I fermented strawberry and watermelon together and the final product, after distillation and proofing down to 80, had a unique character. It tasted like a strawberry jolly rancher at first, then morphed quickly to tasting like the watermelon jolly rancher. The ladies really loved it, but I had to warn them that, because of the proof, it would sneak up on them, lol

A suggestion: When you’re proofing down your spirit, dilute it with the (unfermented) watermelon juice, instead of with plain water. That would make the end product taste more like watermelon.

I do a watermelon brandy every year......a 10 gallon wash but I press the watermelon flesh, add about the same amount of water and add sugar. Obviously to the whole fermentation thing and I run it thru a copper column comes out delicious!!!!

I want to see you guys try to make alcohol out of condiments. Ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, etc. There's a ton of sugars in there but you might have to get 'organic' or something like that so it doesn't have preservatives in it.

In my youth me and my brother used to make watermelon wine with an airlock right in the rind. We would push a 1/2" conduit in one end and pull out the core sample and up end the melon into a bowl to drain for 30-60 minutes. Take the juice that drained and add a 1/2 cup sugar and yeast then pour it back into the shell and add an airlock. When it stopped bubbling it was ready. Chill and serve. Great party favor for 13-16 year olds and nobody knew a thing.

sometimes the old youtube algorithm can be such a kind soul and reccomend you something new and its actually amazing XD funny story to go along side your mother's i grew up in farm where they distilled wine and grew their own honey / bees and as my uncle worked there we could visit as much as we wanted and we always got treated to honey by the workers. We ate so much honey its stupid, and now 30 years later, i really dislike honey, the taste and smell makes me feel sick, and i still believe its because i ate my life's supply of honey back then.-

Their reactions to the watermelon flavor in the higher proof bottle and the 100 proof one reinforces why companies making watermelon candies use peach as the base flavor for watermelon candy. There's almost no sugar there to begin with and removing it just makes it less sweet. The coco joy watermelon juice claims to be 100% watermelon juice so I did wonder if there was any peach shenanigans in it. Claim seems to be substantiated by this experiment. I don't eat watermelon much because it's like eating water. I prefer musk melon (the orange one, the one that everyone called cantalope but is not actually cantalope) if I want to eat a different tasting water.
