@DDA40Xman 5 лет назад
Trading in for a newer vehicle was never a money making proposition so there isn't a true "loss" since there is NEVER a gain (I'm a daily stock trader). It's trading in for the new features like the refreshed engine (see Gail Banks video on why this makes sense), the new camera package, and the interior upgrades. The 2 mpg gain helps offset the cost of hauling a fifth wheel all over the country.

these guys have hard-ons for diesel; That's pretty much all they review. When they do review gas they fail to mention that a diesel is 10K more, fuel is more expensive. its 10K more to register, which is big in some states. There's another review where someone shows that the cost of ownership for a diesel is about 500.00 better than gas per year given the added fuel cost and maintenance of the diesel. with that said a diesel owner would have to keep the truck 18 years to make a diesel a better buy. That wasn't taking into account the added 10K in tax and registration. Long story short Diesels are way more expensive to own. As for the "they hold their value better", that's also a facade....they cost 10K more, therefore they should have a better resale by that 10K bloated price tag.

People don’t understand what kind of person buys this truck. Usually a family of 4 that does a lot of outdoor activities like camping or towing a boat. They want something that looks nice inside on the outside. The basically want a suburban that can tow 18,000lbs

777jones actually, towing a camper with a wife and two kids and all our stuff I’m nearly maxed out on my payload rating for my half ton. And we only have a little 23’ camper. If people want more like a 26-30’ camper (say they want their own separate bedroom space), then an HD truck is the only truck to safely haul those loads.

@@jamesdillaman What's in the bed? I have 4 kids and a dog. We tow a 28' Travel trailer with our Sequoia. 90% of our stuff goes in the trailer. The trailer is about 6000lbs to 6500lbs depending if we take water or not.
@jamesdillaman
@jamesdillaman 5 лет назад
Geoff Moore well my payload rating is around 1200 lbs. Me, the wife and kids, and things in the bed total about 500-600 pounds. My trailer weighs 5500 pounds with a tongue weight of 600 pounds. That makes a total payload of 1100-1200 lbs. maxed out. As my kids get older I’ll either have to carry less stuff, load up the rear of the trailer (which can lead to unstable towing conditions) or upgrade to an HD truck.

Pretty good MPG considering the curb weight. My 2014 short bed crew cab Cummins before mods and a 3.42 rear end was getting about 20-21mpg on the highway at 70-75mph. Once I put a lift kit and 35 inch tires, I lost 2mpgs with dpf/scr system in-tact.
@shitloveaduck
@shitloveaduck 5 лет назад
Nice comment. It stands to reason that the lift and tires mean less fuel economy, even if the tires are larger in diameter. I still hear from friends or strangers in casual conversation that they are surprised fuel economy goes down when customizing the truck like that. You are further proof of the results. Thanks.

Great video, and awesome mileage. I would love to see the MPG degradation vs towing. You guys should think about buying a used travel trailer so you can compare with and without towing a real RV. Your tow simulations are usually using a construction trailer or horse trailer with water tanks, which mimics weight but not the wind resistance you get when tow a big box RV. A 28' used trailer at about 5k lbs unloaded would do it (Keystone Bullet, etc.). RV Trader will show what you can buy locally. A couple years old wouldn't cost all that much. Something to think about. Thanks again, love these videos!
@andyharman3022
@andyharman3022 5 лет назад
I've been thinking somewhat the same thing. They need to do travel trailers to get the effect of aero drag on the large frontal area, and to experience directional instability of crosswinds, and of passing semis. I transport travel trailers for money, and the typical ball hitch that I tow is 8 ft wide x 11 ft high, 27 ft long, 7000 pounds. Fifth Wheels are typically 8.5 ft wide x 12 feet tall, but I tend to get better fuel economy with them than I do ball hitches. Fifth Wheels are also a lot more stable in crosswind conditions.

I wonder if all of these new transmissions are gonna last like say an older 6 speed. Anyone feel the same way because now they're constantly shifting gears instead of staying on one. I feel like the more shifting that happens the more problems are going to have in a long-run for reliability. Something is going to wear out quicker with a constant gear change

One tip for future videos about diesel trucks..... it's either DEF or Diesel Exhaust Fluid... not DEF Fluid. Calling it DEF Fluid is like calling an ATM an ATM Machine. Or a PIN Number (for the card that goes in the ATM) . AWESOME VIDEOS though. I can count on TFL truck for the best truck content.

TFL. Now measure out the rolling distance using the markers on the side of hiway. See if the actual mileage the odometer shows is correct. You had some discrepancies. At the half way fuel stop you said you’d traveled 522 miles and indicated you had 485 to go. That’s 1007 total but truck said 974? Your mid point stop at 522 and 26.982 gallons was 19.35. Your last stop, if you went the additional 485 since to last fill up, which you didn’t tell us the second leg “miles driven”, used 21.974. That’s 22.07. Big discrepancies in those numbers

I’m not a fan based owner, but I went with the Ford F-250 last year and will trade up when the 2020’s hit the lot, I say that to say this, not one single channel on RU-vid covers this when reviewing HD diesels, what has the manufacturer done to improve their EGR and DPF for non commercial consumer use. The Ford is the only manufacturer to allow the owner to perform a static regen. My superduty offers OCR or operator command regen, if I don’t want to drive an extra 30-40 minutes just to clean a stupid exhaust filter I can option to perform a stationary clean while sitting on my couch, now TFL, why don’t you guys cover this feature?
