I want to say thanks to you both GV and Sue. I am housebound and haven't left my house in over 8 years. I used to love looking around cemeteries and graveyards to remember the forgotten but since an accident I've been unable to do so. You take me on walks every day, I listen to everything you say, look at the graves you show us and feel sadness when I see how neglected some are. But I also listen to the birds, see the trees and clouds. It means a lot, thank you ❤
I love watching your videos .I am disabled and hard to get around. I always look to see if I can see any of my family names. Thank you for remembering people have died . Your awesome,I watch your videos from missouri usa
Beautiful place, thank you for sharing it. But so sad the place is badly flooded. I follow you and Sue all the time, and love watching. Love from central Scotland!
So sad to see all the flooding in the crypts and graves. And especially with people still being interred there. It's still a beautiful cemetery even so. Thank you for showing us these beautiful places and gorgeous carvings and craftwork. You just don't see them like that anymore.
Hi GV it's just shocking too see these graves like that when there is bodies in side why is it like that poor people I wouldn't like that if it was one off my family buried in this grave yard it's so sad bless them 🙏💐 thanks anyway GV you really do a great job bless you take care you and sue X X 👍
It is sad to see that all those graves are just being left to fall and sink like that. You would think there would be some sort of "body corporate" to take care of them, but as you said GV, the 2 sides of life, the rich get the good ones and the poor are just left to "fend" for themselves, so to speak. But still a good looking graveyard. Thanks for the tour. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers from a cold, dreary day here in Sydney Australia
You are brave, intelligent, respectful, in your work. Here in the US things are all so much 'newer' by comparison, but also more 'clinical' as it were. Simple burials with coffins seem to be the norm, in our area. You are showing us a different culture's traditions and practicies, and this is much appreciated!
I honestly think you and Sue should invest in a rubber dinghy for situations like this, or even a row boat!! That way, you can float through any flooded cemeteries/graveyards safely and with ease!! 🛶🤔🤔🤣🤣 On a serious note, it's sad to see this graveyard in such a sorry situation!! Churches and local authorities should plan VERY carefully exactly WHERE they situate cemeteries and graveyards to prevent situations like this!! I wonder whether the church/local authority will do SOMETHING to remedy the situation before it gets any worse!! Thanks for sharing this place with us, GV!! XXXX 👍💞🤗💕👏❤
8:03 - 8:26 It seems that our MPs and elites walk all over us in life, as well as in death. Thank you both Sue and GV for your amazing content xx Teresa 🇦🇺♥
Hello GV, Thak you for another wonderful video. So Sad to see a cemetery flooded like that. I hope those graves can get repaired. cannot believe they let it get that bad. Jean Crosby Nashville TN USA
Thanks GV and to Sue Sorry to see some of these crypts And graves flooded But Mother Nature! You can’t control the weather circle But another intriguing and awesome video Hanging out for the next one 👍 Breni 🇦🇺
Has a local authority changed a water course somewhere? It seems strange that the houses near the cemetery are lower ,and must surely be getting water ingress to?
That's just too sad for words.. like something has to happen quickly as that whole area could and will get very nasty and dangerous as it seems to be already.. fantastic video getting it out there Cathal. They have to do something ffs . Another brilliant, fantastic, brilliant and outstanding job sir!
I love watching your video's, getting to see the beautiful land there in Ireland and seeing the very old gravestones and crypts is so interesting... Thank you for sharing these amazing video's. I live in Kentucky USA, born and raised here..... 🩷😀
I recently discovered your channel and I have to say it’s a favourite now. Thank you, both of you, for the respect you show and the interesting back stories about some of the deceased. I enjoyed the story of Oscar Wilde’s sister on another video. Greetings from Sweden.
What a sad state of affairs. I've never seen flooded graves before, but I suppose it must happen more often than not.. Fascinating to see this sad place - may they all rest in some sort of peace there. Thanks for taking us on your adventures GV. Take care 🙂
It is very sad, seeing this graveyard in such a bad state! I have a feeling, that this area has a history of flooding. This graveyard should not have been put in this location. Thank you very much GV and Sue, for another great video. Have a great weekend. 😊
Hello from just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Thanks for showing such beautiful and historic cemeteries. My husband and I love to explore cemeteries. Keep up the fantastic work. ❤
How terrible to see this happening, but honestly there probably isn't much anyone can do to get rid of or prevent that kind of water. The climate is changing and with this we must sadly endure its effects.😢 Thank you sharing, I truly enjoy seeing older cemeteries, especially those I'll never get to see in person.
So sad to see graveyards sitting in water like that. It is so green but that is probably because it gets so much rain. It is almost like a bog with no way to drain it. I hope you have your wellies with you. Thank you for reading the headstones Cathal. ♥️☘️
The fact all new homes and changing the landscape has changed the natural drainage patterns. The graves were once dry and I believe the people need to get a engineer to figure out what it needs to drain around that cement
And this is why l want to be cremated. So sad to see such destruction of graves. Not many would visit. Thank you for being respectful. I am in Australia
This place has been flooded for quite some time for the council and church to decide there needed to be money spent on gravel pathways. therefore they would have known how inundated with water the graves are. such a shame they didn't spend money on better drainage for the whole cemetery. Thanks for this video. Adelaide South Australia
The motto under the Vandeleur family crest reads "Virtus Astra Petet" on Latin. Translated from Latin, it literally means "The power of the stars" Whether it refers to Heaven, om not sure, GV
One very famous churchyard in England is Haworth in West Yorkshire, where the Bronte sisters of literary fame lived at the parsonage with their father Patrick, who was Irish. The churchyard lies between the church and the parsonage, and it drained very poorly. During their lifetimes, the remains of the dead contaminated the drinking water supply for the village and caused the deaths of many people. Thankfully, with better understanding of public health nowadays we avoid using boggy places for burials, but I think flooding may be an issue in a quite lot of country churchyards. An interesting comment about the rich and poor, and actually quite a lot of graves are completely unmarked because even the simplest of headstones were always very expensive.
It is so sad to see the state of this cemetery……..Unfortunately I don’t think they can do anything until all of the water dries up, think I would be illegal to pump them out for obvious reasons. But I would hope they have a plan, God forbid heavy rain come again soon!! Then after all is dried out, maybe they could start some type of restoration of the toppled and collapsing graves. But that take a lot of $$$, so I guess we will have to wait and see. Thanks GV and SS!!!! Love from Long Island NY! 🪬🩷🧿🪦🧿🩷🪬
It seems as time goes by, theres less and less care taken on graves and cemeteries. It really does make me want to be cremated. It just feels so wrong to have peoples final resting place so forgotten.
They need to sort out the drainage and getsome water pumps wrking too if they wippersnipped where they cud at least theyd be trying drainage channels maybe wud help , very sad
@@christenedoering7720 in the USA they now charge you extra for a concrete box that they put your coffin in- this way if there is a flood, your coffin won't pop out of the ground and become a free floating boat.
A bit of a dangerous cemetery you never know when a monument might fall over, or a sink hole open up. I don't know what steps should be taken to remove the water but man, keep safe you to.
Great vids! Question: If there is flooding and an abormally high water table in the graveyard, wouldn't the houses outside the graveyard's perimeter be having the same problem?
Maybe they gave up on repairs due to being unable to completely drain the water? Or maybe as soon as they drain the water returns very swiftly. Either way it’s a darn shame.
Gidday G.V. & Sue from Australia (Straya!). Thanks for your effort, sloshing around this graveyard! Youse shoulda brought your wellies, or maybe you did but it was still too muddy? Thumbs up for you pair, but definitely a thumbs down for the planners & designers of this graveyard & church! What sort of freakin fools would place a church & graveyard near a darn swamp? As far as I thought I knew, churches were always placed on higher ground weren't they? This place is ridiculous. No doubt the church too is, or was, plagued with moss & mold problems, making the parish members sick! I'm just flabbergasted!
That's strange people had to walk over to graves to enter Vandelur's, What if they belonged to people he didn't like, so making people literally walk on his enemies graves? I doubt it. But ya never know.
I can't help but wonder the $$ of these old graveyards. When my grandma got buried there was a fee for the plot (it was prepaid by my grandparents years in advance) but what $$ is incoming if there are no/few burials. How do they pay staff to maintain the place? May be a dumb thing to wonder but I do. Especially when most Irish graveyards seem so tidy. 🌏 G'day from NSW downunder 🙃on this sunny Winter's day
Could be a spring system got diverted and maybe peat is under there holding the water? It's kinda neat actually, maybe some ducks will show up if it spreads into a nice pond. Sometimes ashes to ashes dust to dust can become dust to water. Nature you know. And why are there only 3-4 burials in that huge vault?
