Always keep eyes on the kids around the pool if it is uncovered. Too many pool tragedies every year.

Of course. But as explained many times before, you want to keep the pool covered at all times for many reasons.

No need to. The few times we open the pool, there will always be people (adults) around it. We won't leave it unattended.

@bjornnyland Please find a solution to make the last metre covered. That seems an appalling oversight from the cover manufacturer to leave the most dangerous part open like that. In fact they should be brought to task over it. Perhaps they've accidentally not sent it to you? If someone or some creature goes in there you will not be able to fish them out. You won't fit and moving the cover will take too long and may hurt whoever has gone in. Also the amount of water that will be on top of the cover will still be enough to drown a small child, I'm really worried about it... Oh Bjørn, do listen to the Australian advice... the potential for accidents with your kids or their friends is terrifying. Aesthetics will not matter if you lose a child. I'm sorry to be so stern and serious but it is not something to be complaisant over. When they are old enough and can swim strongly then maybe you can take down the fence to improve the looks but if you're likely to party out there the safety of adults is pretty important too. 🙏
@speedymini998
@speedymini998 3 месяца назад
Another Australian here, get a safety fence installed. Too many children drowned before they made it mandatory, in Australia filling the pool before the fence has been installed is illegal. I’m surprised that the Norwegian regulations are so lax.

Have a pool here in Australia. Fun for a year or so. If you calculate how much time & money you put into maintaining & cleaning it, then divide that by how often you swim, it makes you realise that it's basically an expensive water feature! Not worth it in my experience. Nevertheless, happy swimming!

Pool owner from Finland here. If you put the pool heater to heat straight to 27 degrees there is a risk of that the heat pump will freez and then you need to wait untill all the ice have melted, it is recomended to encrease the temperature in steps so first to like 10-15 then 15-20 and last 20-27. And also the pool robot do not like water temperatures under 15 degrees, it can brake or it wont work at all so recomended to wait until water is around 18 degrees at least.

Next challenges: How waterproof are electric cars? How to escape drowning vehicles? Can EVs drive under water? Testing floating cars. Testing electric boats. … Nice pool. Yes make it save.
@johnair1

On the Sidenote; In the event that a vehicle becomes submerged, it is of the utmost importance to lower the windows as soon as possible. This should be done within the first 30 to 60 seconds, as the electronic system may otherwise shut down. Attempting to open the doors is inadvisable, as the water pressure is likely to be excessive. Instead, opening the windows can literally save lives. It is also advisable not to call emergency services immediately, but rather to focus on exiting the vehicle as quickly as possible and then standing on the roof.

As a future project it would be nice to integrate the pool heater to the heating/warming of the house somehow. I think heating up the pool 1 degree uses around 50 kWh or so. The idea would be to use the pool as a heat tank (battery) in winter and heat it up during low electricity cost time and use that heat to heat up the house when needed, and in summer for cooling the house the other way around. The algorithm for handling this would have to include both electricity costs and weather forecast, I believe...

Is there an intake/drain at the bottom of the pool? I use a 55 cm microfiber pre-washer (actually intended for window washing) connected to a telescopic pole to clean the bottom, stairs and sides. Then you get rid of all sand and similar debris. I used a pool bruch exactly like the one I saw you had before, but it didn't work well. With the pre-washer it goes 3 times as fast, and much better results. The robot will not be able to clean everything.

20:18 so the lamellas are insulating a little bit to prevent cooling at night, but that means that the absorption from the sun is also a little bit slowed. Would it be possible (when the sun is fully shining on the whole pool) to run a small lawn-sprinkler with the pool water (not fresh water) that the droplets collect heat from the top side of the lamellas and then it flows into the pool through the lamellas? Then maybe it heats faster? - Or does this increase the evaporation and it unintentionally cools down? Would be fun to experiment how much difference it makes (how much more heat, how much evaporation etc).

Hi Bjorn! Some advice about heat pumps : I had mine fixed and the repair guy told me the worst thing for a heat pump is to crank it up. It's better to bring the temperature up in increments to prevent premature wear on the components. I though it made sense so I wanted to share it with you. When I start my pool in spring I let the sun heat up the water and in the evening I match the temperature on the heat pump. This way there's a lot less stress on the parts. Enjoy your new pool!
@bjornnyland
@bjornnyland 3 месяца назад
Don't worry. We didn't "crank up" the heat pump. That's not how it works. Even if you set the temperature high, it won't run it at higher load.

A trick to get a little extra free heat is to make a box over the pool pump. I put one in styrofoam over mine, and you raise the temperature in the pool by around 1 degree (after 4-5 days) if the pump runs 8 hours a day. In the box it was about 40-45c degrees, when it was 15c degrees outside, and part of the heat energy from the engine is thus transferred to the water.
