We Fix an MGB Fuel Pump Wiring

This MG came in unable to start. The telltale clicking sound was missing, and the owner correctly assumed that the fuel pump wasn't doing its job. Fuel pumps in these cars can be a few hundred dollars for an original style SU, so it's worth investigating the cause. In this case, there was a wire that had broken off during a separate repair.
The wire for the fuel pump in this car comes straight off the ignition switch, and does not have a fuse. Left uninsulated, a detached wire like this could easily have started a fire (even while not starting the engine)! Fortunately, it was a straightforward repair that only took an hour or two including diagnosing, repairing, and reassembling everything.

I do. There's a Healey 3000 sitting in storage that desperately needs to come all the way apart (as in holes in the frame, so the whole car will end up getting gutted and redone). In recent times it's been more maintenance than anything since we've got a 2-year-old that really wants to help... so probably best to keep him farther away from the welder and paint fumes.

My first car was a BL mini 850-converted to a 1275, what a powerhouse, i currently have a gt6,tr7- great videos, in the process of converting to electric fuel pump for the tr7, got tired of repriming the machanical pump after a short sit down, Im going to use the power from the 3-prong oil pressure switch, is that a good idea?

Short answer, I'd suggest power from a relay with a cutoff switch. You don't want to disable the oil pressure switch by accident.

I don't hear that clock- did it have an accident with a thrown hammer?! :D If we were in the same state, I'd be one of your clients. The free services through my company for financial planning aren't great :(

That's probably down to a new microphone. It does a better job just picking up sounds that are close. As for financial planning, I've been doing that for longer, and at this point I can do all 50 states depending on what's needed, so don't let that stop you unless you have a preference to meet in person. Also, don't let the website fool you. It's designed to get Google hits--I'm not area restricted.

Congrats on the adoption. Great video, good information as always. I'm waiting on new spark plug wires as some rodent ate two. Grrrrrr. While waiting I installed today a 123Tune+ dizzy. If you have the advance curves and MAP curves for 72 XJ6 with Zenith Stromberg carbs, do share. Ha Ha. Bluetooth dizzy, who would have thought. Cheers.

I don't off hand, but the shop manual will. Look for a chart in the ignition section that details how many degrees advance the distributor should have at a given rpm. There may even be a free pdf to download (though not sure it's an official copy if that does exist)
