The southern edge of Africa is like another planet - wow! Ali and I spend the day exploring and hanging out with 3,000 penguins at boulders beach before hiking to the edge of the continent at Cape Point. The whole day was like a dream! Enjoy 😊

Those "rodents" are called dassies - in English: rock hyraxes. Their closest relatives are said to be the elephant.

Thanks for such a great and positive review of my hometown Cape Town. Just a correction. The Indian and Atlantic(not Pacific) oceans does meet but that is about 220 km east of Cape Town at the southernmost tip of Africa at Agulhas.

The flowers and plants, beside the many animals, makes this corner of South Africa one of the five, biggest flower kingdoms in the world. Even NASA is studying it from satellite footage, to gauge its health.

As others have mentioned, the Indian and Atlantic do not meet at Cape Point, with their "meeting point" declared as Cape Agulhas. As the names of the oceans are human inventions, it's also not as if two different bodies of water meet - from a planet-point of view, it's all just water. You can also not see them meeting - that's something people are told, and once told, then they "see" it. That said, occasionally you can see a line: from the east down the east coast runs the Agulhas current (a warm current), while from the west and up along the west coast runs the Benguela (a cold current). These two currents mix somewhere south of Cape Town towards Agulhas (these are currents - they shift around), but, if conditions are right, it is possible to see these two currents meeting - but, that line can shift all over the place. Generally they just mingle, without any discernible meeting line or point. What can result with these two currents though, especially in summer, is that warm water from the Agulhas gets trapped in False Bay, while the wind wells up the already cold Benguela current on the western side - resulting in water that's 10 degrees celsius there, while False Bay sits at 20 degrees or more!

I love our penguins .... Drive +-90mins from Cape Town to BETTY's BAY .. Stony Point Reserve - for a less crowded / less "commercial" encounter with the largest breeding colony of 'Jackass' penguins ... (But they have to be protected ... especially in breeding time ...) It's a fabulous scenic drive once you get to Gordons Bay .. and then to Betty's Bay. ... that also has an indigenous Botanic Garden, some great beaches etc ...

Cape Point isn't the southern most point of Africa, but instead the southeast point of the Cape Peninsula. L'Agulhas is where you'll find the two oceans meet.

The ocean currents are really intriguing at Cape Point, but, indeed, finding the sea route to India round Cape Point gave it the name The Cape of Good Hope; the first time the Portugese sailed round it was during a wind storm, so "The Cape of Storms" was its original, official name. The ship's crew insisted on returning home after they had found land again next to what is now Mossel Bay, and met with the locals, having spend several days "adrift" in the Southern Ocean. In 1988 South Africa marked 500 years since that very first landing.

I am glad you enjoyed our great city. Hopefully, you will visit again, and thanks for the awesome review. The Atlantic and Indian oceans meet at Cape Agulhas, which is the Southern most point of the African continent. It is about 200km southeast of Cape Town. Don't worry, many people get it wrong.

I know the Indian Ocean meets the Pacific way east closer to Australia however around South Africa the Indian Ocean meets the South Atlantic Ocean.

Sorry guys, but the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet at Cape Agulhas, which is about 2.5 hours further south. The fluffy rodents seen at Boulders are called daisies, their closest relative is, believe it or not . . . the elephant!

We call them "Dassies". Rock Hyrax in English. The dassie is considered to be the closest living relative of the largest land mammal, the African elephant. Oh, the Indian ocean never meets the Pacific here in the Cape, it meets the Atlantic.

The Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic at Cape Agulhas, NOT at Cape Point.

So glad you love our country and city. Just want to correct you, where Atlantic and Indian ocean meet is in Cape Agulhas. It’s quite a bit from there. I always love seeing people’s vlogs on our home province. ♥️

I'd definitely say that the waters of False Bay, and between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas, is a mixture of the Indian and Atlantic. The constant fluctuations of temperatures throughout the year being around 14-23 degrees C are dependent on the mix of the two waters. Officially, Cape Agulhas is where they meet.

The Indian ocean meets the Pacific?! Come on. This is basic geography. Can 't believe tourists are still told this nonsense. Where did you read this. Cape Point is where two curents meet: cold Benguela and warm Mosambique cuurents not the oceans.
@tylerdurden3722
@tylerdurden3722 3 месяца назад
They should just officially change the border of the two oceans to cape point, because that's where you can physically see two different types of waters forming a kind of border. On some days that divide in the ocean is very pronounced and a beautiful thing to witness. At Cape Agulhas there's nothing there except a tiny stone plaque. Hence why tourists go to Cape Point and not so much Agulhas.

I hope you weren't breaking the law by flying your drone in a restricted area??? Flying drones in all national parks are restricted....
