"Without knowing what we were getting into, we hit the road" - as it should be! You defined "Adventure" perfectly! Pat on the back and a thumbs up! Cheers!
When most people hear - New York -, they think of New York City. But many places upstate are really beautiful. I spent time decades ago, driving through the state to reach Lake George. Great time.
When I was 12-13, My parents and I took a trip by auto to Upstate New York from New Jersey. While there, I had the pleasure of swimming in Lake Erie and Ontario. We came back through the finger lakes area and OMG! it was B-E-A utiful!
That's what I was thinking that there would be lots of insects out there at this time of year hopefully you and Lefty we're not bitten too much Y'all take care enjoy it and be safe and will see you soon
I just found this video. Yes the FLNF is not very well known. I have camped a lot there since 2001. You did not mention Burnt Hill road which is probably one of the roads the ranger has mentioned. I tent car camp with my dog so some of the places you cant stay at i can. If you had wanted to pay to camp the Blueberry Patch campground and the Backbone horse camp are nice. The horsecamp has nice grassy open areas that are for solrar
An ambulance for traveling is becoming my vehicle of choice. Are there any downsides to having an ambulance over other rigs? If my choice would be Lefty or an ambulance I would pick Lefty, he's a sweetie. And thanks for your lowkey but informative vlogs.
Hi Cherel - thank you, and thank you for watching and for commenting. I did a video a few months ago that was the pros and cons of an ambulance that you should check out. I love it and it's just right for Lefty and me right now. And if I had to choose... Lefty all the way!
You could start with the Moose River Plains area, well over 100 sites accessible by most vehicles, also Horseshoe lake has a smaller number of free sites, Powley Piseco road has a dozen or so to name a few. There are quite a few dirt roads with free camping in the Adirondacks. @@Abeaness
You're right Gail - this area was BAD with insects and yes, Lefty came back with a tick on him twice. I saw them easily on his back (they were big) and got them off of him before they had bit. Not great at this time of year there...
This is good to know, I'm hoping to have an enclosed trailer partially built out when I visit my daughter up in that area. I've been all over that area, just never camped anywhere but the Adirondacks (field time at Drum doesn't count as camping, no matter what the recruiter tells you lol). On a side note, back when they were about to open the Walmart Supercenter in Watkins Glen, I got banned from the store for life. I was doing tile work, and we got called back to do a repair (it's always a plumber or electrician) in one of the front bathrooms. They had a fire alarm go off right as we finished mixing the thin-set, and that's a time sensitive thing. So I popped my head out the door, saw it was just a fire drill, and we went back to work. One of the managers saw me, and came in with a whole lotta attitude. She wouldn't accept that we weren't Walmart employees, and not subject to their training requirements, so she had one of the local cops that was there for AP training write us out a trespass complaint. We called the foreman, he laughed, said we were paid up for the day and he was going to pay us double, and charge them, and then triple charge them when they sent the next crew down. Good times.
Ah... those and grass snakes are what we've seen and Lefty has dispatched 2 grass snakes back at out house. But... I don't want him to hunt snakes anymore cause they may win out west.
