At a monkey reserve in Costa Rica, the guide let us feed the monkeys bananas and sugar-free cookies. He used to let tourists feed the monkeys regular cookies but they would get cavities and that would be a problem since there's no monkey dentist. So the monkeys suffered a lot of pain. They also liked lemons because they knew that rubbing lemon pulp on their skin kept mosquitos from giving them monkey bites. The males were in particular eager to get lemons because the females would trade sex for lemons. That's why it's called the world's oldest business- or monkey business!

And the become aggressive as well due to stiff competition from other monkeys. That's why they snatch any items from the visitors thinking it is something that can be eaten or contain any food. They become so nasty by pulling the hair, bags, clothing of the guests even if they're unprovoked.

Very cool place. If you have time check out Cebu Safari. There are lots of animals and a section of flowers and plants. There is a lot of walking there but it is worth the trip. I spent a whole afternoon there and there are places to eat and get drinks along the way.

Cebu Safari is the biggest and only world-class safari and botanical garden in the Philippines where animals from all over the world enjoy happiness (most probably) because they have huge spaces to roam around freely in lush tropical vegetation. The 170-hectare safari is part of a huge park that spans across 300 hectares which also includes an adventure park and resorts on top of the mountain. It is so huge that they use trams to transport guests if they need to skip one or more attractions to get to another attraction. Contiguous to the safari and adventure park further west are the huge cattle ranch where hundreds of white cows roam freely over rolling hills and the Lapus-lapus cave whose entrance is big enough for regular human to get into but the subterranean labyrinth is quite cavernous and, in itself, another tourist attraction on guided tours.

Fantastic! Gonna go monkey hopping on Samal next time I'm up. Wife says they are there.
@lionhearted1969
@lionhearted1969 2 года назад
Those in Samal is not properly managed. They allow tourists to tease the monkeys which can be very nasty when provoked. I saw one video where one man told another guests to tease them and sure enough the monkey slapped the hands. Monkeys can be very aggressive when provoked. This one in Oslob is properly managed. Only the caretakers can produce the food to feed the monkey as you can see in this video. The caretakers hand the food to the guests for feeding. They have rules and guidelines for visitors to observe when interacting with the monkeys and one of them is not to tease and provoke the monkeys. Guests are not allowed to bring food for the monkeys as monkeys are smart animals and have great memory. That's the reason why macaque monkeys in other countries or in other places in the Philippines turn nasty upon seeing visitors because they believe they bring something for them to eat. Due to competition from other monkeys they become aggressive that they learn how to snatch food, bags, hats and other items from the visitors. They even bite or pull their arms, hair and clothing.

Looks like "monkey business". You two appear to really hit it off with the monkeys. Hmmmmm, here is a business idea for when you decide your wanderlust days are over and want to settle down; buy some of those monkeys, take them back to Boracay and open up a monkey ranch for the tourists and charge admission.

The freaking monkeys I saw in Zambales when we go on a trip in Subic stole my fckin hat and on then my sun glass was stolen on the 2nd time I went there around 3 years after the first one. Hahahaha Good thing the Monkeys there aren't as mean haha but I guess that's the difference between a wild monkey vs a monkey that's used to humans.
@lionhearted1969
@lionhearted1969 2 года назад
It's because monkeys in Zambales are not properly managed. These ones in Oslob are treated well and trained by caretakers. Guests are not allowed to bring food for the monkeys so that they won't develop aggressive behavior upon seeing guests around. Guests are not allowed to tease or provoke the monkeys as indicated on a huge signage. Food (usually ripe bananas cut into smaller portions) can only come from the caretaker themselves to let the monkeys know that guests are not the source of their food. That way, monkeys learn how to behave well when interacting with guests.
@paulbandong8162
@paulbandong8162 2 года назад
@@lionhearted1969 Yeah and on top of that the monkeys that I've seen in Zambales are wild monkeys on the road.
@lionhearted1969
@lionhearted1969 2 года назад
@@paulbandong8162 Oslob monkeys are also wild. The main road simply cuts through their habitat that's why they're easily seen in their by motorists.
