After suspending our search for a house over the summer, we finally found the right one for us at the end of the high season. Timing was not ideal, but we had to go for it:)!
We had a lot of specifications for this house, since we are looking at it as a long term investment, and this one hit almost all of them! Here are a few...a larger lot with a nice back yard, 4 bedrooms, an upstairs and basement, AC and central heat, gas, window looking into back yard, large garage and large flat driveway, plus not on a busy street.
Some of the specific things we were looking for related to our financial independent goals were as follows: 1) In a price range we could make 2 payments/month on, to pay it off in 5-10 years 2) No HOA fee, this is important if you don’t want additional monthly payments 3)potential for STR (short term rental) income 4)many areas to make DIY improvements to increase value 5)desirable location for our own convenience and to reduce driving, plus for resale.
The whole place needs updating, but we narrowed down 3 top areas to start with before we move in; 1)removing a wall that obstructs the open area between the kitchen, living room and dining room, 2)new paint and 3)new floors.
