Oh wow - I remember in I think 1998 in the UK this game was featured on a bus tour for the Playstation - I got to go but the Playstation that was running this game was constantly being hogged. Then I sort of forgot about it and never found a copy once I eventually got over my sega fangirling to get a PSOne. I remember the promo art looked really cool tho

While I couldn't find a direct connection between T'ai Fu & Kung Fu Panda, several people who worked on this game would later work on some of Activision's tie-in Kung Fu Panda games. This was also an early voice acting role for John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time, Gears of War), he played the title character. He unsurprisingly later played several Kung Fu Panda characters.

Notice how the characters, including Tai itself, were already pretty final. That shows clearly where their priority was, and this makes sense in the context of being a game from an animation company! Thanks for the video!

T'ai Fu always felt like it was just a couple of gameplay mechanics away from greatness. Weird to think it could have been even more janky without that final polish.

It seems like they wanted a bit more from it, but just couldn't do it due to constraints. Kinda unfortunate. Overall I liked it, even though I tend to get a bit desensitized when playing beat-em-ups.
