Thank you! I live in this magical town of Rumford, ME. Your portrayal is exactly the way it is here! Throughout my 60 year old life, I've done my share of traveling, but have always looked forward to coming home! The four seasons are amazing in this little town as it allows for swimming in rivers and lakes anywhere you turn in the summer, skiing at our own Black Mountain ski area in the winter, and in the spring and fall enjoying incredible hiking with mountains galore or going to quarries and chisel for renowned gems and minerals! One can always go blueberry picking or take a quick drive to enjoy the ocean... It is certainly the "little things" that make your life complete! So thankful that you found Rumford, Maine amidst your grand travels! Oh, and YES! The apple crisp at our information booth is simply... AMAZING! I have known the owner for years! God Bless you, and I truly hope that you come again to my little hometown! 🙏

My parents grew up in Rumford/Mexico ME. I few up spending summers there with family! I love it there. Head up to Mexico, then to Height of the Land and Rangeley… the hidden gem of Mai e!

I worked in the paper mill in Rumford for several years and restoring classic and antique cars was a very popular hobby with the guys in the mill. The only down side of Rumford is the stink from the kraft mill, but that is the "smell of money" and once you are there for a few hours you get used to it.

Oh my, I’m so pleased you found and loved Rumford. I do have to smile because I’m positive if you asked anyone from Maine to list the 50 - 100 top most beautiful towns in Maine, Rumford would not be close. It just makes me appreciate my beautiful state even more to see it through the eyes of visitors. Please come back. ❤️

My hometown...and much of my family still resides in Rumford. I spent a lot of days fishing in that large pool below the falls. Rumford use to "buzz". That said, it's still a wonderful town to visit and to live in.

I am glad you loved my state! I was surprised when i saw the title because Rumford is not really known as a tourist destination - the next time you journey to Maine please travel a little further north and you will find even more beauty with waterfalls, mountains (and yes- bars too 😉)

Here's my go to apple crisp recipe. As you know serve with ice cream or whipped cream. I hope you enjoy! Try to visit the Height of Land, you are very close to it. Apple Crisp 1/2 cup rolled oats 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup all purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional) 1/4 cup butter 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced ( 6 cups) 2 tablespoons sugar Optional additions ( all, one, or none ) 1/2 cup raisins 1/2 cup of pecans 1/2 cup dried cranberries For topping, in a medium mixing bowl stir together rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter till mixture resembles, coarse crumbs. Stir in chopped pecans ( if using). If using raisins and cranberries, in a small mixing bowl pour enough boiling water over the raisins and cranberries to cover. Let stand for 5 minutes, then drain. For filling, in large mixing bowl combine drained raisins, cranberries, sliced apples, and sugar, then gently toss till combined. Transfer the filling to an ungreased 9x9x2 inch baking pan. Sprinkle the topping on the filling. Bake in a 375degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes or till the apples are tender and the topping is golden. Serve warm. Makes six servings.

Sorry I keep making comments that is the memorial bridge that was the 1st bridge built to connect the island to the rest of the community and that is the paper mill which has changed hands a number of time and I believe now it's new dragon and unfortunately it's owned by the Chinese so I won't say anything else If you would have gone down canal street where they used to have the logs going into the mill I had a restaurant there I believe it now is a cannabis growing spot and also Just wanted to give you guys another shout out because you really did capture the beauty I wish you could have seen the rest of the area where we have a ski area and the rivers that we grew up swimming in as kids hope you come back someday I think you'd love this summer and the Spring.

Before you ate it, you were like ... i never had an Apple Crisp...I'm saying well you are going to love it..and you did! Yum...PS THAT LAKE/river might not have been as cold as Jason thought.....try the Ocean in Maine..you feet will feel like they are being stabbed...to colddddddd and im from Mass. i can handle Maine ocean water in the summer only.

Lol cool video. This is my home town born and raised lived there my whole life. Moved few years after graduation. The small town is beautiful place to visit. Not much for way of living anymore, if you dont have a job at the mill you don't really have a job or money. Glad you guys got to enjoy what I did for 22 plus years.

Your video is awesome. I was born and raised in Rumford and I love that you loved it so much. I live about 33 miles away now, but go there often to see other family/friends. You actually were there past the peak foliage season... even a week sooner and it would have been even more vibrant. Safe travels!

Author: Maureen Shaw Recipe type: Dessert Cuisine: American Serves: 6 Ingredients Apple Filling 6-8 tart apples, peeled and thickly sliced 1 tablespoon lemon juice ½ teaspoon cinnamon ¼ (scant) teaspoon ground cloves ½ cup sugar 1 tablespoon plain / all-purpose flour Topping 6 tablespoons cold butter cut into cubes ¾ cup plain flour 6 tablespoons packed brown sugar ¼ cup oats Instructions Preheat oven 180C/350F Apple Filling Place apples in a large bowl and sprinkle with lemon juice.. toss to coat. Mix sugar, flour and spices and add to apples. Toss to coat. Place apples in a baking dish and cover with topping. Topping In a food processor or use a fork, two knives or a pastry cutter, add the flour, sugar and butter. Process until it begins to come together. Place in a bowl and mix in the oats. Mixture will be crumbly. Put the topping over the apples and bake for 45 minutes until lightly browned and bubbling. Serve with cream or ice cream (or both if you're feeling naughty)

I lived in Rumford for 8 months back in 2000 in college as a co-op at the paper mill. I enjoyed it very much and met some great people. There are so many beautiful places to go in the area and towns to visit. I hope I can make it back some day. Thank you for the nostalgia trip!

Haha I grew up in Rumford I use to go sit by the falls a lot we could be so much more then we are now at one time maybe one of two of the most important towns in New England because of the Oxford paper mill my grandfather and dad worked there for years that falls you saw is the second biggest drop falls east of the Mississippi River next to Niagara falls and was seen by Thomas Edisonwho was the one along with hugh Chisholm found the Rumford electric company also William taff stayed their in Rumford on a visit in 1918 ,I wish the falls was flowing that day its spectacular and of course we always took it for granted...thankyou for loving my home I live in Virginia now in Amherst and a sister in Appomattox but many family and friends still there and I hope to see Rumford make a nice recovery back to her glory days we have beautiful ski area that host the world championship cross country event few years back and we have 4 Olympic team members we have a couple men that played in the NFL we have mountains,and trails for cross country for snowmobiling and atv in the summer we have rivers you can swim in with many funny named swimming holes and lakes along with great fishing and boating and we have a wonderful hospital..for a small town we had it good back then and it is home and I miss her the downtown is very historic all of those buildings are very old the 2 that were in back of you were actually made identical and if you turned them around they would go back-to-back I've been in that clock tower which not many people have but the architecture is stunning on some of the buildings thanks guys for loving it haha btw apple crisp is very easy to make and yes yummy hope ya had a Whoopie pie as well. more thing those signs that you read I used to have a restaurant over on exchange and canal street a sports bar-and-grill I was a member of the business association and we paid to have those signs made at the top of falls hill and down by the baseball field and downtown I like to Pat myself on the back a little bit so glad you found us come back in the summer you'll be amazed.

Rumford is one of those hidden gems in this state of ours! We have four season recreation and so much beauty all around us! It is jaw dropping beautiful here. For the people that have stayed here for their entire lives they don’t always see it but as our community’s biggest online entity, River Valley Voice! I am here to remind us all that WE LIVE HERE! Rumford is filled with so much beauty in the architecture, the mountains, the falls and the trail systems and in the sense of community that you only get in small town Maine! Acadia and carabasset valley are 2 must see destinations.... This is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to beauty in this state. Btw the antique cars are probably meeting up for a roadshow as that is a pretty popular past time up here!!

I think you have taken me to God's country. The backdrop of the Autumn leaves while you were eating was absolutely amazing. We do everything with Pumpkins here. We bake them or roast them for a delicious dinner. Pumpkin Scones are amazing as is Pumpkin Soup. Pumpkin Pie is also wonderful and some like Pumpkin ice cream but not me. Thank you so much for sharing this trip with us.

Great video! Thank you! I visted Maine in Fall 2018, and I stumbled upon Rumford. Such a lovely quaint town. Rumford Falls is breathtaking! I LOVE Maine, and look forward to my next trip there in Summer 2023!

Love to see a video of my hometown but you folks didn't show the big falls. 😢 the falls you saw on the concrete bridge are not part of the named "rumford falls" the big waterfall is the original. It may not have been flowing while you were there. Glad you enjoyed our tiny town. Also, that bridge is named memorial bridge I believe. The green one is Morse bridge. ❤

Great video guys! Looks like a beautiful little Maine town. And yeah Paul Bunyan is from Maine I forgot! 😆 your Cheesesteak didn't look that great to me. The best cheesesteak in the U.S. is in Philadelphia. "Center City" to be exact. That's where all the locals go for their Philly cheesesteaks. And I can see why!!! A lot of it I think is their homemade hoagie rolls. I don't know what it is about them they're not too soft they're not too hard a little sweet but not really. I've just never had a sub roll taste like that in my life. And the insides are better than any other cheese steak I've ever had too. When I lived in Ocean Springs MS. They had a place that claim to have been authentic Philadelphia cheesesteaks. I'm here to tell you now they were not. I truly think it's in the sub roll.lol ...Only had one once when I lived in Baltimore. Took my stepson to Philly for the day educational experience toured a couple museums.. And of course we had to get a couple original Philly cheesesteaks!💗

Too funny, Rumford? Rumford used to be a Mill Town, and was often made fun of because of the horrible smell of the Mill as you entered the town. Hauled many cords of Pulp Wood to Rumford. "Maine, The Way Life Should Be"
