I can't tell if it's his camera angle or camera movement.. but yeah, I see it.. walking in and out.. end play or pulley got bent when the belt shredded.. if it was pulley it would be more obvious I would think.. $50K is enough to scare me into a new pump, pulley, belt, fresh bearings and hell yes.. a dial indicator to check runout lol.. Nope.. lets throw a couple washers on it and eyeball it.. Jesus.. Jordie needs a new tool set.. Amen..

What usually happens when a rod bearing spins is you break a rod and punch a hole in the block. Past experience unfortunately twice. You guys did the right thing unless you have someone giving you motors I would never throw another belt on it and keep running it. You all take care and stay safe. Good luck this weekend.

Yessir same uh that was a very expensive dang it for me too. Started loosing oil pressure in the turns with the standard pan style and the pore 406 didn't stand a chance. Main got hot rod spun and two wholes appeared. In two laps of split seconds oil loss. I agree pull that motor

Install a low oil pressure ignition cutoff switch that will shut down your engine automatically when the oil pressure drops below a safe pressure.

Not a good Idea in a RACE it LEADS TO WRECKS cuz the engine shuts down and the driver didnt know it was coming

@@HOTRODMONZA That happens anyway, such as when the driveshaft breaks, the engine blows, the ignition box quits etc. Why not save your $50,000 engine by shutting it off a few seconds earlier?

That wouldn’t work especially with a Peterson pump. They don’t have much oil pressure at idle while driving though the pits it would shut off all the time. That’s why you see the dummy light flashing a lot when they are driving through the pits. You can turn up the pump but then when your at 9,000 rpm the oil filter element can’t take it. Peterson has a different spring that you can change in the pump that helps this but your still on the limit on both ends of the spectrum Bottom line is if the belt breaks send it back like they did. How this stuff works it basically shuts off after a few seconds anyway because the fuel pump runs off the back of the oil pump. They don’t run long without fuel pressure.

The coated bearings are definitely a reason that you didnt have more damage, just another layer of protection even if it is very little, but at 8500 every bit helps

When changing a motor use a countersunk bolt to hold bell housing and midplate together that way its always lined up! Could make life easier

Go to the user manual for the pump assembly. Guaranteed they have instructions/how to for pump alignment and belt tension. My head spins when I hear the "I guess it's right" comments. $50,000 motor...yea...I guess it's right.

sure does, check out 13:14 when its cranking. They need to check the run out on the pump shaft.

@@xtr3m3fLx yup, just that .020 can mess stuff up!! I’d be checking the runout on the shaft of the pump, the pulley, and the runout on the flywheel even!! I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw it!

Maybe it was starved longer than it looked, but, that was an eye opener about how fast you hurt an engine without oil pressure…. I’m SURE a standard tuneV8 would not have worn that oil barrieroff that fast…

Looks good boys. We had a problem back in the day. We had oil pressure but we kept spinning bearings after 2 new cranks we figured out what happened when we had the motor cleaned a freshen up on a small block chevy there is a Diverter plug in the block were the rear main cap goes it looks like a tiny freeze out plug it was sending oil straight up to the oil Gauge an not sending oil to the crank bearings what a pain in the ass. You guys should check the alignment out of the chassis with a good straight edge before you put it in the car. You can't take any chances hoping that it's close enough. Check, check and check again engines are expensive and losing races is not fun or profitable. Good luck this weekend.

I had an issue one time with oil pump. High RPM the oil pump was locking up. Just a thought.

Rods nor the crankshaft "sit in oil" on dry sump oil systems. 602s and 604s do. They're wet sump. And pin the bellhousing to the mid plate for goodness sake!!

Check the belt pulleys close for rock damage. Small rocks can cause belt damage.

Looks like you could tighten that belt a little more, when you get in high rpm's that belt will stretch a little or balloon from the rpm's.

normally you know ur belt is tighten enough if u can turn the belt half away aroud, if u can completely flip the belt its to lose if u cant turn the belt at all its to tight

On my modified after i have the motor and bellhousing bolted together in the car i drill 2 holes at the top and bolt thr bellhousing to the midplate so when i pull motors its hold the bellhousing and transmission without anyone under the car

IF THAT BEARING is sitting in OIL --- you've got major PROBLEMS!!!! Key give-a-way >>>> DRY SUMP!!! If the pump is working correctly, the pan will have very little oil in it and actually creating a vacuum inside the motor (using a vacuum modulator allows Hg to be set!) The motorplate thickness (change) may be a thing for the belt alignment - maybe could use another shim down at the flywheel pump drive. Proper tension is essential for belt life. Camera view while running was nice but also would have been nice to see the belt and the rev. Outside all that ------------ > Let's Gooooooooooooo! Be Safe

If you won't to make sur 15:06 e the 2 gears are aligned I always used a 2' Starrett blade from a the Starrett combination set,or anything that is true flat and straight.🏁🇺🇸ML33MI.

get ya a lift it will make more room in ur shop u can lift one and put one under it the rod bearings dont sit in the oi it starts at the pump then threw the mains and rod caps up to ur cam and finally rockers

I see Clements uses Don Olson oil pans. I knew Dan back in the sprint car days running out of Fresno CA. That guy has done it all in drag racing both boats and NHRA. His products are second to none. We sure had fun back in those days.

I wonder why this all of a sudden became an issue..... to me, it looks like the front of the belt is tighter then the back of the belt.... I'm wondering if that pump has a bad bushing or or trust bearing going bad in it. Good luck guys.

Back in the day (1980's) when I built sprint and late model engines, I pinned my rod bearings with brass pins. Never I mean never spun a bearing after that. They physically cannot spin at that point.

Scared me for a second.. I got an Uncle Tim in Ohio hahahaha.. thought I was gonna get to go for a ride lol.. I'd take another look at that oil pump again fellas.. If it's misaligned to such degree that you gotta add shims.. the housing might be bad.. or the internal shaft bearings may be shot.. You know the vibration that happened when it broke was horrific hammering on those pump bearings.. looks like you got end play or runout.. can't tell from the video movement.. but $50K is enough to scare me too.. so.. Prayer goin up.. $50K is a lot of sweat and blood where I come from.. just sayin..

Maybe a cover over the belt cause u drive dirt. A stone or mud could get wedge in there and do whatever.

it is not setting in oil if so the motor would loss hp from crank wash the crank doss not set in oil IT HAS OIL PUMPED IN IT ...... ' better look at the pump make shore it don't have a hard spot in it ' pump get a hot spot and stops turning and kills the belt ' LOOK AT THE PUMP BE SAFE
