The tunnel you thought was a sewer tunnel is an escape tunnel. It's exactly the same as a Victorian manner in Ireland. My family used to own that burnt down in the Victorian times. We had to crawl through it when we were kids, and it would pop out in a Bush right next to the sea

Maybe I' just morbid, but the room near the tower looked like a crematorium, & did the underground entry area looked like a mausoleum?

That estate was incredible! I can’t believe it’s being left to decay. It reminds me of a fort to protect the people in battle. I absolutely love the land.
@PieterBreda
The red racks and oven were for drying textiles. You hung them wet and they dried and decreased. That was not a crematorium😊

Amazon cellar that would have been a massive house it's a shame there leaving the tower and farm house to fall apart

Under ground the red draws you showed there were linen and clothes driers, you would pull them out like a filing cabinet.

Thank you for the great explore! The beams in the attic rooms plus the arching cellar ceiling of the first building you explored looked Tudor to me, so approx 400-450 yo, with later tiles on the roof. The cellar of the building with the laundry, the folly, the kitchen garden, escape tunnel and cold cellar looked younger, maybe 150-300 yo. I would say the buildings reflected the changing fortunes and tastes of the family/ies that owned the property. They expanded and modernised when they felt financially and politically secure, and pulled in their horns when not. That property has seen enormous changes. If the first building was Tudor (say Elizabethan) then it's also been through the Stuarts (including the Civil War, and the plague), the Georgian period (including the Napoleonic Wars and the American War of Independence, which could cause massive loss of finance if they had invested abroad), the Victorian era, the Edwardian era and the Modern era (including 2 World Wars, the Korean War, etc. If the owning family had more than 1 son then the second was likely to have joined the army or navy of the time, and the 3rd the church). The 1st World War caused massive loss of life due to the men of whole villages and landed families volunteering together and being wiped out by the new armaments (including anti-personnel and mustard gas), which meant that after the war there were huge gaps in the staffing and running of estates and villages, together with the loss of knowledge, income and possibly the owning families. Many lands and properties were abandoned or downgraded with only part of the buildings being occupied or used, due to shortage of staff and finances, and eventually these too were abandoned or sold if possible. Very sad.

The racks are for drying laundry, we had them in the Royal Navy at Portsmouth in the 1970s.

I'm not really enthusiastic about seeing dead animals or toilets that have never been flushed. I do love exploring abandoned homes from my recliner. I'm an ongoing fan of Freaktography, Ethan Minnie, Riddim Ryder, Bros of Decay, Steve Ronin, and Noah.Nowhere. Plus a few others. Always looking for others. At 73 I rarely do anything else.... I do watch Dr. Pimple Popper too.😊

HISTORY OF THE SITE.

So sad to see such decay for such a nice and unique structure. Modern isn’t always better! Thank you! Very enjoyable except for the sad part of the ruins.

What a place!! I’ll bet the mansion house that once stood on those grounds was beautiful…you could almost smell the old beams and feel the history in the old farmhouse too 😊 another great video, thank you ❤

Bloody awesome. What an amazing estate that must have been once. Love the network of tunnels. For all the airs of the upper class who lived there it is now just a sad ruin. Imagine the money and labour that went into the construction of that place and the number of staff it took to run it.

Lovely old farmhouse, it would look beautiful restored, so many original features. The upstairs level would have been the children’s nursery and the attic for the servants. It’s incredible that it’s hardly been too modernized. You three make a great team.
