Just came across your channel (subscribed) and thoroughly appreciate your work. Yes, I have been having a serious problem with my chickens not laying eggs and also having a problem with molting. This has been going on for a year and I have experimented with a multitude of different grain manufacturers to no avail. As a result my chickens have become a science experiment with me documenting and studying the situation. Yes, I have also come to the conclusion that it is the feed from ALL of the manufacturers! The question is WHY? I don't have an answer to that but can guess (somebody does NOT want us to have chickens). I am now removing ALL commercial feed and going to homegrown and micro brewery spent grains. We shall see!!!
Greetings and thank you sir! Yeah, the only thing I could think of is the fact that some of the major feed companies are actually owned by the same companies that offer eggs! Isn't that interesting... Anyway, I wish you the best with your chickens!
Great question! As long as it is the cool season, it lasts for quite a while without going bad (I keep it in 5-gallon buckets outside in the shade). If it is below freezing, I store it in my recycled window greenhouse wich stays cool, yet I let some buckets freeze for later so they last much longer. Summer is a different story. I will just be picking them up more often, and/or trying to preserve them by drying them out on a tarp or something in the sun. Will likely post on that if I do so.
@TheIntegratedGarden I live in the PNW and there are lots of micro breweries here but I have been thinking about getting back to homebrewing anyways. I would have eventually thought of this but I didn't have chickens before so I just scattered them in the garden.
My chickens haven't been laying consistently for about three months. About a week ago I switched to a local feed and have been trying to increase their kitchen scraps and allowing them more access to forage.
