He will never grasp the missed potential of this run. A skilled player could probably take this seed to an A20 heart kill pretty easily. I wonder if he will ever understand the power of Dark Embrace over the course of this series. A top-5 most powerful card in the entire game.
27:28 "It would be nice to have more bodyslams" *drinks potion, gets Secret Weapon as a choice* *picks finesse instead* "Sometimes not having to read is a privilege"
@@davidmcgowan735 It kinda depends on what your exhaust synergy looks like. Stacking up Wounds in hand via Runic Pyramid and then popping a Second Wind or Fiend Fire is pretty good.
Wounds + Runic Pyramid = Death, I don't think dodging power through is the wrong move in this deck, his only exhaust was one true grit and he had a hand with 5-6 wounds in it a few times
17:54 "What's the theme of the deck? The theme of the deck is drawing Body Slam." 22:30 _doesn't take the Body Slam+_ 27:27 "...It would be nice to have more Body Slams, though."
@@MehYam2112 Agreed. If I were trying to beat the heart I would've taken juggernaut 100% though Edit: Actually seeing the tempo of the deck, and the small deck size probs just going with a finess/flash of steel infinite would've been a better way to deal with the harder encounters, jugg wasn't really necessary here.
That match event raised the damage output, gave the deck something to do while waiting for the combo, unclogged hands for Runnic Pyramid, and fixed the 3 energy problem. They're calling it the best Forethought of all time.
7:40 now I almost never, ever take runic dome, but if there was ever a deck to take it, it's an ironwave-block-bodyslam centered build. You're wanting to stack big block anyway for the bodyslams, who cares if you can see their intentions. Edit: I stand corrected, the Runic Pyramid with such a small deck has his entire deck whipping around every turn. Edit2: Nvm he just ruined my morning by passing up Juggernaut.
I usually play defect, but I'm doing a bunch of ironclad runs right now and tried my first rupture deck last night. It's very good and I hope you get frozen egg and rupture soon!
27:30 "it would be nice to have more body slams" *card option to immediately put a body slam into his hand* *picks finesse for no reason* im losing my gourd over here XD
I say it all the time and I'll say it again. I love this man so much, completely platonic but his content is just so great and I find myself just enjoying every single video I watch on this channel.
He still believes Corruption is advanced underwater neurosurgery, and that he can't take it because he doesn't yet know The Secret Reason To Exhaust Your Best Skills. instead of "it makes your cards free"
One damage does add up, NL, the Silent has an entire card that adds one damage to every card they play and it's quite good. One damage can't be Reaganomics, because it doesn't ruin your run forever and somehow get worshipped for it.
Can't lie, taking Forethought over those Juggernauts and Berserks is the sort of error that could lose you a run like this on A15+. Still a very sturdy deck, kept it at >20 cards and added very little bloat. Edit: Would also advise killing the Taskmaster first when running Runic Pyramid, of course killing the Red one free of charge on turn one circumvents the need for it but that shit can get hairy quick.
36:53 Am I not understanding something? he has no cards in the draw pile so he could have made p. through, double tap and entrench free with no downside? If hi did that and my math is correct he would have had lethal: 112 block and 2 double tapped body slams edit: ok I forgot about the fact that it would take up draw to redraw them but considering the TC is vulnerable it still might have been lethal edit: he did exactly that 2 turns later.
Well, the downside is that it costs him 3/5ths of his next turn's draw. With Runic Pyramid he'll build a better hand if he keeps the cards in his hand.
That being said, it probably would have been a good play to discount one or two of them to make sure he has the energy to do a big play next turn. You'd have to calculate what you're likely to draw and what you want to play.
some runs you turn into a super powered giga killing machine capable of leveling mountains and doing 5000 damage to the timekeeper in one turn but other runs you just put up a lot of block and consistently do sizable chunks in a way thats just enough to get you to the end, simple elegant and clean this is one of the latter id say. though if NL got that barricade it would have been the former
The game had to force Power Through onto him and he still almost removed it at the first chance he was given. I hope this run has improved his evaluation of it. One of the best block cards in the game, and lots of synergy with a lot of other top tier Ironclad cards (e.g. Second Wind, Fiend Fire, Dark Embrace, Feel No Pain, True Grit, etc.)
my guy almost lost because he exhausted his whole deck but then the astrolabe saves him with an upgraded power through, egg already skipped like 2 power throughs, and not to mention the "we don't really exhaust that much cards... i love the egg
Since NL has been posting slay the spire content I’ve tried to watch it but never have been able to watch more than 5 minutes. Going to try this one again.
I would have really liked to see that Juggernaut taken; It basically turns every Iron Wave into a 12 damage (or 15 free damage per turn assuming 3 blocks played) card and with Runic Pyramid, you don't have to play it on the turn you draw it.
I'm curious what other people say, I think I must overvalue power through but having one powerthrough with a true grit in the deck and pyramid strikes me as a great deal. 15-20 block for 1 when you need it has saved my ass so many times even if it doesn't synergize with anything in particular. 2 wounds isn't going to clog your deck up and if the fight is going on long enough that you get more than 4 of them you've got bigger problems or you've at least done a bunch of setup and probably culled at least that many powers and exhaust cards.
