please subscribe!! we are going to get a bigger home for them and make sure they get everything they need❤️ #shorts #beach #beachweek #seniorweek #summer #hermitcrab #hermitcrabs #pet
i hope you guys know how to take care of these. i've had hermit crabs for a while, and you at least a ten gallon tank for them, and no paint as it can be toxic.
Hay Katie, if you didn’t already know if you want your little hermit crabs to live long you gotta remember at least three times their size of substrate and make shire to get a bigger and better glass tank that can hold lots of humidity!
@@lucidlemonarts7597 Exactly! I was gonna say that. Hermit crabs are not meant to be pets in the first place!!! All are wild caught. I mean seriously if ur gonna get one at least don't be stupid.
@@lucidlemonarts7597 yes, hello. I know this is an old comment. But I had a impulse buy but I've put dedication into my Two hermit crabs. Spent over 500+ on the little guys. And they're living a wonderful life in their well cared terrarium.
Hey Katie! I love your videos so much and I follow u but I just want to let you know in a nice way that those shells are toxic to the crabs, and the people that sell them and give you the items it needs are wrong, they need way more than that! I just know because I have some! :) Keep up the great videos!!
I have had lots and of hermit crabs in the past and I have to agree they need a lot more room and you should get a normal non-painted shell and also do some research on them just to get a better understanding and f all the things they need to live as long as they can.
Tou arnt supposed to get painted shells because it slowly but surely kills them because the chemical in the paint. And those hermit crabs in those stores they dont have humidity in the cage and that slowly but surely kills them too. And those cages you need to get a plastic or glass cage so it can keep the humidity up.
@@beeeeeeeeait’s not. All painted or colored shells are toxic to hermit crabs. Over 70% of deaths in captivity for hermit crabs comes from poisoning from their painted shells. Natural shells are the only shells they should have. I have 8. All 8 have natural shells. If they’re in painted, it means they’ve been tortured to get them out of their natural one to put them in a painted one. Don’t ever support painted shells. They are the epitome of animal cruelty with 50% of hermits cracked out of their original shells dying from it.
I feel bad for those hermit crabs stuck in such a tiny cage I personally have two and they are in a 10 gallon also those shells are toxic for crabs because if the paint chips off and they could eat it anyways still love you Katie
Just to let you know incase you didn’t those shell’s that the crabs are in is toxic for them. This is because of the paint out on the shell it is animal abuse. I was just letting you know incase you didn’t!
I just got two hermit crabs on Saturday and I named them shelby and clawdia I love them so much but tbh I was hoping for a boy so I cloud name him Edward scissorhands (if ya know ya know) I love them so much but DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! I mean this in the nicest way possible if you don’t take care of them the right way they could die in a week so do your research! 😃😉😘
can you please do research before buying animals. they need at least a ten gallon tank, with six inches of coconut fiber so they can molt, a heat lamp, fresh water AND salt water and much more please do research this is animal abuaw
I recommend using shells that don’t have paint on them because they do eat little bits of their shells and the paint could be bad for them (mine are little bits of their shells at least)
I had 2 hermit crabs when I was a kid and even I had to do research in 5th grade on how to take care of them before my dad even considered getting them. I hope they know what they’re doing and they’re not just getting it because of the word “free”
Did you know that if you get a painted shell for your hermit crab it has a better chance of dying quicker. I have 4 hermit crabs and my oldest one is 3 years old and from the beach the other three hermit crabs are 2
Hi Katie, no hate but those shells are toxic to your hermies and you need at least 5 gallons of tank space per crab. Hermies can live up to 20 years in captivity with proper care so you need to be prepared to help your hermits live as long as they can. A great crab info channel I’d crab central station and I suggest next time not to impulse buy. And also make sure they all have at least one tank make because if they are lonely they could die. Please do not take this negatively as I just want to help you and your crabbies. Bye 😊
Hey Katie! Here’s some advice. I’ve had hermit crabs for awhile and they are kinda rough. Don’t get two because the ones that I had fought a lot and ended up killing each other. It’s very dangerous. Also, the shells are toxic for hermit crabs. Just some safe advice. :) Edit: uhhh so lemme just tell y’all that I got the hermit crabs at the mall bc a dude was BEGGING us to get the crabs. He kept lowering the price and wouldn’t leave us alone. So we never wanted crabs but He made us get two, and obviously they didn’t do well together. So that’s kinda the backstory of how I got the hermit crabs. Maybe they weren’t treated right but idk
hey uh i have two hermit crabs and i’ve had them for about 5 months maybe? how long did it take for them to like start hating each other? just wondering
@@pressleywaters768 I did only have them for a couple months. We kept them in separate cages but one day we put them together and they killed each other. About a week once we got them that’s why we separated them. They like to live alone.
I had a hermit crab when i was little, like 5 or 3. It had a pink shell,my sister also had a purple one. Now that im older i now know how messed up it is on they painted of their shells.
Things missing: 10 gallon tank, heat mat, primed water to wash themselves in, led light, natural shells, something to climb on, play sand eco earth 5:1 ratio, good source of protein and vegetables, moss, and humidity.
As a hermit crab owner myself I will tell you, do NOT use painted shells! Buy normal shells for them to grow into since most stores sell them to you with the shell already painted
Taking care of hermit crabs is actually very hard. They get stressed easily and if you don't know how to identify the cause and alleviate it, they come out of their shells and die 🤧
I’ve had my hermit crabs for about 3 years before I got them they lived for 10 years. Those are my new ones. The one before my new ones that I got with paint on its shell died after 3 weeks. You know they break there shells of to get on the painted shell.
Hi katie, before getting hermit crabs you should research a bit because theres some things that they need that you don't know, like for example natural not painted shells they can molt into when they shed, a bigger, proper, tank for them to run around, and substrate so they can dig, also put food and water for them to properly survive, and they somtimes pinch and let them go when they pinch cuz it means that they're stressed.
I have 5 hermit crabs in a 20 gallon tank. You will need extra shells for them to pick from. They need water all the time. But not a pool of water, they like to climb. They like to dig so you need sand, dont nessasarily need a heating lamp. Huts for it to hide. Good luck not killing it
A common misconception people have with these awesome critters is rhat they treat them like their treating a bug as a pet. They can get as big as a softball and live up to 30 years in the wild, if they are still alive please upgrade their cage to a tank with all the little things they need to have
Awwww I rmb going to the beach when I was young and catching hermit crabs just to watch them coming out of their shell, I wanted to bring all of them back home but my granny wouldn't let me, I was sad cuz I love hermit crabs :(
I have pet hermit crabs and they need a ten gallon tank, different food everyday, a place to hide and to dig, fresh water bowl and salt water bowl, good soil, and places to climb also no paint on the shells cuz they like to pick at the shells so try to get natural shells. These animals are so much fun so have fun with them😁
every time when i was younger and I visited my family in asia my cousins would always bring me and my brothers hermit crabs to play with and i got mini hermit crabs
Okay. I own two so here’s my advice. So the Hermie hut is a good purchase mine uses it for sleep. But you need to have a bowl with fresh water and a sponge in it for them to drink. Then a bowl with saltwater (not table salt, not tap water) with bottled water and sea salt. That’s for them to bathe. You need it to be a certain temperature for them to breathe. And you need to mist it with a spray bottle of warm water every so often.
Hermit crabs need a lot of work and attention to be happy. Many things that they sell at places like this are only trying to get your money and don't care about the well being of the crabs. I suggest doing some research to provide them with a better habitat than what the store offered. I recommend at least a ten gallon aquarium with a few inches of substrate for them to burrow in. That also need some where to hide (the hermi hut you purchased would actually be great!) and things to climb on. Many pet store have this supplies. For the climbing toys and food dishes reptile products work well. Pet stores often have unpainted shells too. Many commerical hermit crab foods can be harmful to your pet so most fresh fruits and vegetables are a better option. I hope this helps you care for you new pet!!
tip: don't get a enclosure with those wired walls as u saw the crabs like to stay on them but they need to be active so don't get a enclosure with wire walls and btw there's non toxic hermit crab shells I don't think they sell toxic hermit crab shells
I have hermit crabs. We’ve had 4. The first one was Hermit (Very original) and the second one was named Krusty. Then Hermit died and we got Hermit jr. That crab died and now we just have Krusty and a tiny crab named Tiny
I had a heemjt crab, i got a non painted one becuase they dont live as long, i had a active on and a lazy one named mr crabs and tye dye, I hope you like the experiance with them!
When I was a little, a have about 4 of them but not painted. Once every week, my dad always release them in the backyard until one day, only one left because the rest is missing. I guess they burried themself in the ground.
Heres a few tips: DON'T get painted shells. get normal shells that range in sizes. Get at least 5 shells of the size of your hermit crab and as your crab gets bigger get bigger shells. Feed them veggies and fruits and watch videos and read articles on how to properly take care of them. They are social so get 2 or more!! (I own hermit crabs)
i see a lot of people have already said this but if your thinking of getting a hermit crab please think again. all hermit crabs come from the wild (meaning they were taken from their natural habitat to live in tanks) and they are very misunderstood animals. many people end of abusing them unknowingly. if you really really want a hermit crab please do research before to make sure you give it the best care.
I've had my hermit crab for like six years now and you don't not want to give them painted shells because they're toxic you want to move them to a giant tank and you want there to be many play things on there for them
I had a hermit crab he / she lasted for almost a year and my brother’s only lasted like 1-2 months 😅 (probably cause i actually took care of mine good lol)
Okok; Natural shells! At least five correct sizes as they grow! Ten gallon tank for each hermit crab! No pellet food! You know what? Watch central crab station they have good tips
Hey that's for you guys to know you need to give them a bigger tank you guys are kind of stupid for not thinking that those tanks are abusing them they don't need painted shells they are toxic they need at least a 10 gallon tank and soil and equal works really good just try to your best to work this out okay
