Good news! James May has had a drive in the latest Dacia Sandero! But he's decided upon a twin test that you probably aren't expecting... Check out the behind the scenes: • Filming James May & th...
Bought one while very tight on budget, been driving it for the past 5 years. Does the job, never failed once, didn't rust, spent next to nothing on diesel. I don't care if it doesn't warm up my buttocks, has no digital radio, or misses voice recognition. It's a reliable car that never failed us.
For someone not caring about cars at all only for the fact they should bring me to A-B this is exactly the minimalistic I am willing to spend money on.
I still remember the early days of Dacia here in the Netherlands, my dad owned one of the first Logan MCV's in the country, every Dacia driver waved at each other and there was a yearly meetup with like minded sensible car buyers, this lasted for the first 2-3 years before it really became a mainstream car brand
What he makes no mention of whatsoever is.... the looks. I've never previously, or remotely, considered a Dacia to buy. This though is a vast improvement in looks over previous Dacia's. Really attractive.
Don't care how much the Sandero costs. IMO it's one of the best looking affordable cars on the market. Those new headlights and the interior are absolotely spot-on. I love the suspension setup, love the seats, love the feel of the shifter, steering and the pedals. It's a joy to drive around a town or country roads. I already own a Duster which brings me absolute joy, but this (in Stepway trim) would be my #1 pick of the current market.
@@Godl1ked Product placement is the inclusion of, or a reference to, a product or service in return for payment or any consideration in kind. The taking of product placement for licence fee funded services is prohibited under the terms of the BBC Agreement. The BBC must not commission, produce or co-produce output for its licence fee funded services which contains product placement. All programmes made by the BBC or an independent producer for broadcast on BBC licence fee funded services must be free of product placement. If I understand this correctly, the early mentions of the sandero on BBC's Top Gear would have been product placement if it was paid for, which the BBC wont do and I haven't heard May mention any sponsorship from Dacia at any time nor do I think he needs the money. In conclusion, I believe the advertisement provided by May for the Sandero has indeed been free throughout the years. If you mean it's been paid for by some other means or under the table, please specify, though I would highly doubt any sort of under the table deal existing here considering he still speaks fondly of the car despite having cut his ties to the BBC.
@@aintgotnophd2196 Top gear gets the cars for free and return them after filming. They only pay for the ones they plan to destroy beyond repair (aka the challenge cars mainly). They are allowed to say what they like about the cars, however manufacturers may provide suggested talking points. In the case of Dacia, they got like, 1 car physically on the show, and it was hit by a truck. So I think it was all free advertising for them during the news sections.
@@duck74UK yeah I am 90% sure that james likes the car because it's quirky, reliable and affordable I hope he gets one at some point, I know it would seem that dacia it's nothing special, and it is, but it's insanely reliable, I've seen dacia taxis with a million kilometers, and I think they are that reliable because they are very simple, it's in essence a people's car, goes from A to B, won't let you down, and there is no nonsense
Well we knew which would be better I mean most people growing up had bikes and I mean I do its obvious growing up with bikes which I'd have so I assume everyone else kind of thinks like that its obvious with a choice what youd have
@@dragospahontu Dacia isn't meant for people who can buy a used car and fix it up to run properly. Because I hope you know that not everybody would be capable/willing to through all effort that for a used car.
@@Izzue2 i can't say i was watching these boys' TG episodes before 2019 but wow I can imagine your happiness that he's finally done a 'proper' review 🤣
Hearing James talk about his "Dwindling Days" makes me so sad. It's entirely likely that James May will pass in our lifetime, and that makes me exceptionally depressed...
I love my Sandero, I mean it's the bourgeoise Stepway model... but it often gets commented on about it being James May's car; i'm proud of that! Treating myself to the ultra bourgeoise new Stepway model! Best thing I did was go to Dacia! Thanks James!
I just traded in my shitbox for a second hand Dacia and I'm really happy with it. The 0.9 turbo engine pulls well enough to get up to 70 quickly and it just sips fuel. I'm only 23 and my heart was telling me to get a fiesta St or something sporty but my mind prevailed and in very happy with my Dacia.
May should come to Brazil and test the Sandero RS witch is a sport version. It has a 2.0 engine with 151hp and a 6 speed manual transmission. It`s a hot hatch!
It was after the Top Gear fall out that I realised how much of a genius May actually is, he raised the bar so high for me at such a young age that now no other show is to my liking other than re watching original topgear and these videos. Thanks DriveTribe for giving more life to us by filming such a character. Btw I love the Decia now. I will sell my car to get one of those precious transportation machine. I cant ask for more than that to be honest. All the other new cars are just money pits. I dont care how rich you are, you dont need them! you're just insecure.... but we all are i guess!
@@whothebeast666 yep s7, there’s a bunch of crazy cars in my town and I’ve seen it a few times at local car shows, one of the coolest cars I’ve ever seen 🤙
I did lots of research when considering a new Duster. It would appear that those bemoaning and running Dacia down have little or nothing to do with the cars. When you consult owners, you rarely if ever hear anyone complaining. In fact, an Honest John survey found Dacia the most popular after returning over 10,000 survey samples. Dacia was second behind Lexus in owner reliability experience, too. I've had my brand new Dacia Duster Bi-Fuel in Arizona orange (Prestige) for seven weeks. It costs £33 to fill 45 litres and returns 40mpg (400 miles out of the tank). It works out at 8p per mile. If I were to use the petrol more often, I'd be paying 20p per mile!!! I came from a C4 Cactus Hdi returning 65mpg... current fuel cost would be around 13p per mile for the Cactus. You do the economics... Best decision I've ever made in a car!! Check out my (very badly filmed) video below! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qtAv5hOiLAo.html
Lovely part of the world. I lived there until my late teens and used to cycle past the pub to go fishing in the river at Chicksgrove. PS, the roads are poor, May might need to change the deep V bike wheels for 24mm alu rims. Less harsh on the pineal gland.
As a 48 year old roadie that always felt captain slow copped too much flack..This is just the video I've been waiting for. Lovely word, quips and details....another level of You Tube car journalism.
I’ve had a Dacia Logan for 5 years now, second one I owned. Great for just doing the job of getting A to B. No fuss. And allows me to spend the money I saved on petrol, running costs, and insurance on things I want such as luxury holidays…
Thinking of getting one, slightly worried about the size coming from a Suzuki Alto. How do you find city driving in it, and do the seats fold completely flat?
It’s crazy how they can produce and sell this car to this price and make even profit...all the parts, the manufacturing, the transport and logistics...
They don't make profit on the cheapest version, however almost nobody buys that version. Most go for comfort because it gives the right amount of permium for little money.
Most of the costs of producing a car is about designing the mechanicals and making them reliable. If you get available (Renault) parts, you already have spared this. Also, the basic model is just an "advertising model", i.e. it's just there to show a very low price but almost everybody will buy the medium-spec version whose price is a few K pounds more but costs very little more to build (mainly 'cause options and expecially electronic gadgetry are quite cheap to make).
The best reviewer for sensible cars, in the world. I'm actually interested in the Sandero Stepway, simple cars are nice. Also, wonderful backdrop with peaceful fields of sheep.
I like the Sandero. Would I buy one? If they did a 150bhp version perhaps. Urus... I wouldn't buy that even if I could afford it. Sooner go with an m5 estate or something if they even make an estate version?
I appreciate James May's humour and I thanks him for the commercial. Dacia is indeed a real car, offering basic needs for a family. It is more easily to build expensive cars than cheaper cars, believe-me. On the other hand, in Romania we are also building super bikes carbon fiber frames for italian racing bikes. Therefore I am proud to be romanian! Thank you James May!

I got the Sandero as a replacement for the company car (Fiat grande punto) I had in February. We keep a running joke that it was cheaper to give us a brand new car to drive rather than giving us a raise. It gets the job done, and it's comfortable.
J'adore votre humour décalé pour comparer une voiture et un vélo. Avec détachement. Sincèrement. Avantages et inconvénients... Votre vélo est super et la Sandero est super. Regards from France.
