You guys have my vote of confidence. It’s just a matter of sorting everything out. I believe your off to a good start. It won’t be long now. Can’t wait to see you guys riding it.
Beautiful sound when it fired up, giving life to the beast! Those bikes are a passion and a love hate, they’re ALWAYS a work in progress. I love the father son dynamic, such a great sight seeing you guys working together! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
IM SO GLAD IT DIDNT START ON THE 2nd KICK - NOW IF FEEL BETTER ABOUT MINE EVERY TIME I RUN IT AFTER 6 MONTHS OF SITTING - EVEN THOUGH IT WILL BE 3 YEARS THIS TIME AS ITS BEEN IN STORAGE - GREAT VID,THANKS
Fellas...that is not a 2 stroke. Bring the kicker up on the compression stroke before you stab the kicker pedal. If that thing fires while you're doing that it will toss you into the garage. ( or at the very least, you'll need some knee surgery) Ask me how I know! Do yourself a big favor and swap that carb out for the Super E. You WILL need the S&S manifold...the Bendix intake won't work. You'll thank me later. Oh, and I couldn't help myself... I subscribed...lol
The S&S carb throat is bigger than the intake throat... gotta get an S&S intake to match the Super E Shorty... been there done that... got the tee shirt!! Lol
You might want to try checking the float/float needle for proper adjustment, operation, and that the float has no leaks before giving up on the Bendix. That is about the only thing that could cause carb flooding. I've worked on many early shovels, and the Bendix carbs work well if not damaged.
been chuckeling while watching your vids, been working on old iron since 75, actually went to school for them, bendix is a great carb, s&s is good with drag pipes, lot of good info on the web these days, also some bad.
Have you checked compression on that motor? I had one recently did similar things, had low compression, put air to the cylinders and had leaky intake valve. The Bendix works well if all the stars are aligned!!!
I believe we did off camera and it had a surprisingly good amount. A Bendix would’ve worked, but not that Bendix lol. We are just so accustomed to S&S Super Es that it was just a lot easier to switch
Yep, there's a trick, and combination to Kickstarting and older Harley. That ain't it. I'll give you one trick to save your knee and leg, when you push the kicker down, if you hold it just past bottom center, it can't kick back. Idle up just a hair, and check your timing. Good luck. My 52 is a one kick when warm, and a one kick cold if you know the combination. :D
@@KingpinGarage A good carb that was specifically designed for Harleys, and the CV is designed to be a little more compliant with emissions laws so would possible be harder to 'dial-in'. Best bit about the S&S is it's simplicity - enjoy the bike it is a real timepeice, just a shame about it being rigid !
Funny story, 3gknuck bought the bike from us at the Mecum Motorcycle Auction which he then used his larger fanbase to raffle it off. He's a cool guy and we didn't know he bought it from us till after the auction.
This bike is set to appear at the Mecum Motorcycle Auctions in Las Vegas, Nevada. Check it out January 26-31! www.mecum.com/lots/LV0121-435816/1973-harley-davidson-shovelhead-rigid-custom-chopper/
Clown show episode 7. WHAT? The American people feel like that Honda is the ugliest bike we've ever seen once the rice falls out it's hard to put it back in
