Bigger is never better. The simplier life is a blessing..less stress, less expense. Bills arw kept down in a smaller house. Tiny living is very trendy. Go for it.
Life is not about money or wealth, it is about love and happiness. Sometimes you have to suck salt before you are able to suck sugar. I am so proud of you guys. You are wise in planning your finances well the future ahead.
You guys are absolutely correct about benefits of small/tiny living. For a long time we lived in a 5,000 sq ft home on a half acre property. Eventually we examined it and realized that we could cut household expense by over 60% plus reduce property insurance by another 20% if we moved into a 1,300 - 2,000 sq ft space house with just a small garden. It was big savings and lot less headache.
Is it just me or?.... What is wrong with a small house? I actually looove them: they are energy savers in every way!!! Bills, maintenance, fuss, decoration, security, waste, not to mention they are really cute!
A small house is homey and cozy. A big house can be cold due to excess space which if not filled with furniture echoes and too much furniture makes the space feels crowded especially if the decor doesn't flow.
I live in a small house and YES, you quickly realise how amazing it is to be able to clean in 10 minutes LOL and I'm lazy, I don't want to go upstairs and walk 2 minutes to go get something. Everything is close by this way. Haha!

I had cancer, lost my house, bought a small house. I need help making it live able. I am saving money each month, got to buy the materials needed. Good you husband can build you a house. Great perspective on how to live a richer life by reducing costs. A great quote by Ramit Sethi is “spend extravagantly on the things you love but cut mercilessly on the things you don’t” by getting a smaller house you can use that money in better areas.
Love your journey. We bought two small homes in the Bay Area, 2 and 1 than 2 and 2. The second bath was necessary for a family of 5. We added 2 tiny bedrooms to our 2 and 2 house, I thought adding 1 more would be plenty. Our children are grown now, so our home seems big. Less house is better, just like fewer bills is better. Freedom is the goal. Stay happy

Anyone from the Caribbean knows about small houses because lots of us grew up in a small house. Some Americans are also building small (tiny) homes. In Trinidad 🇹🇹 there are a lots of mansions standing empty, why, because parents have died, their children have moved on either in foreign countries or have their own and no one to take over the house. I have heard parents say that they regret building a mansion. A small house also keeps you from having a lot of clutter 😅. HGTV have series of shows on tiny homes. Once you are comfortable, that's what is important.
I applaud you guys in knowing exactly how you want to live your life, no outside influences. This is what it means, the world is your oyster do what makes your heart content. All the best to guys.

Well done guys , a lot of relationship nowadays don’t have partnership, you guys are the true meaning of that,supporting each other and starting out small and maybe down the road you may change your mind and want another room 😊you never know, but the most important thing is that you’re all together supporting each other and i see the love the way you both look at each other may the lord continue to bless your family .

Love your Home. I don't want any large home. Lived in a couple of them and maintenance was high. I end up not using most of the spaces/rooms. Can we get a tour of your home? Timely advice, especially these days when things are sky high. Lol I was raised in a two bedroom 6 children and we made it. I certainly won’t aim to replay that but it’s what works for the moment. Awesome advice. Stay focus with the planing and enjoy life.🙏🏿🙌

Happy that you made this decision for your family. I do have a question. By building on your parents property, did it affect their property tax ( if they have this in Sweden) and do you participate in that. I am sorry if it sounds like I’m being noisy.😅😊
I have lived in 300-400 sq ft for the last 19 years. It enabled me to retire at 58 and to travel every year for 1.5 months to 9 mos a year (minus Covid). I love my small studio that I live in the woods.. it’s both for me a financial decision first that in turn would give me freedoms I otherwise could not do or afford. I’m 73 now and I love my treehouse. I never use a credit card on anything so I have no debt other than a car pymt. I applaud your decision!
