@@ingridkolobaric2389 It sounds like you are very upset that a place you love was portrayed negatively. Personally I didn't not think badly of the country because of this video. I know that every place will have bad elements and you need to guard your valuables in every country. However; if you watch this video, you will see that they portray the country honestly from their experience. I would have been much more upset than you are if they had this experience and did not revealed it. I understand your response because the emotions are very obvious. I would suggest you think about how you are portraying your country with your comment because honestly I have a more negative reaction to Croatia from your response than from the video.

I have been to Croatia back in the mid 70s the first time (back then part of Yugoslavia) and the last time in the early 80s, long before the balkan war. Loved every moment of it, well, almost, Vegetarians were something of an alien thing back then down there. But Croatia is certainly one of the most beautiful parts of Europe. Having lived 16 years in the USA, I am so happy to be back in Europe and have this magnificent historical backdrop, showing in buildings, city layouts, architecture, culture, music ... and more than anything ... countless mentalities and wonderful people. Make no mistake, I love America for a number of reasons, after all my wife is American, but we both agree, there is no comparison in almost every aspect of life that matter to us. Europe is sooooooo rich and it will take decades to get a halfway full picture of its people, cultures, traditions, nature and its certainly worth it to explore it like you do. Does Europe have problems? Oh my, yes, plenty of 'em. But it is a wonderful place to live and bring up your children.

I am watching "americans in germany" videos since a couple of years now, and you have definitely set a new standard! Thumbs up and all the best to you and your daughter! Great video, beautiful pictures, music and editing! Please take care of yourself and your belongings! There are a lot of "pickpockets", robbers and thieves out there as soon as you leave your village/surroundings and act like the typical tourists!
Scammers and thieves are everywhere. This morning our TV is reporting on the huge amounts of online fraud. It amounted to £1.7 billion in the past 12 months. Be especially careful of unsolicited emails.
Croatia is full of tourist in the summer time. Some of them is not tourist, they are thieves, from many different countries, especially from the eastern Europe. So do not leave your belongings without supervision. Keep an eye on it, and everything will be fine!
Croatia is an amazing place i go there every two years me and my wife have a house in the Island of Pag not far from Zadar. I'm glad you got everything back. Enjoy Croatia 🇭🇷.
Why would they be hurt? That would happened everywhere in the world if you leave your valuables and go swimming .They could leave their things near other people so that would be more safe

Never leave your stuff close to the fence at Bačvice beach, we always keep our stuff close to the locals and never carry expensive stuff with us. Last year there was a thief operating there but was targeting mostly tourists, she got caught eventually. The police station is like 300 m away (north) from the beach so that's one of the reasons why there are not that many thefts there.
Thank you so much for another great video! I love that you guys share the good experiences along with the not so good ones as well (obviously sorry for the latter ones). You guys sharing the unfortunate events along with such a nice and constructive reaction to them is so much appreciated. Loving your positivity - keep going! - Also, Willa remains the cutestestestest!

Really enjoyed your videos on the trip to Croatia. Stunning scenary, excellent editing and the whole family are stars in front of the camera. Very relieved to hear that you recovered your stolen bag without loss; unfortunately criminals take advantage of areas where travellers and/or tourists gather.
Hey guys...beautiful video, wonderfully pictures. I'm glad that all of you are OK and you got your stuff back. Always be careful about you and your stuff.. See you in the next video 😉
This seems to be a very charming place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
There is a trick how you can let your stuff unattended at a beach for a swim together: make a nice hole in the sand, get your bag with your valuables inside in the hole and cover it with your towels. Obviously you have to have an eye on it from the distance, but for thieves it get really unatractive because they have to kneel down and shovel to get your valuables which would make them look suspicious. Have made really good experiances with this trick and never got robbed.
Wow...you had quite the experience there!! But I loved all the footage of Croatia you shared. It's a beautiful country and I have very fond memories of sailing trips there as a kid and just two years ago we were able to go with our own family and we had two amazing weeks there. I hope to go back. Have fun on your travels.
Wow scary moment...glad it turned out well.. I love Croatia, we will be there in August! It's so cool to see all the places we've been to in your video, lol. Split and Zadar are beautiful 😍. This time we will visit Orebic
Dear Petra ,while you are in Orebic which is only 2 hours drive from Dubrovnik you can visit Dubrovnik ,too. Also make sure you visit island of Korčula that is only 10 minutes away from Orebic by boat and Island of Mljet that is a National Parc famous for 2 salty lakes . This year they have excellent connections from the islands such us Korcula,Hvar,Lastovo Mljet, to cities such us Dubrovnik and Split by catamaran operating daily. One day you can visit city of Ston that is number one place in this part of Europe for oysters and mussels. If you travel from Dubrovnik airport and you rent a car you can stop there on your way to Orebic. I hope you will enjoy in Orebic and entire peninsula of Pelješac that is a Croatian capital for red wines such as Postup and Dingač. Wish you a great holiday!
Btw. In Czech a lot of people talks about Croatia as something lesser of a destination, you known "it's just Croatia, nothing fancy" mainly because like half a republic visits croatia every year for several decades now but for me Croatia is very beautiful and your video reminded me when I was in Croatia like 20 years ago. Those narrow streets and buildings from stone blocks. It's very romantic in my eyes.
@@mislavsplitski7522 migrants are everywhere, man, migration is actually quite healthy for society to get some new fresh blood. The problem is if the immigrants think they are entitled to something and mistake our open arms with "we-can-do-anything"
What an adventure! Such beautiful pictures of you and of all the places you visited in Croatia. And: brave and lucky Tanner! I'm so glad, you could endyour trip without a loss.
Glad you got your stuff back. Most people are not that lucky. It's a tricky thing: Pickpockets and thieves are everywhere in the major European travel destinations. We almost got robbed in Paris in the subway. Many years earlier, an entire hotel complex in Gran Canaria, Spain was burglarized while we were there. Hard to believe that wasn't an inside job. My dad "lost" his wallet years ago at the main train station in Berlin. It is so easy to let your guard down when travelling in Europe because most of the time it is very safe, except for when it is not. Spotting the difference of safe and unsafe is not always easy. Please don't get discouraged :) Thanks for your vlog. We enjoy it!
Getting robbed can even happen in Germany near tourist places or in train stations. When you travel you should be careful what you have with you and that you really have the valuables secure on your body (not even in your car!).
@@itsworkinprogress I actually would park my car in guarded parking areas in countries in South Europe as radios etc. often get stolen out of the cars, too.
That is bullocks. But where a lot tourists are you always have a lot people that will try to take advantage. 20 years ago I was living some months in Italy and do not ask me how often I have helped English and German people with the translations after someone broke into their cars . And yes, that is why there is much more guarded parking in Italy etc. than in e.g. Germany. No folk is really better than the other.
I've been robbed twice while traveling. Both times in the Mediterranean: southern France and Italy, near Rome. My sister's husband had put a map of Rome in the pocket of his jeans as a dummy target for thieves instead of his wallet. The plan was actually stolen from him on the bus in Rome.
Never got robbed, but then, I don't make it easy for thieves. I prefer bags which are pretty much impossible to reach in (like, the opening is actually between the back and your back, and what looks like the opening is just a dummy), and good old fashioned breast pouches for importat stuff I want to reach easily...preferable worn in a way that it is directly on my skin, so that I will fell if it slides away. Some people have made fun of my "old fashioned" preference for them, but I rather keep my valuables over worrying about something like that.
phew! Glad everything was ok. Take care and happy travelling. We miss Split and Croatia. Such an awesome place. I remember we did an island hop boat tour which included Hvar.
Whenever I go to the beach I take all the "old" things with me (towels, backpack, almost used up sunscreen, etc.). I also avoid areas with a lot of people. Whenever I am in the water I always keep an eye on my things. It's easier when you're at the beach with a group of friends since then you divide yourselves into groups and take turns to keep watch and go into the water.
Whew glad you got your stuff!!!!! I can’t run that fast so they would have gotten away. But we live in a time where these things can and do happen. Keep your valuables safe.
We visited Plitvice and it was incredible! You’ll have to check out that video- it’s one of our very favorites! :) Thank you for the other suggestions!
Very rare occurrence. I've lived in Croatia for 17 years, every summer spent at the beach. Never had anything stolen. Petty crime rate is really low here.
You are a lovely adventurous family and wonderful parents to your cute and charming daughter! I was impressed at how calmly and logically you handled being robbed. Great attitude!
You were very lucky to get your bag back. It was Tanner, being an obviously very sporty guy, who saved the day. You could get something like the Mengshen Wireless Vibration Alarm (£14.99 on Amazon) to attach to the bag. It has a remote control. Smartwater is also a possibility, but a loud, unexpected alarm going off would deter thieves more. Anyway, having seen your footage of Split I can see now why it has been a favourite holiday destination for many Brits for decades. I can buy that hotdog roll that Willa was eating in a Latvian bakery in my local town!
I travel to Croatia 10 to 20 times per year, maybe more. I have never been robbed or had any negative experience. But yes, like everone already told you - when there is two of us on the beach, we go sweeming seperatly or if we've met someone, ask them to watch our things (but second things hmmm almost never). o I gues it your fault. Not that I am defending croatia, but when we travel anywhere in Europe - we recieve sugguestions like take care of your bellogings, dont have to much cash and stuff like that. Its a good lessen learned for your future traveling anywhere...

It is ćevapi. Ćevapčići is a diminutive of ćevapi. Not necessary to call them like that if they are not small but regular size. I don't even know how that name came into wider use... weird.

Leaving your bags alone is an invitation to robbers. Also be aware of pickpockets and tricksters anywhere. I won't say that foreign country's other then Germany aren't as save but there are certain tourist places that are known for these inconveniences. Hope you are having a great time anyway.
Good it all went well in the end 🙏. A little Tip/trick i use when i go swimming: I ask other tourists/beachguests if they can take care of my bag as long as i go swimming. of course its not 100% Save as these guys can steal your stuff too but with a little human insight like they have a lot of luggage or are of older age etc you are quite safe with this trick.

I read in the paper that the local boys ran along with you, and that the thieves threw the bag away.. The drone and the rest are nothing damaged. You didn't report them to the police because they're juvenile delinquents. I haven't seen the video, but I wonder if you posted that in the video... I'm sorry for your experience like that, but a lot happens in life. Greetings from Zadar
👋👋Hello to you from Zadar! We loved experiencing that city! It’s beautiful! We didn’t know their age, but they really didn’t want any trouble once they gave us back our stuff so that’s why we didn’t call the cops. We saw the story in the news!
often times it's not locals that rob but scoundrels from out of town who come to pray on the tourists, thankfully it's very rare and never happened to me in 30 years of visiting regularly.
I fly drone myself, carry several cameras including expensive Sony a7riii, gopro, and gimbals. Even when I travel solo and leave my bag on the side, I lock it to a fixed structure or beach chair. Its better than not securing it, if someone tries to run with it, they’ll be stalled by the locked structure. Im glad your drone and all filming gears were intact. Everyone travel safe and have fun.
An awful story with a Happy End! Glad you found the backpack almost untouched!! I would be terrified to leave a bag with so much value alone on the beach. I’m already cautious about my phone 😅 In one of the clips you could see your diaper bag. Maybe split up the valuable items in different bags. Like for example the drone that you don’t need so often mix it up with the diaper bag. It might be fuller or unconventional but i don’t think people will look first into a diaper bag🙈
In can happen everywhere but especially in the southern countries and on the beach you have to be very cautious with your belongings. Huge cities like Rome or Barcelona also known to have a problem with pickpockets.
Beach where that happened is Bace and it is known as beach where you can't leave your stuffs without supervision. Expecialy spor were you are. From this spot someone got clothes and shoest from my friend while she was in sea and the best was that I was out, laying ond my stomack and didn't see anything.
we were just at Bačvice on monday wondering to ourselves, is it okay to leave our phones and ipads while we go for a quick swim, we were a bit paranoid, luckily nothing got stolen. thanks for sharing your story, we'll be much more careful and glad to hear you got your gear back safe and sound!
Yes when we were there many people told us that they leave their stuff there & it is typically okay. Hard to know, but being extra cautious is always the better choice! A lesson learned for us! Glad your stuff was safe & we hope you had such a great time there! :)
How do you feel about a camper van mode of travel along the Adriatic Sea? My husband and I would like to go but we are camper van people. :) think it would be safe? We did this in Germany and never once felt unsafe.
Oh my gosh do it!! You will love Croatia & all the surrounding countries! We felt safe in Croatia- That’s why we left our bags there haha, but we are learning it’s better to be a little more cautious!
20 years we got robbed in Portugal...spent the day at the beach....came back to the VW Van....and the window had been brokened. ....quite a shock!! Also some valuables got stolen out of the car....never to get them back! This can happen .....
So sorry for your bad experience in croatia. And as you're outside the states you may consider not talking about 75 degrees as that makes no sense in the rest of the world... i hope you enjoyed your trip anyway and keep only the good moments in your hearts!
@@HolgerJakobs Thats your opinion. I prefer Dubrovnic, thats my opinion. I know that Dubrovnic usually is totally overcrowded due to cruiseships, but there are no cruises due to corona. I definately like Dubrovnic more and this is a very single chance to see it without tourists. I would give a lot for that option. I would even go to Venice (if they have come by car) on the route back to home, as that is also totally empty (what is really an unbelievable experience!).
You never leave stuff on the beach while you’re in the water, traveling 101 bro. And those guys that stole your bag aren’t Croatian, more than likely foreigners
Croatia is a very safe country to visit. Possibly the safest in Europe. Negatives? High-cost of living, surly staff, general apathy and the typical Slavic angst, which you Westerners will never understand. Try visiting Rovinj and Porec in Istria to experience a different Croatia. Most restaurants are Albanian-run and waiters are super-friendly (especially if you are female and single). A different world, really.
😪sorry for bad experience. generally this summer we have big problem with beach robbers on entire Adriatic coast. hope next summer we get better prepared. 😘
Politicians are just robbing in Croatia.. ☹️.. Your people. No one's ever stolen anything from me. 2 times they gave me back my phone, which I lost and 1, wallet.. Unfortunately on the beach it happens that something is stolen from someone, that is why you do not carry a lot of money to the sea, for swimming, etc. If you're carrying, then ask a gentleman or a lady to keep an eye on your things while you're in the sea.. Of course there is a lot going on in the summer, and also in the summer they come to Croatia (seasonal thieves) with us on from Romania, Bulgaria..etc..read a pappers, info! Grettings from Zadar Dalmatia.. CROATIA ❤️🇭🇷
You are so lucky that you got all your stuff back. Don' t ever leave anything unattended, not even for a minute. There are burglers sometimes even gangs who make a living just with stealing from people. That can happen in every country. And don't leave your wonderful baby girl alone when the two of you go for a swim together, there are some sick people out there.
Stealing from the tourist who give them a jobs and the country a good reputation. In Split we don't condone that and if I was there I would surely help you catch does guys and they would have cought a proper beating.
I am always OCD about my belongings and will go to extraordinary lengths. I even have even been known to make my own lockable safe to keep valuables secure. Never ever leave belongings unattended especially on a beach.
Today we were at Bacvice beach and my friend lost her wallet from her bag. We were just walking along the beach and this theft happened. She realisd it only aftee sometime when she found her bag open. We would like to know if there is lost and found center to report
