Best I can tell, it comes down to Rippa being competition to EVS and not wanting to be under the Comicsgate umbrella. Some have described EVS as trying to aggressively gatekeep Rippa but he's not playing ball. Take all this with a grain of salt; I've only recently become aware that they're butting heads and I assumed independent comic book creators would have it in them to get along since they're fighting the same fight. Guess it's more complicated than that, though.

Eric refused to listen to criticism with Isom 1 and 2. Then Flash screwed over EVS after he deleted a CG group chat due to EVS's prices and started shitting on him. Then EVS started firing back, and that's how Trashcast started, as Eric was starting to shit on other CG members for criticism of his books.

Eric didnt like professionals like Ethan explaining how criticism helps you grow and become better within your field, that was the birth of TrashCast, go watch from episode one :)

Eric didn't want Professional advice. got butthurt when industry pros gave his advice to improve, he took it as an insult and went apeshit after. EVS and Shane both did covers for Eric, they promoted his stuff and Eric burnt the bridge.

There is more that I'm missing but below is a lengthy summary: 1) Dick Masterson wrote up a critique on ISOM # 1 2) Eric July said that critique came from bad faith and therefore should be ignored completely. 3) EVS said it shouldn't matter if the source is from good faith or bad faith. All that should matter is how legitimate critique improves work when listened to. EVS also stated it doesn't matter how good or bad a book may be, improvement should always be the author's goal. He used himself as an example of improving as a writer due to criticism. 4) EJ rejected EVS's statement and was angry at EVS for saying it publicly. 5) EVS used Mandy Summers as another example. He stated her first book received well deserved criticism. EVS pointed out how Mandy took that criticism to heart, improved, and is now publishing legitimately solid books. 6) There was additional tension over EVS asking EJ to use his platform to help promote smaller independent creators with little to no platform who EJ might like. 7) EJ stated that promoting anyone else makes no sense as they would be his competitors. EVS said granted, EJ built up a large platform himself, but the CG platform was happy when they were promoting EJ's Rippaverse as "the tide raises all ships". 8) Public tensions began to quiet down between EVS & EJ after that. This lasted months. 9) Months later, EVS decided to reveal a DM from EJ that had been bothering him and he couldn't take it any more. EVS said he was quiet as to not cause waves but he felt like a coward who was being threatened for keeping quiet. 10) The DM from EJ stated that EVS needed to stop playing "on the fence" and needs to reject those who were critical of ISOM or EJ himself. The DM stated that EJ had others lined up who will turn on EVS if given the right word. The DM stated that EVS better fall in line or there will be consequences. 11) EJ insisted his DM had no threat in it. EVS insisted the line saying "Do [this] or there will be consequences" is the very definition of a threat. 12) Up until this point EVS felt he and YellowFlash were on good terms. YF turned on EVS. He revealed how much $ EVS proposed to draw a cover for his book. He blocked EVS on his social media. YF also dissolved a CG community room he had set up on Twitter. 13) NOTE: General business practice states it is fine to say if one disapproves of a financial proposal, but never go public with exact amounts. Revealing exact amounts is unethical and business taboo due to direct and indirect fallout. 14) EVS stated YF should only go after him if there is personal beef and not go after CG as a whole by dissolving the CG room. EVS stated the amount he proposed for the YF cover art was a reduced amount given because he & YF were friends. 15) EVS stated how the fallout from YF revealing the amount hurt his other business relations (oh? You only charged him this? You charged me more!). Plus other fallout - "Well, if EVS charges this then I'm asking this for cover art." EVS stated he will now experience issues doing cover art for others, as well as having others do cover art for him. 16) Between this and other issues, EVS decided to make his Trashcast Live Streams.
