I used to repair a roof next to the Nassau County gun range. I couldn’t see what was going on but there were some pretty heavy duty guns being fired there judging by the sound of it. It’s and industrial type area so the sound bounces of the buildings and echo like crazy. I can’t remember if it was that roof of a different one where I actually found a spent bullet lodged in the roof.

I came here to point this out. We didn’t stop using it because of *that* we stopped because Mag fed MGs are not great in the support role. Just don’t mention some of its replacements :>

@@TheHorzabora I was quite happy being the section gunner when I had to hump the LMG (i.e. the 7.62mm version of the Bren) - & it was very accurate on the range as well. Plus you could stack the mags next to you if you were in a defensive position, giving you 180 rounds in the standard 6 mag loadout - & you could use 20 round FN FAL (i.e. SLR) mags on the LMG in an emergency - & MAG changes were really quick if you were practised. Also, that carry handle folded out to becpme a fore-grip so you could use it in CQB & on the move if you had to . In theory only having 30 rounds in a mag is a problem, but since swapping mags takes about 2 seconds, it was hardly an issue in practice, & when we converted to the GP/MG (the FN MAG, the British version of what the US calls the 240B) I was unimpressed by carrying the extra 10lbs or so, but also by the fact that I couldn't even indulge my juvenile Rambo fantasies because anything more than a 20 round belt hanging down from the feed tray caused stoppages &/or dragged mud & crap into the working parts. You really did need a number 2 working with you to keep the gun firing, & then you could put more rounds down range for longer, but if you were on your own & having to move around, it was a complete liability compered with the LMG. I could shoulder fire an LMG while standing & hit things if I had to, the GP/MG was spray & pray if I wasn't prone & able to aim... Honestly, I think that in practice & in hindsight the LMG was just better for everything except static defence.

Imagine getting all of that ammo for FREE. Man is living the dream and has some bad ass sponsors.

Well, that and it later came out that the then-head honcho of Red Jacket was someone who deserved to be on Chris Hansen's most wanted list.
