It's a "JIS" screw head - Japanese Industry Standard. Most JIS screws will have a small dimple on the head so you can distinguish them from Phillips. They require a JIS driver. If you have a Japanese bike - these are a must-have in your toolkit. Happy Travels!
@vanDeudekom

Jep You ar so on the point. Not many people know about Japanese bikes and the JIS screws and so JIS drivers, they just killing the heads.

@@iPedroMota It’s a learning curve bro, just like checking your oil on a DAILY basis, especially when you’re travelling long distances. Oil starvation is the quickest and easiest way to kill an engine. Three things happen: The oil gets thicker and the contaminants are a greater proportion of the mix, and deposits increase in the oilways - potentially blocking them; The pump struggles to circulate the oil to all the necessary parts of the engine such as the heads, starving the cam bearings and followers; These parts get hotter and wear more quickly. Regular oil changes and maintaining the oil level preserves the life of any engine, and can extend it for decades. It’s a simple rule.

Keeping the algorithm active with comments. 0:45 Occasionally I long for the classic foam and mesh often oil dipped reusable air filters. Clean them out and off, recoat them in oil if required and off you go. Pretty sure I've said this before, but I would be happy to see you in more reflective gear. It's hard to buy for someone, but you might end up listing sponsor on some of your apparel? 3:33 I've noticed that some countries and even some jurisdictions require police attendance at specific or even general accidents. Not sure how it is at that Lithuanian incident, but it seemed a ton of pictures and video could have suffice. 7:15 Something I did in the service and in Japan and Korea is fabricate an almost insignificant utilization of space and weight 'Solar Oven' Reused aluminum disposable baking pans and clear plastic to keep the heat in. Works fantastic even when it's cold (well, assuming you have sunlight). Hey, you can acquire good microbes too.

My Honda ST1100 has travelled 180,000 kms in its life. It used to use/drink semi synthetic oil until I started using full mineral oil and now no oil loss.

@Pedro Mota apart from the obvious worn piston rings or leaks possibility I did have an engine block years ago pressurising cause oil to be pushed past the rings. Cause was a blocked engine breather (PCV valve), but that was a car.

Couldn't figure out who was the injured motorcyclist in that accident. Those European intersections are as scary as the crazy US highway merging on the side, but these are worse, because a vehicle will jump in front of you out of the blue and bam, you're now gelatin . They should really put a stop light there or something.

LOL, "Honda Phillips head." In other words a JIS screwdriver and JIS screw. JIS screwdrivers are da bomb...they quite often work better in American Phillips screws than some Phillips drivers do as well. I keep lots of 'em around. "The difference is in the leading angle of the point of the driver. Phillips bits have a larger angle and therefore don't bottom out in the JIS screws, causing slippage."

I think it's part and parcel for those owning a TA or OG-AT with 75.000+ kilometers on the clock. It's scary eh. A peculiar one for me was in Australia I think, bike at a good angle while front was higher up in the sand noticing "why's the clutch so sticky, why's the cable still slack?" She got a good refill that day.

Well who does not have this one friend with a drinking problem :). My alp 600 1992 also drinks a lot of oil but only if I ride it over 65-70mph. If I am riding 60mph it uses almost nothing. I replaced piston rings and valve seals last winter but that did not fix drinking problem much. Should have done the bore but the cylinders looked ok. Maybe next time as this one I will keep for longer. Love the bike. You are riding 2 people with luggage so I guess this kind of oil consumption might be assumed normal. Honda in manual says that up to 1l is normal oil consumption :).
@iPedroMota
@iPedroMota Год назад
* glugglug * Small engine rebuild on Alp did solve everything though that included new oversized piston rings and pistons (I think, been a while), cleaning the engine heads and cutting out the valve seats, new valves, new seals and new oil chains while in there. Cylinders looked good so nothing done there.

Great idea to clean the filter like that, sadly with my TA 650 you have to remove the tank to access the filter
@iPedroMota
@iPedroMota Год назад
First of all appreciate the Christmas gift mate, thanks for that. Second, that's terrible modern design but no way did I expect it to be like that on the 650 already (had a look at the schematics now). I remember slagging of a bit a Ducati I worked on in Bolivia, moving heaven and earth to get to the air filter. But Honda doing the same thing, damn.
@novicetheaf
@novicetheaf Год назад
@@iPedroMota No worries! It was my pleasure, has been interesting to see Europe on the TA, something I'll have to get around to one of these days! Yeah they moved the air filter to make room for a under seat storage, kinda of handy for tools and stuff but not worth the sacrifice of having an air filter under the thank 😂. It's not the worst to get at, you just unscrew the side fairings and then you can get it off that way but still takes 1 h or so. The Japanese are known for making things dead simple but I guess even they make mistakes sometimes 😂
@G58
@G58 Год назад
@@novicetheaf It’s intentional. Design briefs now include ways of increasing the owner’s dependence upon servicing by the dealership - which of course is one of the major incentives for dealers to take on franchises. It’s a simple business model, but it removes the owner from the equation more and more. Having said all that, motorcycle owners have changed as a breed over the past few years. Most don’t even ride bikes for necessity, but only for leisure, and then only a few miles per year. So, I guess the model fits many riders, just not real ones. Ride safe. Peace
@kcpolog
@kcpolog Год назад
But the flip side of the air filter under the seat is it's less likely to get dirty or suck water. I honestly prefer it this way. It's not that difficult to take the tank off and you have to do it less often
@iPedroMota
@iPedroMota Год назад
Good point, I was wondering that myself since on the 600 the filter can get soaked and/or absolutely clogged with mud. This 96 model has a slightly longer and thinner 'snorkel' at a different angle and it isn't an improvement over the wider shorter one on the 1991 model. Still can get dirty as when offroading.
@G58
