So pleased for that young lad. This is such a good channel lads. So much junk out there yet this is informative, honest and just makes me smile. Keep up the great work. Been watching since you had 30k subscribers and will be when you pass the 1 million mark. 👍
That's such a classic car it deserves to go the right way and what your doing is the right way of forwarding it on to someone who really wants it, and not turning around and flogging it on for more of a profit. Way to go guys.
Great idea, film the people picking up the cars you sell. So long as they don’t mind👍🏼 Be nice to hear where they’re going and how they’re going to be used. 💕
I love these late 90s MG's they are full of character and that has to be the cleanest one I've seen since they rolled out of the factory in the late 90s and I glad that chap is happy with the Subaru
Had exactly that colour MGF for four years in 2005-9. Fantastic car. It needs the suspension pumping up. You are meant to be able to put four fingers between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch. Will undoubtedly need a stainless steel waterway dowels between the head gasket and the block. Unless it was fixed under recall. At 70mph on the motorway it would do about 43mpg. Even thrashed it would not dip below 38 mpg. Great fun car.
You should have entered it into Mathewsons of 'Bangers and Cash' fame, would have been great to see a video with you Derek and you pair. Maybe on the next classic.
Crazy the owner didn't try and sell it nationality. What a Gem. Needs to be cherished. I had an X reg 19000 miles and the head gasket went. Well done guys
I love the Subaru story at the start, and the reactions from both (proud) Dad and lad. We need more positivity and good intentions in the world, this definitely made me smile.
Nice to see the lads reaction at the Scoob 👌 little mgf is a time capsule!! Classic auction is an excellent idea, looking forward to see the footage from there! Have a good weekend guys!! 👍
Love these little MGs.. I've just posted a link to your video in a couple of owners clubs on Facebook, hopefully you'll get a good price. I own a TF version myself and enjoy them, if I bought another I think I might be getting divorced soon!
Ok, tonight, I had the opportunity to put your video on a smart tv, so having a full screen with you both on a 55” TV. confirmed for me, that it would be fundamental that you both get a TV deal, but notwithstanding that, that is the best MG (1998) you will ever find. it’s unbelievable to see a MG in this day in age, this is the one to have. Unbelievable. Love you guys.
One thing that would definitely be worth doing is regassing the Hydragas Displacers (the gas itself, not just the fluid). After around 15 years all of the gas escapes and you end up with rock hard suspension. There is also a rivet in the top where the gas was filled originally which can puncture the diaphragm when they are low on gas. Other than that, it looks as though it's like a new car!
Absolutely love these. 'Borrowed' my mum's MG TF when she was on holiday and swiftly got a speeding ticket. Loved that little thing. Great video as always.
The K series engine gets bad reviews because of the head gasket problem. However , apart from that it's a very good engine and will do big mileage if serviced correctly. The head gasket issue is a very easy one to sort. Remove head, have it skimmed , refit with a shim saver and new MLS gasket , replace the dowels with steel ones, use new head bolts, also new thermostat, water pump and cooling system flush and use 50% antifreeze. This is literally job done, it won't give any further issues..
I agree its a good little engine, i had 2 MG ZR's back in the day, just the 1400 105bhp variant, but I thrashed the lights out of them both, had no issues what so ever.
Hi there...looks amazing...I've got me an MGF Silverstone few months ago...The car got 18'000km on by now...incredible to see cars like these which are about as new, as they were when they rolled form production line. I just love the feel of that tiny car. It just cuts corners perfectly, its handy and the power is enough to have fun with...Even low consumption, which is a bless with the gas prices at the time. K-Series is a Masterpiece. 🔝
Great to see people's reactions to a surprise like that! What a great idea to put the MGF through an auction and it will be great for anyone that gets to meet you two legend's. Look forward to seeing the auction and what you are bidding on.
When I was a teenager in London, (A long time ago) an oap used to advise me that "you never know what's hanging, 'til it drops." He had a 'Sid James laugh,' which was quite amusing and, more importantly, I have discovered over the years that he was absolutely right, even in jest. So, something very, very nice has 'dropped' for you both and I can only say "well done." It's not very often that the 'Fairy Godmother' is on your side.
Loved our MGF, we had an anniversary model, the head gaskets were a bit iffy and were replaced with a Freelander one when they went. good luck with the auction guys .
Not read the comments yet, but I wonder how many head gasket gags are there? Great cars, the vvc is a bit more desirable than the mpi but this is a stunner. Had a few of these and they're massively under rated and great fun, even if the suspension came straight out the metro parts bin!!
I remember working at Longbridge, checking the parts for the MGF wished I could have one. Great video nice to see you both laughing as for once Chris doesn't have to put it on the jig
Brilliant reaction off the youngster - he'll be made up, well done Dad! My dad and best mate surprised me with a BMW328iT M Sport pack they got all the way from Scotland when I was younger and I'll never forget it. That MGF was the last proper MG. But there are so many dogs hanging around, that one's an absolute minter... 'Love Over Gold' is a v good album btw :)
Great video boys, Please please please do a video on the auction. The full day start to finish including meeting the fans, would make for great content to the viewers who can’t make it unfortunately.
When I lived in London I bought a 2002 low mileage MG TF on eBay for a song as it wasn't listed correctly, I sold it when I moved to Portugal in 2018, in hindsight I should have brought it with me. I sold it for 3 times as much to a French guy who drove it all the way home to Paris! I had so much fun driving it and it made me grin as much as you do Rob when you are in the Lambo'. They are great little sports cars and never really got the respect they deserved. This one you've aquired is a superb example.
Amazing find Rob & Chris and in one of my favorite colours (British Racing Green), The only problem I ever found with the colour was, if you looked at it too hard, it would scratch. Therefore, the previous owner has really, really looked after it as there doesn't appear to be a mark on it. 👍
Top work from Dad on the Subaru surprise. As for the MGF what a bobby dazzler! Super unusual with that history and mileage even down to the rubber floor mats and mud flaps. A great treat for an MGF fan and a credit to Peter. Looking forward to hearing the outcome. Sandown Park is a fun place. Treat yourselves to a nice lunch or dinner in Esher whilst you are there. Thank you.
Rob and Chris.I loved mine ,in the time I had it it never let us down.the old girl got to small for us,or I got to old.maybe both.but still love the looks.good luck at the auction.👌
Mathewsons in Pickering would get you the best price. Bangers and cash on yesterday tv channel. You must watch it on tv. It would go for a fortune through them. If you ring them up they will give you a ball park figure it would reach.
Someone will get an incredible car, and hope they keep it undercover for years to come. Your contribution to our motoring heritage. Well done yet again guys 👍👍👍👍👌
Oh well done Rob , delivering that Subaru to that guy. You should've put a red suit on and worn a big white beard. Brilliant entertainment again. That little MGF is a jewel and that auction is going to be so interesting to see, I expect it will do north of £6K good luck
Nice car, a credit to the owner for keeping it in that condition. I find the seller/buyer fees excessive with the Barons & Historics auctioneers. If it doesn't meet your reserve, you may want to consider the online classic car auction run by Bonhams.
@@sruk Yea I think a lot of the time they set the reserve too high, then some basic motors that aren't classics make daft money, yesterday they had a 13k mile Audi A2 make over 9000.
Happy for the young lad. Nice one fellas. I almost wish you were selling the MGF to a museum it’s that mint. Pity about the different tyre. Looking forward to the vid about the auction.
I'm into my MG's and everything you said was spot on! Even the place to auction it! My 'old' MG (got 3) I bought brand new so can understand it would have been a major reason for the original owner to sell it to you, so selling at auction to an enthusiast will alleviate any feelings of loss. 👍
I adore MGs and Rovers of this era. Just watching the video brings back memories of my old Rover 414 and 45, the distinctive K-Series sound and the distinctive indicator tell tale click 😁 Perfect time of year to buy/sell one too If I didn't already have 3 cars and a lack of space for a 4th I'd be all over it myself
Rob & Chris, why don’t you’s do your own auction on this, Let people make offers and the highest bidders wins, No auction fees for yourselves or the buyer. Add the Bids on the comments.
Judging by Rob's reply, I'm guessing he's not enthusiastic! If it's possible to get auction software that can be programmed to start at a certain time, it should be fairly hassle free. Would actually be a fair way to sell the vehicles because it wouldn't exclude those without Instagram or those who couldn't instantly respond when a car is posted. Would also eliminate all the comments about cars being sold too cheaply as they'd find their own value. 😃
Hello Rob and Chris, another excellent video, the dad buying the car for his son and the lovely MGF. You have done these subscribers proud. Looking forward to the next update. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
Rob/Chris thanks for making all these videos; they are always really enjoyable too watch. Can I make a small suggestion? When you are sitting down at the end of the video summarising, sit next to each other rather than Chris being off camera and Rob firing questions to the side. I think it would be better. Keep up the good work and I wish you every success!
I thought if it don't fetch the reserve you could take it to mathewsons auction in thorton le dale north yorkshire. This car im sure it would be the star appearance on bangers & cash tv programme.
The gentleman that owned the car previously deserves a medal for preserving it with love ,. Great video as always lads , Chris always cracks me up with the where’s the change 🤣🤣 fantastic lads thank you 👌👌
This brings back memories - my first car in the UK was a green R reg MGF. Not many around in this condition. This car deserves a good home. Lovely video guys. Thank you!
Hello both, the reaction of the chap with the Subaru Impreza was well happy 😀,it will be a tidy car when it's on the road.the MGF now that is a clean car and hardly been used.the auction will be interesting to see how much it fetches.
What a fantastic start to my weekend. It was cracking seeing the scobie going to the young lad, what a great thing he’s dad did there 👏👏 MG was a stunner. Channel is going from strength to strength
Followed one of those MGFs in BRG with its top down going up the M5 at 80 mph a few years back… its K-series suddenly let go big time and it rolled sadly across to the hard shoulder in a trail of smoke and steam…
Fantastic. Such a gem of a car. I would love to join you there but I live 4,000 miles away in Tanzania. Do well with it gentlemen. Thank you for sharing.
Guys that ones definitely for the museum, I’m sure someone will be there and snap that one up. In all my early years of car fitting I never once worked on one but it brings back memories listening those irritating beeps before you start them up 🤣. Fair play you guys find some rare cars. Good video, keep it up. 👍
Hello Rob & Chris 👋 absolutely brilliant video 👏👏👏 fantastic dad for the first cat and what an amazing MGF!! I’ve never never seen one in that condition as I’ve always thought looking at them as second class!!! Really well done to the original owner he deserves a round of applause 👏
What a find, and respect to the previous owner for how he looked after it. Forwarded the video to an ex colleague who is an MG nut, and has a MGF, who knows - he may bid on it!!
Wow!! Awesome! My first was a ‘72 BGT, loved that car, Crome spoke rims dark metallic blue. Wish they would have sent this version to the US, I’d have one sitting in my garage! The fun driving these is why I drive a ‘14 Mustang GT vert today. Nothing like open air fun! Can’t wait to see you all at the auction!! Cheers from Florida.
Yes, they are still around- I sold my TF after lockdown 1 and got more than i paid for it. My son had a blue Trophy 160 , so ive done a fair bit of work on them- but yours is the MGT- so hydrogas suspetion and probaly the samller engine- which can have benefits. There is an outfit up the A1 that sells only these cars- hes got one like yours but a T160 (The version we have owned with the vvc) 30k on the clock- £12k. He had one about 4 years ago that had silly miles- on it and it was as close to BN- that sold for about £14k from memory. Theres an active Forum MG Rover boards that Im still a meber of and im going to link your video/toutube channel to- they are obviously like me- enthusiasts- a lot are old blokes (like me) but unlike me, they are not all the spanner-weilding type, so its quite funny sometimes readingthe questions 'how do you...?' - i call it Pension Pot cars- bit like Porsche Boxsters...
Amazing car . R reg 12k wow. You've made the right decision with classic auction. My mate sold his mgf last year through auction , made double its reserve , and it'll make a great video 👍
I dont think you have realise what you have done here. Your going to be banned from that auction, 250K SRUK Fans are going to turn it into a car meet mate... LOL Also, im sure theres alot of stigma around head gaskets on the f? Too young of mileage to worry tho. Mate, im so worried for this auction turn out 🤣🤣
Loved the lads reaction to the Subaru. Top Dad, there. The MG is a real time capsule, so clean. I hope you manage to find a tyre as I agree it will make all the difference. I can't wait to see how you do at the auction. I really hope somewhere like Beaulieu will be interested in it.
@@sruk I probably am, but I wouldn't value 1998 dated tyres any more than an original cambelt or oil filter. It doesn't surprise me that no supplier could supply the same tyre. Very good video though and always interesting to see "time warp" cars like this. Have a good weekend all!
