Absolutely brilliant!!! Fantastic video - if everyone was able to keep revisiting and revisiting and revisiting cows with problems, like you did with her aftercare, there would be a hell of a lot more cows cured from lameness - relentless and perseverance with lesions on cows feet is absolutely crucial! Well done Tom and everyone else 👏👏👏👏👏

@@markking4006I was just going to comment, brt thehoofgp could of fixed this with out cutting the foot off. Becausr I've seen u fix what looked like worse than this. But honestly do you think you could of fixed it or was this the only option? I mean I've seen you fix a cows hoof when there bone was falling apart. So I don't get why they had to cut this foot off. I think with it work and antibiotics from a vet this hoof could of been saved. Am I wrong? If so please explain cuz I know nothing about any of this. But one thing is for sure I love your work and your statistics back up how good you are.

I suspect that it's tempting for many farms to look at cows simply as 'economic units of production' and I am sure there has to be an element of that on any farm. However, what attracted me to this channel initially was the episode where Tom was installing a cow brush in the paddock and thoroughly enjoying the cows lining up for their turn. He revelled in their simple enjoyment of this brush and this spoke volumes to me about the relationship between Tom and the animals he husbands. Their welfare is not only an economic issue but also a personal relationship...an issue of mutual trust. More power to you Tom!

Tom, It is important to show life and death on a farm. This went the right way about the subject in hand. As a child I holidayed in Snelson, Cheshire with my aunt and uncle slap bang in the middle of a dairy farm, 180 black & white. As an adult, I had a deli and bought direct from the farm. I landed in one farm when the knackery was in. The farmer was mortified. I sad relax, there is always life and death on a farm. You do a great service and show compassion with how you show your farm on RU-vid. I, for one, appreciate the risk and the effort. Regards, Stephen.

We are sure that the majority of us that follow our famers and their welfare of their livestock would have loved to see the operation. But alas, we understand that you have to ensure that those who have no idea of why this sort of operation has to be done would scream from the rafters why its done. Keep up the good work Tom, we the majority follow your weekly posts and enjoy them.

Wonderful. A lot of people don't realize that a lot goes into what seems like an easy item as milk and cheese. Cows don't just eat grass and give milk. They need to be attended to and cared for when injuries and illness arises. And takes a good farmer to recognize when his animals are in need. I am glad to see that the cow is doing good with the toe gone and cute calf. It would be a shame to have lost her.

If she's lactating then she needs regular drainage of her udders. It's very painful if they get full of milk without relief. Nursing is the best way to empty the udder completely. Her milk is worthless for commercial purposes right now because most medications pass into the milk.

Amazing video Tom, Andy is an amazing vet, who is clearly proud of the job he does and is very happy to explain what he is doing, why he is doing it, and the best thing of all is the cow is more comfortable, in no pain, it is horrible to see any animal in pain, we had our Lacey put down after she was diagnosed with cancer 9 months ago, the vet said straight after the he diagnosed her to put her down straight away, we refused because at the time she was her normal, happy healthy self, we continued to see the vet over 7 months ( every two or three weeks ), until finally she got so ill that we had not choice but to ease her suffering, it broke my heart doing it as she was an amazing dog, who used to follow my grandkids as toddlers around and if she felt they where about to fall she would run behind them for them to fall onto her and not injure themselfs, she would always protect them, even sitting here now typing this up, im starting to well up over her, she was 10yrs old when she passed, lived with me since she was 8 weeks old, she was a gross between a labrador and a spinger spaniel.

Once the infection and pain are gone they must feel a lot better as they soon get the appetite back , milks comes back up. They put on condition and go on to have a full and productive life.

It was great to see all the progress in one video and see how well the cow is now walking. I think people that aren’t farmer sometimes don’t realize how much it cost to get that out to take care of that tow the time in the effort you have to spend with the cow on top of that one on one attention not just on that day but for several days and weeks and months to ensure the health of the Cal while still taking care of the other hundred plus Cows. This is where I see Tom as a true farmer not as a business because from a business standpoint the money and effort don’t make sense for a single cow however for a farmer the happiness of the cow and what the cow has given his family already is worth every effort to ensure the cow has a long and happy life. be well be you

I remember reading All creatures Great and Small in the 70's when James Herriot had to strongly convince the farmer of an emaciated cow of this procedure. It was before antibiotics, and only the digit was involved. The farmer was horrified the cow was going to only have "one peg." James convinced him not to call the knacker, did the surgery, and the cow recovered. Very best outcome. 🐂 ❤

Love this video. When you have animals you can really appreciate what it’s like to go through vet visits and treat a sick animal. ❤ Hope Jo and Harvey are OK and Jo is recovering well.
