If you have no safety wire, mark every fastener with a paint stripe, so during your walk-around inspection, you'll immediately see if anything has come loose. I'd still try to wire everything.

Need to put a chain hoist in there. Or a winch on a roller beam. With a wireless remote. For future maintenance

Cleetus, 🇺🇸🦅✈️ I have several friends that fly and compete in the STOL competitions. You definitely need to put VG’s on the leading edge of the wing (Vortex Generators). It will greatly improve Controllability at slow airspeeds and Reduce the Stall Speed of the Aircraft. This will allow you a slower approach speed. The slower stall speed can yield a higher takeoff weight, thus improving the useful load of the Aircraft. They just glue on the wing with a special compound. But you need to place them in just the right spot for them to be most effective. They really help control the Aircraft at slow speeds when you are in ground effect. I just finished my ground school and working on my flight hours to become a LSA Pilot. I’m going to be building a Experimental STOL Aircraft from a kit. I really hope you start competing in the different STOL events. Once I feel comfortable with my abilities as a Pilot I hope to see you out there. Respond to this comment if you want me to hook you up with some guys that compete in STOL events close to you. They can give you some tips and tricks like where to place the VG’s. Leave me your email and I will pass it along to them. Love the new main gear and wheels. Be careful when you first try those new brakes, they change the whole landing. You can anodize titanium easily. You can get a really strong gold color too which would work with the cub. Look up gold anodized titanium.

First of all, loving the aviation content as im an aircraft mechanic by trade and gear head on the side! Blessed to have this mix of content! But as a licenced mechanic under Transport Canada and the FAA with a start on planes just like this to my current job building advance agressor jets I have two pieces of advice for this job. Hardware that can be safetied with safety wire is a must, I have seen quite a bit of shit that has loosend up but the safety wire has kept it from backing off. And for anything else hardware wise, use torque strip on the hardware so you can routinely check to make sure its not backing off on you! The second thing is, dont use beed soap on a tubed tire, you want a dry beed! Especially on a bush tire like that running low psi. You dont want the beed to slip on ya and cause blow out from FOD on the tube of chafe the tube over time causing a flat. Instead use talc or baby powder all inside the tire around the tube and on the beed! Keep up the great content, wrench safe, and fly high!

Would be cool to see you do some back country bush flying with this thing! Flying to Idaho or something at 100mph might take a minute though lol

Serious question, how much of this type of work are you allowed to do without having your a&p, or having an a&p present to supervise the work. My understanding is that you are only allowed to do preventative maintenance as an owner w/o your a&p.

Should clear coat them with powder coating. Same thing Murder nova did with his cage and looks sick plus makes upkeep super easy.

my plane (composite Remos G3 Mirage Light Sport) has lift points where the gear meets the fuselage. I use a HF Jack on roller wheels with a spreader bar from HF to jack it up.

Not for nothing, but all that new gear would be mint in black.

Watch out lifting with the forks on an angle tilted like that. If/when that strap slips, the load will move till the strap stops at the end of the forks. Don’t want the aircraft hitting anything. Try to. Level the forks. Love everything Cleet! 🇺🇸

Legally you are not allowed to install that yourself. Even though your plane is an experimental home built, you must be the builder of the plane in order to be able to work on your own plane legaly. I absolutely hate being that guy but you are violating a FAR on camera to millions of people.

Hey boys, I highly suggest finding a local A&P to help assist & supervise you in bigger projects like this. I have full confidence that you guys can accomplish the work correctly but just because you can doesn't mean you should. 14 CFR Part 43 Appendix A, Part C lists what preventative maintenance you as an owner/operator are allowed to do. Last thing we all want is the FAA smacking you with fines. Find a local dude to come to the shop to supervise & help in addition to signing off your work in the logbook! I have my A&P and would gladly come down to help if yall ever need it. On another note, looks killer and can't wait to see what the progression of the Cub! Super stoked about the aviation content yall are creating.

When fitting seals to the big jets control surfaces I used to work on, a few little ties with lockwire were always applied to affix them snug. I'm no cub or even light/prop guy, but stuffing those seals in with nothing doesn't seem right to me. Check what's best practice with a more relevant A&P mech. Ti kit and brakes and wheels look beautifully engineered and made. Very impressed!

If you need to lift that plane, you should put a lift in the rafters of that hangar. I have a winch in my garage for lifting the top off of my Jeep, and it works great! You could do the same for that plane. Lower it to hook on, lift it up, do the work, and drop it back down.
