I worked on an Alpaca farm for 8 years. Your better off finding someone that can ultra sound. Some females will lay down at different times of pregnancy. Some females have issues getting pregnant especially if they are open too long. I've experienced females to have more issues with fertility than males. We kept the males separate from the females and rechecked for spit offs every 10 days. The vet from Ohio state would come out every 60 days to ultra sound. We also wormed every month rotating between types of wormier. Have free choice Alpaca minerals and feed alpaca feed with moistened beet pulp to help the some gain weight. Love the content you put out and I love Isaac's horns are beautiful.

Daniel, having that best friend/co-worker everyday to wake up to is an absolute awesome asset. Knowing when to evoke a response takes great wisdom and resolve flavored with discerning terpetude. Blessings and peace as you look for an answer concerning a tractor or Trac skid steer. (opinion)... A skid steer will provide you with more options implement versatility and a cabin. I would still have the extra hydraulic connections added to the front and back of the Deere. Blessings to you and your family with health, strength, safety and success. ☝️🙏🙌✝️🇺🇸🎯

I would look up the local alpaca breeders and give them a call and see what they have to say. While your vet is really good you may want to find one that is more familiar with alpacas and the breeders of alpacas would have a vet specific to that animal. I would say from your observation Rufous may have a problem doing his job. It is possible that his age is catching up with him or he may need some supplement. Good Luck.

With the alpacas, having a second male will not hurt, and may in fact spur them into action, cause a competition between the two resulting in better performances. As for the goats, dehorning may be the best / cheapest option. As without horns they have no leverage to lift the fencing. An electric fencing, 2 lines, 1 about ankle height, the other about knee height. The other is new fencing. Single strand wire. Goats need lots of self amusement to keep out of trouble, stacking a few pallets into a pyramid, balance beams and ramps. Even platforms with ramps will help. Hope these ideas can be of help. And I’m sure the wife will answer your impertinent question when…. she starts enjoying working with her best friend….

I’m not a raiser of alpacas, however we do raise rabbits along with poultry. And I do believe it’s possible, just as it is in rabbits for them to go sterile when the temperature gets too high. With the hot summer this year we had that issue. Perhaps it’s the same. See if it takes after the temperature gets below 80° Just a thought.

Put insulators on those t-bars about six inches off the ground, run a yellow electric wire on the side the goats are on and energize it. That will stop Isaac from getting under the fence, and will likely keep the rest of the goats away from the fence as well.

Alpacas are pack animals so if you were to have an additional male they wouldn’t fight but would become friends as the girls will be accompanied by their babies when they are born. We learned that the hard way and nearly lost our male to heartbreak from loneliness when his lady had a baby and no longer wanted a friend. Also; did you know the alpacas LOVE the water? Get the garden hose out and they’ll have tons of fun!!

To keep the goats from going under the fence, pap would cut some 3/8 rebar in 20ish inch lengths, heat with a torch and bend them into a u or v shape. Then he’d place one u stake between every set of posts, staking the bottom wire to the ground. He’d leave about 1-2” of the stake above ground so the wire didn’t set on the ground and you could easily weedeat under it…

It looks like that old field fencing has past its prime but will new do the job with keeping the goats in their pen. Maybe try just some regular chain link. The goats might be able to stick their horns into it but not their heads. The areas where the goats are lifting up, maybe try adding an extra t-post in-between and put extra wire ties on them. Good luck.
