'We have no intent of paying the ransom': Cleveland says it will not negotiate with cyberattackers 

There's no "head of IT" to respond to your requests because Cleveland has not had one for 2 months. He up and quit, and HR department was "improved" with millions of dollars, and filling open positions was supposed to happen faster as a result, yet THE POSITION IS STILL OPEN. Perhaps the guy that quit knew the City won't take the steps necessary to defend against such an attack and knew it was only a matter of time? It would be nice to hear from that person exactly why they left.

Businesses have been using backups that runs in the background on a separate server for decades. Why can't govt do that?

No it is not just part of life in 2024 it is life in a town run as poorly as Cleveland. The smell of this corruption can be witnessed a thousand miles away

Just restore the devices from before the attack...simple as that....but that assumes good systems operations...
