👍thanks for sharing your day 👍 maybe a used tractor tire to space the interior of the spool and a small lawnmower rim to be a guide for the outgoing side that moves for different radius feeds 👍

DP, just a suggestion, the eyes that the pipe travel through could be turned at a 45 degree angle so the pipe won't chaff when it exits the roll.

Where I'm at you have to cover it with blue stone dust And the waterline Crossing that road should be inside of a conduit especially if that section of road is going to get Asphalt in the future or a culvert pipe that way you only have to dig up the end of the culvert pipe and you can slide a new piece through

Great, buuut. I would have hit each water line with different color spray paints every meter or so. Just a burst of paint from a spray can or gadget attached to the uncoiler. Red. Green. Black. White. And I would do two other things: run two fiber optic lines in the trench for future use and a metal tracer wire for when locating needs to be done someday years from now. Optionally, run a fifth water line as a spare. Running the pipes with colors means no need to do all that work to keep them apart. But all I know about trenching was running satellite TV coax under a road. Needed two lines. I ran four in conduit so it could all be used for upgrades and included a nylon rope so it could be refished if ever needed. Each coax got its own color of zip tie every meter or so but not tied to each other. It ended up being super useful when that site upgraded to bigger sat dishes with multiple feeds. Every coax was marked and easy to find.

Hi Guys . I just laid out over 7 miles of pipe. 2inch and 1 3/4 pipe. put some adjustable arms on the spinner to keep the pipe tight on the spinner. The more the coil moves the worse it uncoils. also have the feed out guide facing the direction you are laying the pipe as this will reduce the chance of bending the pipe.

Man, I feel for Matt, when my back is out, climbing on and off a tractor is about the worst. I'm waiting to see the ripper action, seen them on a lot of machines, but even growing up in the Texas hill country, I've never seen one actually used. (Seen a lot of pipeline trenches loosened with explosives, but never a ripper on a dozer.)

Seeing you down and in the trench gives me the “willies.” I was working a summer construction job in northern Minnesota laying in sewer tile. We were about 15 feet deep. The backhoe operator was digging the trench, another guy was laying the clay sewer tile and my job was to chip away at the sides of the trench and to put enough soil on each tile to hold it in place. The soil was probably 60/40 sand and clay. There was no shoring. This was in 1957, before OSHA , I believe.. I saw the trench begin to cave in where the guy was laying the tile..I was about 20 feet behind him. I heard someone yell, “cave in..run,” so I turned around and ran for the ladder which was about 50 feet away and scrambled out of there. They put a rope around the man’s shoulders and pulled him out of the hole. It all happened so fast. I guess they pulled him a part because he died died on the scene. When I came home from work early, my mother asked why I was home so early..I told her what happened and that was my last day on the job, which was actually my first day. This was between my freshman and my sophomore year in college, so I was 19 years old. I never did get paid for that day..$ 1.00 per hour..and that’s ok..blood money? No no.

just a suggestion.. colored electrical tape (or heat shrink tubing) does wonders on keeping wires and water pipes that are of the same color easily identified on multiple runs bundled together on long runs keeping the guess work to a minimum.

@lt1nut
@lt1nut 2 года назад
Things I've done or seen used for marking line, wire, tubing, hoses, etc: 🔘 Different colors/types/sizes of tape and/or zip-ties, different number/combination of each per water line, any way to differentiate 3 of the lines. 🔘 Bandaids, boot laces, electric wire, plastic bag, glove (or parts of one), a length of the same line slit lengthwise and slid over/around the line, paint, insulation, rag, coffee cup, dabs of adhesive/glue/grease, cuts/notches/slices in the end of the line, anything you can come up with until another guy/truck/day arrives. 🔘 Anything that can help save aggravation and time until you can get something more permanent on it will work. YES, I, and other subs/contractors, have come up short of a needed supply many times over the last 40 years. Bring out 'your' inner McGyver, laugh, and be proud of your 'field expediency'.

Another great video with you and Matt. I have two suggestions for your waterline roller now that I’ve seen it in action. Maybe add some short risers to the outside spokes to keep the waterline from getting under them. And put some type of pulley where you have the eye that the waterline feeds through to keep from fraying the pipe as it feeds through it. It seems to be working fine like it is except for the waterline getting frayed a little bit. Just heating below the eye and turning it at an angle might help. Or grinding down the cleats of the re-bar to keep them from scratching the pipe as it feeds through. Just a couple suggestion.

Mike I've read some good suggestions in the comments abort the pipe feed. Pull them feed eyes off the spooler and replace em with rollers like a winch fairhead. Two flat bars top n bottom. Steel bar with a bit of steel pipe slid over as a roller one side welded top n bottom and then a few holes through the top n bottom plate and a hitch pin with a piece of steel pipe as the roller through whichever hole fits the pipe diameter best. It's adjustable and the pipe won't hang up on it. 😉

Turning the guides diagonal or change them to a 24" long 2" dia pipe would help feed the line from the front towards the back and to the side easier. Plus some adaptor sleeves for different inner coil sizes with slot eyes on the bottom to lock onto the rebar keep them from popping out. To keep your coils centered.🤔👍

The rings where the pipe passes through should be adjustable so you can angle them depending on the direction you are traveling. If you cut them off and put them on a section of pipe that fits over the rebar with grub screws you can adust the angle when needed.

the home made hose roller worked pretty damned well. you mentioned tweaking it a bit, and I'm sure you prob thought of this. noticed as unrolling was a sort of spring effect. was thinking maybe a T handle welded to hub nut would give operator to adjust rotation tension as needed. hub such a low speed really don't need to worry about sealing and keeping free of debris.

@Dirt Perfect If separating the pipe is only for identification, you can use different colored spray paint and mark each roll before unrolling. We used to do that with wire spools and you can identify them all the way. The way you separated them is nice though. Killer job overall as well.
