I live in Iowa too! I don’t grow my own sweet corn because I don’t have enough space, but the guy we get our corn from plants peaches and cream and it is the best! I buy 5or 6 dozen ears 3 or 4 times a summer and can it so I have a little taste of summer in those frigid winter months. Yum!

He has most everything listed very well on his playlist. They now live in Florida, but his playlist on garlic will be when they were still in Virginia. ......you won't go wrong watching Hollis. ....He started as a farmer years ago. ....I'm so happy for you both!

I harvest hardneck, can't braid. I layer the bulbs, tie them by the bulbs, 4 a piece, hang them upside down (bulbs up top) in a shaded spot under my porch that gets no sun to cure for 3 weeks. Three yrs now. Works great. God Bless.

Our favorite way to store corn and cook it is in the husk. Just toss it in the freezer. When you want some don't bother to thaw or shuk. Put directly on the BBQ, toss into the microwave, or the oven. Have paper towels handy to use to shuk your cob at your plate. Having a brown paper bag next to each chair makes an easy way to get the corn husks, cobs, and paper towels to the compost pile.

Hello Stivers family farm!! You're video came on today (06/11/20) and I planted my corn today! Now my garden is done and all I have to do is harvest and water!! Yeah! LOL. I wanted to remind you that planting corn in a raised bed is different than row planting in the groud. So, I think you did fine with your 3 rows. I planted in a ground level bed in garden soil. I planted 8" spacing and 8" between rows for a total of 60 seeds. So, in August or Sept I'l harvest all 60 plants with about 2 cobs per stalk!! Good growing and God bless you. Jerry.

Like real sweet corn, you will want to try the peaches and cream if you can find it. It grows well in Kentucky. Also, there is a type called Golden Queen. It is sweet and yellow. The peaches and cream is a mixture of yellow and white kernels. We have grown all of these in Kentucky. I have only grown corn in the ground because we had a big crop growing. The more rolls you have the better the bees can cross-pollinate.

You might want to save those bulblets hanging off the roots to plant. They will each grow a small round bulb next season. Those smaller bulbs when replanted will mostly grow into full-sized garlic head in the following season. It takes a little patience, but is a great way to multiply your garlic and not have to keep on buying seed garlic.

I was told elephant garlic takes two years to grow. Plant the clove Let it grow and die back Pull it (it will be one giant clove) Replant the following fall and harvest the following spring/summer. Then it will turn into a bulb with multiple cloves. On a side note you should cut and dry the greens to use for soups and whatnot (same goes for onion greens)

Try roasting garlic. It makes it mild & kind of sweet. To roast, just drizzle with oil & put in the oven. Roast until the heads are soft. Cut the top off the head & just squeeze the cloves out. I roast a bunch of heads at the same time. I put it in a jar & cover with oil & keep it in the fridge. It keeps for a long time. You can also use the garlic infused oil in dishes. I use it in all kinds of dishes. It’s also wonderful spread on a piece of toast. I think you’ll really love it. Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱🇺🇸👍❤️😊🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hey guys you got a Kansas girl here representing all of this horrible wind. Night before last it took about three-quarters of my plants that are in containers For all over the backyard. But thank God it didn't get my largest tomato plant which is gorgeous. I have what I call Minnie Garden all over my yard because I live in a manufactured home park. Only problem is is this used to be a fleet field which really sucks because I tried everything in my power yesterday to get my post hole diggers into the dirt and it wouldn't budge so now I'm soaking all of my yard completely so that way it can get some moisture down into it.. this is the time I wish they lived in the country or was at least double to have chickens here in a chicken tractor that I can move around my yard. But I could just see how the landlords would have a cow over that one LOL. Protect yourself from this Kansas winds they can be quite treacherous. It was actually a family was pulling an RV when winds caused a deadly crash. Take care and

Roast some in the oven and freeze them. I take them out of the skin, put them in a container and pour olive oil over them to cover. Then I pop a clove out to use when cooking. There is nothing better than roasted garlic. Cut some of the top off put it on a piece of aluminum foil, pour olive oil over it, make it into a ball, put in a 425 degree oven for around 20 minutes. Beyond delicious! It's sweet and yummy!

Don't feel bad you are only planting 1 variety. You will have much better results that way as corn produces best when planted in blocks instead of long rows. You won't have cross-germination with other varieties this way either. You can also plant beans inbetween the corn. Corn takes up a lot of nitrogen and beans add nitrogen back into the soil. I am planting my pole beans with my corn for natural trellising.

I was watching a video yesterday about someone that plants their corn in blocks instead of rows and says that it pollinates better that way because it is wind pollinated so leaving less room between them means that more pollinates. I think in a 4x4 ft row they grew 12x12=144 plants. I can't remember whose video it was though... I'll see if I can find it again and post back.

I really think Jen that you should try and can some of that and chopped their very chop it up like put in your blender on top and then dump it in the smart the smallest charge you got and just water bath until their Shields and store them wherever in a cool place or even in your fridge because of you leave amount you try to leave them out my experience with garlic is it dries itself out and if you leave it outside make sure it doesn't get wet because then it'll grow mold within the layers you don't want that but congratulations they're beautiful

I started my popcorn corn, 2 types, in my greenhouse. I planted them outside in my raised beds last week. They were 2 ft tall when I finally got them in.

NICE HARVEST!!!!!! just incase you didnt know. Elaphant garlic is not as strong because it is like you said more like a leek. It may not make good garlic powder You can do 4 rows of corn in that bed :) I plant my sweet corn 10 inches apart.

Dang you guys with all those seeds I highly suggest you go to Goodwill by an old filing cabinet and some Manila hanging file folders and put your seeds in alphabetical or monthly planting order to make your life easy because you have a lot

I make and use calendula salve, comfrey salve. Have you ever considered packaging dried crumbled comfrey with instruction for a poultice for strains, sprains and bruises?

Those bulbs on the top are called garlic skates I believe and they are edible fried in some butter, Per Jess from “Roots and Refuge” RU-vid channel

Golden Bantem Corn is a good choice. I live in Oregon on the coast and our family has grown the type for years. You’ll be pleased.

That's great you are hitting your stride with the production shipping and all that. Looking forward to see how those luffa soups turn out. Nice harvest on that Elephant Garlic. and glad it was so encouraging for you. Did you clean the bed of the little garlic bulblets? If not they will sprout for next year and it will take a couple years for them to reach a good harvesting size. I know it seems I could never get them all and had them sprouting up after I was sure I'd gotten all of them, Happened every time without fail. Just so you know...lol. Elephant garlic as a wonderful perennial and regenerative food source. I'm hoping you corn will be a big success for you guys. The kids will really enjoy it. I remember it was one of our favorites from our garden growing up. Dad always let us help too, so we looked forward to those fresh sweet ears of corn from the garden for dinner. even more. We could hear the corn squeek as it grew too. Yup...it grows so fast it makes noise.
