I am not talking for every Railfan out there, But I enjoy seeing something on the tracks. IE Maintenance of way equipment working, Sperry rail Service, or even a rail laying crew dropping rail. I enjoy the days I set along side the tracks talking with other Railfans and watching what goes by. Lets go Sperry Rail Service and Thank you for keeping the rails safe.

For me rail maintenance vehicles are some of the coolest rail vehicles.
@1121494
@1121494 13 дней назад
@@Kishanth.J Yeah. Seeing maintenance vehicles is something way more rare than regular rolling stock, and usually reserved for the night hours, while train services go at least every hour each at minimum. Do Foamers really randomly pick defunct alignments to wait for a train to show up? Maybe also using trains as passenger yourself could help you be more familiar with knowing and identifying active lines around you. I mean, those tracks appear to not even be electrified yet, of course it's not going to see much activity!

Ed King once had an article in Trains Magazine called "The Damn Sperry Car". He wrote about how the presence of the Sperry Car would tie things up big time. Of course, he recognized the importance of the service, but many times had to deal with the effects as both a tower operator and dispatcher.

I love this truck actually makes me happy to know the railroad cares about the safety of the tracks and that we'll see trains on that track for years to come. Because i'd rather not see a derailment and close the line down for good.

I recognized the name Sperry so I looked up its provenance and my theory was correct. The same Elmer Sperry who founded this company created the gyro compass, And his company would outlive him to create a lot of amazing electromechanical devices that were used in world war II. Like the famous Sperry ball turret on the bottom of the B-17.

As a lot of railfans are also model railroaders, one could model this and use it to disrupt a operation session. I'm never upset to Sperry doing their job, or any of the many rail grinding operations making every thing safe.

Thanks! Nice to see the VIA train and the former UP business car on the tail of the Amtrak consist. It was a nice surprise to see a Santa Fe blue-and-yellow warbonnet in June 2024. I grew up in UP territory and I remember seeing the railroad-owned hi-rail vehicles that were converted GM Suburbans. This was in the era of the Sperry Railcar that was doodlebug sized, and I don’t think I ever saw one. Had I been older I would have at least known what to watch and what to look for in the yard I would visit.

Promontory Point is the peninsula that sticks out into the Great Salt Lake. The joining of the transcon in 1869 happened well north at Promontory, aka Promontory Summit. Promontory Point DID get the transcon in 1904 with the completion of the Lucin Cutoff. All this and more may be learnt with a trip to the Golden Spike National Historical Park, just five miles away from the middle of nowhere (or so they told me).

I'm glad the Houston cams are back. Just hours before Hurricane Beryl I was at the Sampson street crossing and I videoed a grain train with one grainger with the "White Ninja" painted on the side of the fifth grainer. Rare to find, another RU-vid Guy in Pennsylvania catches them often. It's in my last video on my channel if you wanna see.

5:48 I recall seeing that trainset come through Griffith, IN (downstream on the CSX Elsdon Sub) I don't have a picture to look at but I think it stayed on the Elsdon Sub to Griffith where it joined the CN South Bend Sub to go to Canada. Great recap!

Watching Japanese train videos (from the passenger train) has excellent views of the country, mountains, tunnels, rivers. But it's amusing that on some routes, there 1~5 railfans at stations and rail crossings taking pictures. Some of their pedestrian crossings have bars that come down. try in: Aunz railfan rural to start. There isn't many such videos from USA trains in comparison. PS: This video on the yellow truck is neat, showing the defects of the rail etc. Cheaper than having a derailment.

Nice catch with the Sperry truck. Good explanation of what it was doing and how it works. Nice mention of the Pulman car on the Amtrak train at the end of the video - although, it would have been nice if you would have explained/described why it was pushing backwards and where it was going.

Don’t worry the feeling is mutual…. We don’t care to see rail fans photographing us while we work or even worse trying to board the equipment to get a peek inside. Otherwise this was a very informative video. 17 years running the Yellow Bus of Death, as the Pittsburgh East Dispatcher calls it, and I even learned something from it. Even featured two units I have ran … 756 before the upgrade and 859.

The Golden Spike ceremony on May 10, 1869 was held at Promontory SUMMIT, not Point, which is the spit of land that sticks out into the Great Salt Lake, and was never a point on the original transcontinental railroad.

That "current generation" of ford "truck" doesnt even belong on the highway much less disgracing railways with its presence too. I think the only people who dont hate those things are mechanics that get paid hourly to service them.

Sperry is a world wide company. Others like Herzog, Dapco, Hollan and others are vital. There are companies that inspect and analyze ties too. Geometry trains are interesting too.
