Yeah I thought the lack of a chapter ring/engraved rehaut made the diver look a bit plain on the face. This one is much nicer, I'll have to consider it!
same I have too many divers and it didn't really appeal, I've had to resort to modding my own watches to get a nice purple fume dial - missed out on the Direnzo (but got the orange). The purple and orange fume ones are spectacular - I'll be getting both!
Not sure Helm ownership affects the Origin because it was a pretty unique piece. This kind of watch is struggling in design and dimensions by comparison IMO. The Tissot Gentleman would be my choice, but the Blue Helix on the ‘O’ bracelet looks tempting. 40/21 or 39/21 just looks so much better with better taper to a bigger clasp. MicroBrands and neigh sayers struggle with this currently, but feel they will catch up eventually.
Jody, for years I have been asking why watchmakers can't simply take the best features of all their models and make one perfect watch. I believe the Ascent just answered my question. In a word: Gorgeous! Best of luck with this new model.
Stupid comment. The best features are always in the eye of the beholder. I don't prefer 39mm watches. I prefer 36mm. We each have preferences and watch companies cater to what they think their audience would prefer. If you head over to a Zelos group you'll find most fans prefer a 41+mm watch, titanium (at a minimum), and excessive lume.
@@maverick8756 only jesting my good earth neighbor, and happy you took it as a egg joke as I intended cheers brother now give someone else a giggle or smile and pass it on, we need more happiness in this world..cheers .
Another point of view: When I showed my non-watch friends the display case back of my Alpinist, they said "Pity you can't see it when you're wearing it." They just didn't care. Indeed, besides a good geometry and a good seal, the back is most of the time irrelevant.
@@vaclav_fejt there’s a reason why Rolex hasn’t been doing display backs. It’s unnecessary and a brushed finish is just more comfortable. I don’t like display case backs because when my wrist sweats it ends up looking super nasty.
@@Dialandhands This is just silly - mechanical watches are already unnecessary as a whole, so why cover up a beautiful movement? Arguably the whole point of the watch. I pin that on rolex being rolex and just resting on their laurels.
@@Nintendo0994 no truly I prefer a brushed caseback. It’s more comfortable. When my wrist sweats it sticks to the glossy finish and won’t like it slide up and down my wrist so if I have my choice I’m getting a closed case back every time…unless it’s a chronograph where you can see the mechanism a little more and see it activate🙈
The Ascent is outstanding! I can't find a single aspect of the watch I would be unhappy with. It ticks all of my boxes - curved polished surfaces with bevelled edges, good size (39mm), good movement, applied markers and logo, and a superb selection of dial surfaces and colours. Well done Jody and Steven!
You really did it this time Jody. You just made a benchmark that other micro brands should strive for. Your first watch was beautiful, simple and functional. Your second release just whacked the ball from a par 5 to a hole in one. Out frickin standing! You and your partner not only made a product that that stands apart in quality and value but also the gorgeous dial design options are sick. I’m new to the watch world and caught the bug a few years ago. I glad you found a voice of your love for watches and turned that passion into something you should be very proud of. Bravo!!
4.5k views in the first hour ! You can tell there was a lot of anticipation going on. Well done gentlemen.... a truly outstanding offering. How about a 3, 6, 9 GADA next time ?
I love the way you even pointed out the negatives...really breeds confidence in your integrity. All variants look fantastic & I'm not even going to add "for the price point" because they just look great fullstop!
THIS is what the revival of King Seiko should have looked like. The design language of the ASCENT is clearly inspired by Taro Tanaka's original vision for Seiko and contemporary Grand Seiko, with the flat polyhedral side profile and lugs, the high polish hands and markers, the case finishing and the exquisite dials. The main problem with the new King Seiko was they lacked the appropriate movement, and this is where EREBUS swoops in. Having a 4Hz movement with accuracy around 7 seconds per day is what the Seiko of old would have done back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, when they were absolutely MOGGING the rest of the watch industry. The bracelet integration and clasp, and overall quality is simply extra credit at this point. This watch truly seems to tick all of the boxes, Jody. Well done. This would fit perfectly in between the Presage and the Grand Seiko/ European COSC watches, especially with accuracy of the Miyota 9015. Any established brand would sell this watch for no less than $1500 retail, and that's being conservative.
@@McMaxW You're absolutely right - but it also costs at least 5x more. And the movement is 3hz and less accurate in comparison. Anyways when I see this watch from afar it literally screams king/grand seiko
@@af8828 I think the 6R on a KS was the biggest FU from Seiko to their fan base, ever. What a shame. I owned a 6R baby Alpinist and I was disappointed. Currently I no longer own a single Seiko in my collection... I do own a SBGX261 and I'm not gonna lie, I almost feel like selling to get one of these and keep the change lol
@@El1988Che It would be hard to tell the difference from anywhere further than arms length haha but ofc the GS has a different level of refinement. I think for all their recent faults, Seiko and GS in general have something really special with their heritage lines. I just wish the King Seiko was given a movement that matches the rest of the watch and I'd happily buy it - the case and dials and bracelet were all very good for the price imo.
The literal only thing holding me back from an instant buy right now (the orange sunburst as of typing). Jody basically sold me my Chronomaster and I really don't want to go back to mechanical if I can avoid it. Still might though because this watch is a stunner.
Beyond honoured to be among such prestigious reviewers that will be reviewing this watch!! Congratulations Jody, these look spectacular! Can't wait to have it on the wrist 😍. Again thank you for the opportunity!
Calm down people he's just happy to see someone in his space doing good and starting a successful business. The watch community is usually a good one, dont muck it up.
@@trevorgray4852 thank you so much 👍👍. I'm excited for Jody and that he counted my humble channel among such monsters of RU-vid, that's all. I will absolutely do positives AND negatives on this watch, just on paper I can already think of a few
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Aqua Terra meets Sarb with a sprinkle of GS at an amazing price without in any way being a ripoff. Many, many congratulations.
This feels like the culmination of all your knowledge in looking at every watch in this price range over the years n your channel. you really did combine all the best features to produce something that does look far more expensive than it is. Congrats!
Any time I saw a negative review of the Origin on RU-vid, specifically criticizing its “blandness,” I clapped back 😂. I don’t think many people understand or appreciated the mass appeal of the Erebus Origin. Being the proud owner of “a jillion” divers it just wasn’t for me, but I had zero doubts that your sophomore piece would be a banger. Congratulations Jody and Mr. P. I blew through my 2024 watch budget in Q4 of last year, but this release has me thinking, “just one more watch” 😉.
Well well well ...I wasn't really enamered by the diver Jody but this release looks so well thought out. I have ordered the burnt orange on a Jubilee style. This is what Seiko should have made as an update to their SNXS and it puts them to shame. Simply stunning.
Right on, the Miyota 9000 series are my favorite for micro brands. And the dials are fire, especially the mineral ones. Found them to beautiful not to get. So I ordered them both
@ Jody (ir you read this) what is the crystal size? Everyone is focusing on case diameter which is just a part of the story, isn't it? I have Hamilton Khaki Field automatic 42mm and Cronos Subby of pretty much the same size, but the feel is completely different as the bezel to dial proportion plays a big role, so is the bezel to case proportions. I spent the last 2 days with callipers measuring all of my watches and scratching my head - is Ascent too small or will it match my gargantuan wrists???
I had a few problems with the Origin watch, but the Ascent simply left me speechless. Every dial is stunning. I can't decide between the purple, the purple spiral and the orange. Even the plain black looks gorgeus, and both bracelets are beautiful (I have to order both). I think I'm going to have to sleep on it. 😍
Jody, being a proud Scotsman, I thought you would be the blue dial guy? Congratulations on this beautiful piece. It sure does have a lot going for it. The rootbeer coloured dial is very tempting for me, especially with a J bracelet. Well done guys.
The Ascent is a triumph. Everything a watch lover would want in a GADA sports watch! How satisfying it must be to produce something that good looking with the specs and design features you’ve been asking for from other watch producers over all these years. Well done. I don’t have to wish you success, i already know it’s going to be a massive hit and you’ll sell out!
Jodi, as I watched your video, I was looking for something that would turn me off from this watch. But I couldn't. You absolutely nailed every concern of mine. Dials - check, hands - 2 checks, movement - check, case finishing - check, bracelet - check, clasp - check, lume - check, AR coating - check, fit - check, look on the wrist - check, price - 2 checks. I literally couldn't complain about anything. Why can't the big brands do what you are doing? I'm amazed that I always find something from them that turns me off from their watches. Well done. You absolutely hit it out of the park! Might I be smelling a GMT in the near future?
Meanwhile Seiko has 'de-contented ' its sub $600 offerings. I can't think of any dress or 'sport' watch short of a Grand Seiko that is any better or prettier than the Erebus or Baltany ( a secret....these 2 have a nicer clasp than GS. Grand Seiko bracelet doesn't taper or microadjust. Lume might be better on these, also)
I’m a GADA watch guy, I love divers too of course but I love the simplicity of three hands and a date gives you. You and Steven have absolutely smashed it with the Ascent which isn’t a surprise given how impressive the design of the Origin was. I absolutely love it Jody! And what a selection of dial choices l! Mega stuff!
Hats off to you Jody, Iust admit that I was not a big fan of the Origin diver, but I have to say this one is absolutely stunning! Finally somebody realizes the side profile of a watch is just as important as thr face of a watch, and I love that it is done in an original manner not overly similar to any existing designs (the curvature and the location of the "waist line" really gives off CW lightcatcher vibes, but the execution is of course very different. Another thing I like about the dimensions is that the dial size is actually not as big as I would expect for a 39mm sports watch. Absolutely amazing work Jody, hope to see this design language incorporated into more future releases and make it "your thing" (again CW, and to a lesser degree, Lorier have both done this brilliantly).
Beautiful watch and those dials are gorgeous! If I hadn't recently fallen on hard times I would definitely snatch one up. Congratulations on your second offering!
Fantastic job guys, I love it. My only criticism is the "ERUBUS" text below your lovely applied logo... Your brand logo is very strong. Therefore, I feel the text is superfluous on your dials. Be brave and take it off! Leave it discreetly on the case backs and bracelets. Check out the positive effect a similar branding change has made to Christopher Ward.
Congratulations! First impression is this will be a monster hit! Great design, great attention to detail. Just how much value is packed into the watch, I guess I'll find out once I have one "in the metal.". But job, well done. The hardest part is picking one.
Jody, you've knocked this one out of the park. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't a fan of the Origin, but this...this is special. I may have to get more than one. Congratulations.
This just screams SARB to me. I have watched this video 3 times since yesterday. I just can’t get enough of that white dial. You guys have knocked this out of the park. I LOVE this watch!!! GREAT JOB 👏🏼
This is the spiritual successor to the SARB but even better! I have fallen deeply into the watch pit these last two years but am still a university student with a budget to go along with that! This is the first time I am presented with a watch I absolutely love and it is actually within an approachavle budget for me!
I think you’ve absolutely knocked it out of the park with the Ascent! Just pre-ordered the black one. Well done, Jody and Mr. P! Excited for the future of Erebus!
That Aventurine looks amazing, but that Green stone one might be my next Erebus. Still loving my Yellow Origin, I wish I could smooth out the caseback on it.
Have to say that I agree with the choice of male end links, to me, they always look better. Female end links do help a watch wear a little smaller, but with a short lug to lug like this, they’re just not needed. Great watch Jody, think I’ll be ordering this one!
Okay, you got me! I've just placed my order for the white face Ascent with the J link bracelet. It did take a while to decide which to get, so many choices.
What a beautiful Side profile the Ascent has! You can tell the designers have worked hard on this Watch. I particularly liked the Colour matching on the Purple Dial and the Black Helix Dial effect too. Well done Jody.
As many others have already said the Origin wasn't drawing me in but this one is a stunner. Thought I was all in on the Orange dial but then that purple dial came on...WOW! Now I have a real decision to make.
Just put in an order plus the leather straps. Gonna sell a Seiko and maybe a Hamilton to cover the cost. Plus, want to reduce my collection and wear each watch more. Going to 5 or so. Also reducing my boot collection to a number that I an patina in a reasonable number of years. Like maybe 6 pair.
WOW! This is absolutely stunning. I’m between the aventurine and the black. I can only buy one or else I’ll be dead or divorced 😂. Congratulations on another masterpiece
The thing I love most about my Tudor BB41 in blue is the dial is a color outside of the standard RGB. Your brain doesn't exactly know what's going on, but it can tell it's special. Very unique and interesting. It's not possible to tell without seeing them in person since our phones are RGB, but that blue dial really reminds me of that similar color. Very unique and interesting. Absolutely nailed that too!
Jody they look absolutely fabulous. I have to admit I didn’t go for the Origin because it was just a typical Diver for me….. but the Ascent is just magnificent. Utterly sublime dials across the range especially the Helix style. This second model will be an outstanding success I’m sure. The lack of an embossed caseback is a shame. How on earth did you forget.
You really have done a great job with this one. The quality of the dials, especially with that applied logo and colour matched date wheels 👌 If you're still looking for people to review them, I'd love to check one out on the channel. Especially that burnt orange, or one of those with the mini logos on it... Very cool effect by the way.
Absolutely brilliant effort. I like the purple one and the white one. I was just watching a previous video on the Omega Speedmaster WHITE dial and was amazed at how a simple splash of red lifted that watch into the stratosphere and made it's older brother the black dial look very ordinary indeed. The new ascent IMHO looks better that the Omega aqua terra . Well done Jody and Steve .
Yes, Jody replied to my comment on on the last video regarding that point. It's the only thing that's stopping me from jumping on this straight away.☹️
Well, all governments charge taxes to one extend or another, it's nothing that Jody or DHL can do anything about. The difference is that if I buy something from a company within my country, they are legally required to display the price including taxes.
@@bigdreams5554no, not really. DHL charges me the insane amount of 67€ for shipping to Germany. Taxes are additional. But if I have to pay a fifth of the price of the watch just for shipping, it unfortunately absolutely destroys the value argument. Buying an Ascent will set me back 530€ in total. I can get better watches for that money.
They are absolutely stunning, and the price is incredible. I'm jealous, as they're probably a little too small for my treetrunk wrists. If it wasn't for that, my pre-order would be in already. Keep up the great work! And if you fancy making a 42mm version with longer lugs in the future... 😉
Finally I ordered the white and the burnt orange piece 🤦♂️. Looking forward to them! 🤩 According to the numbers of both orders I placed last night and right now 24h later, I see, that you have orders coming in for at least 100 units every 24 hours 😅
If I didn't already have my GADA sports watch, this would definitely be my choice! What an incredible watch and so many colour and bracelet options again.
I have a Megaquartz (Daytona look Pagani) and it's putting me off from automatics. Why bother? I may one day, but to be happy with my automatics I'd need a huge winder cabinet of sorts. The trusted (nearly illegible) Pagani is just there, feels comfy and looks the part. Also a 39. I can totally see a selection of Ascents push it into the margins of my watch drawer.
@@Cloxxki I love all my mechanicals .but it is a chore resetting them after not being worn for a couple of days or when you fancy a change. So I've been looking at citizens eco drive watches as a grab and go watch I do like jodys chronomaster
Thanks for addressing the UK tax and shipping. I realise that it’s nothing to do with Erebus and it’d be easier to say nothing, but that wouldn’t be your way. You are the fairest and most honest reviewer on RU-vid - i hugely respect that
I already stumbled upon with the unpleasant surprise some microbrands doesn't tell you have to also pay import taxes (phoibos is one), Jody being upfron about it, is a good heads up to have.
11 mm with double dome is absolutely amazing! For reference a watch close to this that own from citizen as my “sarb killer” is 10mm thick no double dome but flat sapphire so that’s more than acceptable that’s damn near spec! I love the dials and colors so much as well 10/10!
Purple Helix on the J bracelet for me! Another home run from Erebus. Can't wait to get my hands on this one! (Or should I say, this one on my hand?) But I forgot the strap pack and my purple t-shirt! Back to the website I go...
The first was a good FIRST... The Second is a HOME RUN... Damn I hate being broke LoL The Green Fumé is Amazing, and the Orange Fumé is brilliant for a little something different.
Jody, BIG CONGRATS, YOU NAILED IT. It's darn BEAUTIFUL in every way. Elegant, classy, great dimensions, and just the right hands length and shape!. I will not compare it to Grand Seiko, but it really is so beautiful and elegant. The dial colour variations all very nice, keeps one guessing which is the nicest among them all.. Just like the Origin, A BEAUTIFUL, well-made watch, at a great price.
Absolute Genius and better than expected! Almost a GS, The CITIZEN and Aqua Terra rolled into ONE with Sarb case! Thank God for the lume. The only issue now is deciding on the dial.....
