We let Children Handle These Wild Snakes!

In this video, we're going to buy recently caught snakes from a trapper and a middleman, use the snakes to educate some locals and then release the snakes back into the wild where they belong. I didn't expect to have young children holding wild emerald tree boas (which have the longest teeth of any non-venomous snake in the world) but they did, so here we are... let's see what happens.

I really felt like that snake in particular and Aren have a very special relationship. It keeps wanting it's body to be near him which really shows a level of comfort I've rarely seen with wild animals and a human. ❤

Outstanding work, Bob! It is so amazing to me that you were able to be an ambassador for snakes to these folks. What a positive experience for everyone - even Amy Bentley who got her first snake bit ever in the jungle! Those kids will never forget the cool bearded guy who wrangled a bunch of snakes so they could learn and enjoy them! Huge respect to you and the team for doing all of this!

Buying and releasing the snakes reminds me of the starfish story--guy on a beach is throwing starfish back into the ocean so they don't dry out and die, and when questioned why he's bothering when he can't save them all so why does it matter, and he says "it matters to that one," as he picks one starfish up and throws it back. You saved those snakes, and hopefully they won't be caught again.

The all or nothing mentality is such a weird take. I can't clean up all the trash and it is absolutely going to continue to show up, but I'm going to pick up what I can when I can. "You can't fix it so why do anything" is such nihilism.

Great video! Curious on your thoughts on captive bred, if the price with capive was closer, equal or slightly cheaper couldnt a breeder make the difference with more sales if captive bred prices were closer to the wild caught price. Its gotta be cheaper to breed than pay hunters, middle man,importers and sellers . But i get why captive go for more but maybe for the good of the species if more people can afford captive then wouldn't that make it not profitable to collect from the wild?
@GreenRoomPythons
@GreenRoomPythons 5 месяцев назад
It's actually much cheaper to buy a wild caught import and turn it around for a profit. Raising captive breeder animals, working with them, hatching the eggs, getting the babies going, etc... is a large financial and time expense.

I think where you grow up also affects your opinion on snakes. My boss from India hates them, because they have a lot of venomous snakes that will crawl into houses. She was taught if you don't know what kind it is, assume it's venomous so she's raised fearful. Meanwhile the only dangerous snake in Michigan is a rattlesnake, so I grew up playing with wild snakes (garters and watersnakes). Education is a good way to show how to handle snakes so they are less scary though, even as simple as the difference between aggressive vs defensive.
