@@Givebackthescarf My friend, you are entitled to believe what you wish. When she was two years old I had to hold her with my LEGS, and pry her mouth open with my left hand, just to be able to get the toothbrush in her mouth with my right. All the while she was running away, screaming bloody murder, thrashing around... That MUST happen every day. Hair? Hell no. I can cut it short and/or straighten it to make her life more enjoyable. You don't know my child, her anxiety, temperament, sensory issues, or her needs. So it's probably best for me to make decisions on her behalf and not you. I'd like to avoid the neighbor's calling CPS to report that I'm abusing my child because of her terrible screams just so she can have natural hair... because someone on RU-vid says I don't love my kid if I straighten it. lol. Lastly, I have been doing her hair since the day she was born. I have done it exactly how my friend, a natural advocate and professional braider said. I detangle and not on dry hair. I did it all the ways.... and guess what? She didn't start crying about it till she was two years old... same time she started protesting her teeth being brushed. Maybe it was developmental? Maybe it was neurological... I don't know. But here we are... fighting about it on RU-vid. You are one of the natural Nazi's... and being white, or "yte" as you say, doesn't make me less knowledgeable about my child's needs. Her own birth mom taught me about her hair... In fact, when she visited us once, she even tried to do her hair and saw what I go through. lol. We've had many a bonding giggle over it. Pick your nose... pick your seat... but ya don't get to pick MY child's hair.

I don't want to end up with flat hair anymore, I love the volume I have now too much to go back. I use heat twice a year to straighten my hair, not more, I'm too afraid of damaging my hair. Hey lovely ladies! You two are so adorable. I was relaxed/texlaxed for about 10 years straight and only stopping during all three of my pregnancies. I loved my hair, and it was very long although I never relaxed it to "bone Straight". I just went natural during pandemic (April of 2020) and also did a big chop then. I wanted to cut off the permed ends, but I ended up cutting more and more to see if I liked short hair and what my natural curls looked like. Natural long hair is not for everyone, and you have to do what works for your taste. I will kindly say though that perm naturally weakens the hair strands and relaxing to bone straight will eventually weaken the hair so much that breakage occurs more often. Contrary to what some may think, you really don't need to trim healthy hair that often. Twice a year is what I did when my hair was long but do what's best for you and what you feel your hair responds to. Best of Luck! 🧡🧡

I went natural purely for health reasons as relaxers are major endocrine disruptors and are still linked to fibroids. I also hate flat hair. It takes a lot of work for natural though. Been relaxed for over 40 years, just went natural only because I use "Grew By Me" shampoo and conditioner. I wash, condition, and blow dry my hair weekly and it looks fabulous! Not sure if I'll go back for now. I believe it has a lot to do with the type of hair you have as to whether or not natural is for you. My hair is responding positively to the style and it looks relaxed. I will admit my edges around my crown need training and will curl up when my hair is dirty. Otherwise, I'm very satisfied and support you guys with your personal decision! Keep up the good work! Oh, I also steam my hair at least twice a month for hydration and it is bouncing and behaving! I did start off with cutting 5 ' off my hair to start, though. It's still shoulder length, but a fresh start is always good!

I have bounced back and forth between relaxed, natural, and a perm(Gina Curl, then Wave Nouveau) during the last 7 years. My hair is to collar bone length now in its natural state. I will be honest it is too much to handle! The frizz and bushiness of type 4 hair for me, as well as long detangling sessions are no fun. I'm past 40 yrs. old and got my first relaxer around 10 because my heat-trained BSL hair was too much for my mom to handle. Oh and the shrinkage sucks too. Now, I'm doing crochet braids and wigs because of how low maintenance they are. I'll do this another six months or so, then probably get a Japanese hair straightener or Gina Curl. Ever since I was a child I would play with my hair especially the curls on the kitchen and my mom would get so mad that I would have a bald spot where my hair was. I have relaxe hair since I was thirteen and have tried to go natural but I have a condition called tricholomania(hair pulling). I don't pull my hair but I love playing with my curls to the point my scalp hurts and it causes a lot of breakage to my hair. Every time my roots grow in all up in my hair playing with it and I can't stop until I get my roots relaxe and no longer pick on it because their are no curls. But even when my hair is in a ponytail I find myself playing with it. It's something I have to work through but having fine relaxe hair that is prone to breakage on its own has made me take care of it more.

Not sure what you ladies are doing nowadays, but I think the damage you’re not considering between being heat trained vs being relaxed is that, yes, over time the heat will loosen your curl pattern, which to some is a form of damage, but relaxers are a chemical and who knows what havoc it’s wreaking on your body and not just your hair. There’s already a study out there that says that relaxers cause uterine cancer so I don’t need any more proof than that to determine which one is more damaging. If you’re doing such long stretches between relaxers and using formaldehyde-free keratin treatments to stretch them, I say why not stick to the keratin treatments only and go from there. Either way, we are all free to choose what to do with our hair but I think everyone who wants you to go natural is coming from a good place.

My daughter’s hair is relaxed because she cannot handle having it detangled otherwise. It’s so frustrating when people assume that I don’t know how to comb her hair without hurting her. It’s a personal choice. I relaxed her hair based on the advice of a friend who is black. My little girl’s hair is much healthier being relaxed and COMBED than a “natural” rats nest mess. Oh, and my other issue is those who assume that I don’t teach my daughter how beautiful her natural hair is. She is only seven. I have told her a million times that her natural hair is beautiful. BUT… even at seven, I was allowed to choose how I wanted to wear my hair. It’s not okay to assume that I don’t “speak life” into my daughter because her hair is relaxed. …and believe me I’ve heard it all! I wish Team Natural would be less judgmental, and more affirming of doing what is right for each individual.

I still remember some parts, but you're right, it's getting hard to know what every detail of being natural is like :)

Don't do it! Resist the Mob! I can promise hair constant breakage and drama! I had uber long hair till I went natural it was always at the mid back.now I have a head of straw.natural hair encourages laziness if u do it yourself and stylists hate to comb it out natural.they rip thru your hair.it takes forever in the salon bc your under the dryer for an eternity and it only stays silky with fabric softener.it will stay longer with relaxer bc better retention with less manipulation.dont believe me.watch someone with natural hair getting it done that's as long as yours.youll never find one.why? Because stylists don't wanna do long natural hair.still wanna try it.go buy a natural wig thats water wave as long as your hair and put it on and go get tour hair done and see how they act! All u need is oils for hair growth and a clear non straightening ( no peroxide/ammonia) cellophane and your hair will be a lot longer
