Truth is Alfred wants the tribes united, but really its that he wants the christian God to prevail. I think it's been the goal since the beginning, he never hid that. I think that it's fair Alfred is the way he is. Most Christians see their faith as the future. Hope you do understand that Alfred didn't have a choice with elder Odda… it's not like he wanted to kill Odda. But Odda committed treason. And as a king he has to uphold the law. 03:55 Also I think you need to try to see it from Alfred's perspective too. He's a father, and that's his daughter. Odda is saying just let her die. And Alfred is upset because unlike Odda’s son who was a traitor, Alfred’s daughter is innocent and should not have to die. Is it wrong to tax the people? Absolutely. But Alfred is being emotional and not logical right now. He's focused on saving his daughter, which is what any worried father would be like. I think it's easy to see it negatively only, but if you think of it as a parent Alfred is doing what he thinks is right because he wants to save his daughter. The tragedy being that he's being a bad king in the process. 09:23 - didn't see what happens in your reaction. But I hope you noticed the emotion in Alfred's eyes in this scene. He was brokenhearted when he realized Odda was committing treason. Alfred had already given a command and Odda, as noble as the action might be, was disobeying 19:27 - During this convo, Alfred acknowledges Odda was his friend. Alfred might be king but Odda broke the law, regardless of why he did it. If I steal bombs to stop bad guys that want to kill thousands, and I destroy a government building to kill the bad guys, I will still go to jail, regardless of why I did what I did. Same logic applies here. Alfred realizes Odda actions saved the country, but in the end Alfred can't just be lenient when everyone knows Odda disobeyed the king. Maybe I'm being a bit defensive towards Alfred but I think it's important to note why Alfred is the way he is. He isn't just a heartless prick. There are reasons, even if we don't love those reasons Rest in peace Erik and Odda 😔

This is one of my favorite finales of the show. I knew there was no way that they were going to be together but I think they really did love each other. Alfred pisses me off a lot of the time but I think he's trying to be a good and fair king considering the times they lived in. I'm loving y'all's reactions. Joe I know you're watching Peaky Blinders but has Taye considered watching it as well? She would love it I think.

What is impressive about this show is that they give no fucks. Like they will kill anybody at any time. And it makes it stressful cause you know th danger is real and there's not a lot of plot armor. BTW you know they really should have given Jaime Lannister that sort of knife hand that he got cut off like the Dane guy has. It's cool AF. Maybe even a sort of mini-sword.

odda has a point but imo alfred makes sense in the sense that the king's daughter being humiliated and raped would put a shadow on wessex as never seen before, wessex would be broken, though both options he has is very much shit. i think the key to understand alfred is to understand his role as king and the times, he has a set of duties that he must hold himself to otherwise he will seem weak. and as king his role is to inact superiority and basically be the beacon of god for his subjects. uhtred challenges his role, it would be 10x easier for alfred to trust uhtred but due to uhtred's refusal to respect the laws and customs of wessex, alfred cannot have himself do that. unlike odda, beocca etc, uhtred does not see alfred as HIS king but A king. uhtred is neither dane nor saxon and can very easily switch and cause the downfall of wessex hence alfred's paranoia. if he depends too much, alfred seems weak as a king, if he doesn't he is egotistical king that disrespects his council. you seem him struggle with these two choices as the show progresses and thus uhtred and alfred's relationship progresses along with it. when roles religions identities are shed, alfred and uhtred get along very well, they're both smart, cunning and make up for each others weaknesses as seen at the marshlands in s1. but due to alfred's power, responsibility, pride and customs they were both brought up in, their conflicts arise and mainly it's alfred that disrespects uhtred bc he has the power to do so.

Enjoy watching your reactions but I think you’re being a tad hard on Alfred. His vision is to create a united country with a common God and law so as to bring an end to endless violence that was commonplace during these times. Let’s not forget this is an era where religion was the dividing line between Saxon and Dane as nations as we know them today don’t really exist. But I agree with you on the frustration. Utred constantly shows his loyalty every episode which frustrates me as all I want Alfred to do is acknowledge him. It’s also an issue for Alfred to have a pagan as his right hand man when his kingdom is Christian. It’s a very “complicated” relationship but it works brilliantly here as you can see both dislike each other yet they want the same goal
