I bought a Mini 3 recently for exactly this use. Having done photogrammetry when I studied Photographic Science, I am still fascinated with it 30yrs later.
@@atindan - I have a Mini 3 Pro, but any drone that can take still images can do photogrammetry. You do need decent capacity on an image card and decent flight time but then it’s just a case of plugging the images into the relevant computer package. Have a look at MeshRoom.
@@drewskiakg2719 - I had a play with meshroom with mixed results, but my computer wasn’t really up to the task of building a mesh with hundreds of photos. Might give it another try when I get a moment.
Nice !! For Reality Capture though I would suggest using RAW files instead of JPEG and convert it to TIF (16 bit for texture projection and automatic 8bit conversion for model generation)
Yeah the mini3! I use it daily as part of our kit. whether it is for photogrammetry itself, or even just scouting around a site to check the heights of a structure before mission planning for the M300, it's a valuable tool.
Truly helpful! I think it's an advantage to have these smaller drones for these purpose so their easy to bring around on site. Mini 3 sure is an excellent choice for a mini drone!
duuuuudeee thank you!!! trying to break into the 3d model side of drone work and every time I look for jobs they want experience using lidar and photogrammetry with drones that cost tens of thousands of dollars, so I'm super stoked to finally be able to get some experience with the mini 3 pro that I already have. huge appreciation for you brudda
Get your asprs certification. They are still going to want something legit, not just 3d models from your drone. It's more technical experience they want.
I've just discover your channel, got to say love your delivery, the succintness of them 7-8mins is perfect. Like the graphics too I need something that slick! Subbed.
I love your videos... so professional ....very inspiring. Keep up the good work and thanks for the help . Was thinking I need a 14k drone for that but ...looks like w some practice and guidance I can already do it w my mini 3 pro . Thanks
We want to create a terrain map of some land that is 70x70 meters on the side of a hill. Is is possible to do this and get reasonably accurate height measurements with the DJI3 Mini Pro?
You didn’t explain this: so manually shot the images but did you just do a Circe with quick shots and manually took pictures. Or did you manual turn a 360 ? Because that would be hard to stay steady and at the same height and distance. I was able to do this with my mini se using litchi app. Recorded the video.. took footage and made a photos from it. And I can honestly say my 3D model is as good as yours. Altho the 3D object is missing a lot of data because I was not able to get any footage from about 5m .. straight on or so because there were too many trees and wires too close to the subject.. still trying to find a way to do it .. but I’m not sure I want to risk the drone hitting all those wires, branches and other obstacles .. any suggestions?
Great video! I really like the new mini 4 pro. I’m new to the game and am thinking of starting a side gig for when I retire from my day job. I’m totally green. That being said, if you were me, would you get the mini 4, or opt for the DJI Air 3? Can I do enough jobs with the mini 4 to subsidize myself, or is the Air 3 going to be more diversified for getting more business type jobs? Thx! Paul < New Hampshire
so if I understand it corectly the closer you are with the objective the better your rendering will be? ( or the more pictures you take in close up ? )
Aaron you rock! A question for you and any viewers with first hand experience: If you're a start-up looking to primarily do 2D maps and 3D modeling for construction (Drone Deploy) with some inspection work would you choose an M30T or M2AE? Or something else? Thanks in advance for any/all replies!
An argument can definitely be made for that yes, as it allows the drone to do other things like mapping and modelling using 3rd party software, so if you're wanting to get into mapping and modelling and dont have the budget, the Mini 3 Pro is a great start. Objectivly overall Mini 4 Pro improves on the key features of the Mini 3 Pro in every way, especially with Camera Performance with 10bit Dlog-M HLG, 4K 100fps and omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, not to mention inclusion the of Waypoints that allows for repeatable missions over time. The 3rd party software abilities can allow for these types of repeatable flight capabilities in the Mini 3 Pro, and it's camera still performs well with 10bit D-Cinelike and 4K 50fps capabilities. So it just comes down to what your priorities are and how you will mostly want to use your drone!
I use it for roof inspections, paid off in 2 weeks, just wish there was a software way to turn off the bottom sensors rather than using tape to cover them (yes I fly that close to things), however my first one had a compass crabbing issue on RTH and the right arm mount failed (both a manufacturing quality control issue) DJI explained this to me and replaced it with a new in the box sealed drone, they called me to extend their apologies as they explained that they could clearly see it wasn’t anything I could have caused. All in all for the size it’s a lot of drone! However it’s weight class doesn’t make it any cheaper on $20M liability insurances, costs the same as the Mavic 3
Besides Skand, what other software do you recommend? I work in a lot of chemical plants and paper mills and would like to do some 3D modeling for them.
Yeah I want to use m9ni pro 3 for inspection work I work with a lot of refrigeration and elevated piping I was hoping someday to use it indoors . Put my part 107 and my other certifications w epa for hvac together but I have Alot to learn .
Not that i'm aware of yet. I've done a bit of research into it and it doesn't seem like its possible yet. I tried to use maps made easy but they only have the mini 2, hopefully this will be updated at some point.
