Absolutely fantastic review. Very informative. I'm from Dudley which isn't too far from Birmingham so the influence is here too. Shout out to the Balti King. I'm going to order that book also how do I order a couple of those balti pans?
Look up The Birmingham Balti Bowl Co. for the online site to order the balti pans. They also do a wooden stand that the balti sits in as the idea is to eat the curry directly from the balti. You can also buy the book on the same site.
This was brilliant. Really informative on a form of curry I've loved for years in a city I was proud to call home and miss terribly. Hope you do more of these types of video!
Gutted that I wasn't aware you were coming to Birmingham. Next time you're down here you need to try the chicken donner from Al Shazans on Stratford Rd in Sparkhill. Then Kurd naan junction which is 1 minute away(Formans road) to try their keema naan and chicken naan(You wont be able to get your head around the prices) and then a 5 minute walk(down Stratford rd) to Hajees to try their Mexican burger
Balti & Indian cuisine in the U.K. is about as Indian as Spag boll to Italians. Don’t know why, having been in Asia the food is amazing, doesn’t compare to the slop sold in the U.K.
I’ve lived in Asia for over 20 years and been to many countries there and eaten from food stalls to 5 star restaurants and nothing I’ve had in that time tasted as good as the Balti Chicken Saag I had in Adils in 1981.
I’ve lived in England my entire life but grew up with a Pakistani uncle and goat curry… …I started making curry about 20 years ago and made many dishes from Asia (my wonton soup is OP,not just curry) so noticed certain ingredients stuck with specific regions and that was that but I enjoyed them all so combined all I knew into one “super curry” which (ovi with boiled egg/peas 😉) without doubt it’s the best thing I ever eaten in England by far ✌️
Unfortunately there aren’t many balti restaurants left particularly in Ladypool Road, most are grill restaurants, burgers etc, younger Asians in brum are getting fed up with eating curries so the demise of restaurants
If your in Birmingham. Try out a hidden gem called “ Hen Ko” on Stratford road hall green. Their peri grill chicken better than Nando’s. And the pizza are great aswell
