Matt and Jess, I'm not quite sure what took you so long finding the balti triangle, but I'm soo pleased that you did and that you enjoyed the authentic curries. Loving the great orginal content and keep up the fab reviews!
Never been more proud to be a brummie , love love reviews . Been to popular amazing . We are great welcoming folks , so come back soon jess matt and callum jo 👍👍👍👍💖💖💖
41 years born & bred in Birmingham & I have never had a curry at the balti triangle! I’ve had plenty of curries around brum but I need to get myself down ladypool road. My go to curry house that I’ve been using for 20 years now is the oasis tandoori on Stratford road in Shirley (B90) that place never lets me down
Fantastic review but haaaaahahahahahahahhaha when you tried the super malt. It's very good for you though. Oh and the first balti the pan was black. Best pan to have, the black is called seasoning. Every time you cook in a pan with seasoning it adds to the flavour. The pans are washed but not scrubbed with brillo. I am Jamaican heritage. We cook in Dutch pots. Mine is black too. If anyone scrubbed it clean I'd kill them. 🤣🤣🤣
So the mainstay used to be Saleems on Ladypool Road, over 4 decades and stunning food! They’ve moved over to a new site in Hall Green called Abduls Cafe and Diner with Rafiq going back to making the food I remember eating at Saleems when I was super young!! The pakora and katlama are 🔥🔥🔥
I love this review. Birmingham holds a special place in my heart I think it's the greatest city in the world and like you've seen the food is second to none. I lived and worked there for over thirty years on the canals there
Matt you need to get yourself to Champys (Bradford arms) in Walsall. You need one of the mixed grill the food there is the dogs danglers! Love your videos as always and I’m quite proud to watch this and say I’m from near the area
Birmingham Phat joes (stratford road) Flaming patties (ladypool road) Anterp (ladypool road) Khans fish bar (ladypool road) Heavenly desserts U don't know what u missing...
Thank you Matt for bigging up my home city of Birmingham, the birthplace of the Balti and the Phaal. I hate it when places serve "Balti" which is cooked in a normal pan and then served in a stainless steel dish with handles. A proper Balti is served usually in the cast iron bucket (a literal translation) in which it was cooked and should be sizzling when it reaches the table. I think Ladypool Road is probably the only place you are going to get a proper Balti. Thanks again.
Handsworth is the only place you’ll get a proper Balti in Brum! Ladypool Road is seriously overrated,The Covered Wagon In Moseley Village,Brum up the road is sheer class!
Loved this review and the area live in Asia now but man I crave a Birmingham balti most weeks and I haven’t lived there for 18 years - love your channel !!
I used to go to this area a lot in the early 80s, when it was dirt cheap. I went back a couple of years ago, and was a little disappointed, the restaurants have gone all fancy and not so cheap any more. It didnt help matters, when i took my spanish wife with me. Even though i didnt have a problem with the food, my wife did, shes used to tasteless, spiceless indian food which is on offer everywhere in Spain!!! Anyway i luckily took a trip down memory lane to another balti place i too used to go to in the 80s, Diwans in Balsall heath. Happy to say its still very good and not too expensive!! But they also couldnt cater for my wife!!!
Can sense the underlying mockery when talking about the energy and nice shop. Didn't all get brought up with a silver spoon in our trap. As for the food reviews though. Can't argue with the praise. Numero Uno the Balti belt is
3 rubies !!! thats a lotta food! no wonder yr a big lad!! being a brummie i used to go this neck of woods weekly in early 80s! Adifs was my fave! never been to shababs or popular balti. I live abroad now, but visiting brum in 3 weeks, so will have to goo down memory lane!!
Love a Balti, I lived up the road in Stoke for 10 years and they have excellent Balti houses too, as does Manchester, but I think Birmingham has to take the crown for being the originators, all the Naan breads are like that around there, cooked in a Tandoor oven, I moved down to Brighton after Stoke and not every curry house down there used a Tandoor oven and you could tell the difference immediately..
I first ever had Indian Curry back in the 80’s, and I must say that curries tasted a lot different to what they do today. Every dish had a different taste, these days all dishes tend to taste the same, be they from a takeaway or a restaurant. The same goes with pakoras, they tended to come with the sweet and sour tamarind dip, now it’s all mint flavoured yoghurt. They don’t seem to have distinct flavours and aromas any more. Maybe I live in the wrong area for a really great curry, but I miss the flavours of curries of yesteryear! I hope I’m not the only one who has noticed this!
Just seen this. And round the corner to one of my favourite music venues - The Hare & Hounds - which I’ve been to a few times! Now I know the best Balti’s to eat in the area the next time I’m there! Cheers Matt!
Over 20+ years of having curries from various Balti houses and restaurants all over the best by far is the new hen and chickens hill top West Bromwich the fish pakora is the best we’ve had and the curries are amazing
I don't know if it's the phone they are using or the person filming, but when jess does it ,the quality is sooooo much better xx fab reviews by the way xx
my favorite area, use to be down there a couple of times a week, shandars and saleems sadly gone now, popular balti great food, Imran's used to be a great place but seems to have gone upmarket with their food,
Asha's is my favourite curry house in Brum. It is not cheap but you get what you pay for. I usually have the vindaloo which is not your normal tongue blaster. The spicing is so subtly balanced and there are so many layers of flavour which build as you eat it. It is a slow burner but someone who is not a chilli head would still be able to handle it. Top notch in my opinion.
This may be my ultimate fantasy day out, isn’t it amazing how many Indian food variations there are within the uk! Dundee curry houses have a large Bangladeshi influence I love them but will definitely try to get to the Balti triangle!
Not in the Triangle, but Royal Shapla in Quinton, Birmingha, B32. Absolutely stunning curry house. Is it bad I could almost smell and taste that balti through the screen? Haha!
Sister Jess and Bruv Matt...was there a few weekends ago....delish food! Please try Tipu Sultan and just go see the decor at taste of Pakistan...most unique interior I have ever seen...❤️
the massage the bango sign is because people squeeze them to check if its rotten or overripe on the verge. Somtimes you have to, especially with Avacado or youll end up with bad uns
on that road ladyool road at the far end to the left of shababs is a small curry house on the corner of the street is a stunning balti house its better than shababs ,and cheaper ,i,m,o ,the even better curry houses are on stratford road from ladypool road turn left folow the roads up 450 yards and you come onto stratford road springfied or sparkhill has alot more curry houses ,cheaper and locals use them ,i lived there ,for over 10 yrs on and off
the curry shop owners have long tampered with "the original", to accomodate the saxon tongue. when i first started scoffing 'em, bradford, in the early 70's they were "mustard". after a gallon of ale, ya were oblivious to the "heat"........fond memories. pining for a bargee, now. x
Matt, next time you're in London please come and to Camden Town and try Spice Hut Camden. You need to be acquainted with the Grand Slam Burger and the Spicy Doner. You won't regret it.
Check out Jilabi Indian curry house it's in Coventry Road Birmingham Sheldon. check out the reviews, by far the top 5 restaurants in Brum, for food services and more food they go so much extra it's beyond words. Google it👍👏 Not so expensive aswel
Fantastic review Mat, as a Brummie who left England 20 years ago, this is one of the dishes that just can't be replicated. For me it started at age 15 at Adils on Stoney Lane Sparkbrook, 35 years ago. Was the best by far. I'm sure things have changed but it's worth a look.
Little Bangla in Langley Green is an amazing place for a curry just won UK Bangladeshi restaurant of the year. Take you own (alcoholic) drinks as well 👌👌
Bit further up we hav Afrikana quality! And if u want a proper Chippy right next to it Khans fish bar mate try there lamb curry and chips u won’t be disappointed.
You have to try the new Royal Balti Newcastle under lyme.. chicken tikka lamb madras jalfrezi with a garlic cheese naan to die for…. And only a few minutes off junction 16 of the M6
Well, its 4.45am here in the midlands.. im in bed.. should be asleep.. and my mouth is watering Big time seeing all these delicious curries.. and All i've got here to munch on, to try and satisfy the ol taste buds, is a half eaten bag of bombay mix!!
lamenting the "young uns". aye, but as a saxon, we grew up with that grub. then a curry shop opens up , ooh, what's this. different tack. i'll eat owt, struggle wi bleeding gherkins though. as for t' young south asiatics, they grew up with it. same difference. ( ever had "pearl barley stew 3 times a week" ?) eee, good old days.
