We Might Be Lukewarm Christians

So parents of murdered children can forgive the murderer without requiring innocent bloodshed... Buuut...

I think one always being in despare and needing God is a dramatic divergeance from one simply recognizing they are imperfect. Now combine that with the notion that anything less than perfection is "unrighteous" and therefore unworthy of God... hence the need for the blanket atonement of that which was unblemished (perfect) so long as one identifies with Him. But... (sorry) This seems to create a dissonance within Christians who want to be perfect so that they aren't constantly crawling back to God on their knees in repentance as abject failures of being Christ-like... and at the same time not complacent with the grace bestowed upon them through Christ. One way around such a dissonance is in the extremes. Either shrug your shoulders "meh" when confronted about your actions being carnal because after all... "saved by grace"... Orrrrr subject yourself (and those who follow you) to poverty and physical frailty for lack of want. (Mother Theresa) In her posturing to have "none" of "this world" and the same for those who followed her... she relegated meeting their basic needs to those who actually did work for a living and gave from their abundance. Essentially beggars who's cardboard signs essentially would have read: "I'm a true living sacrifice... please give me food and I'll pretend it came from God" You cannot UNIVERSALIZE "sell all you have and follow me" and have a religion that exists for hundreds of years. You cannot UNIVERSALIZE "remain as I am (unmarried) and follow Christ as I do... and have a religion that exists after a generation. The Apostles paid taxes by grabbing a coin from a fishes mouth. Other than that, where did they get the money that could afford a field or swords? Who's house did they meet in and how did they pay for food for all those years? How did I get on this topic?
