More than 28,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes due to the Thompson Fire in northern California. NBC News’ Morgan Chesky reports on the relief efforts and how the state is coping with more than a dozen other wildfires.

We're sitting here in the East Bay at 102° currently and 107° in Sacramento. Can't imagine what it must be like trying to fight a fire up there. All the best and much gratitude to the people who are doing it. ❤️

California had amazingly heavy rainfall and snow coverage the past year. Could these fires have been the cause of environmental regulations that forbid clean up, or controlled burning of old forest debris?

I'm in near Chico. Right next to Oroville. There is no smoke . Apparently the high dry winds are coming in from the north. I just came back inside and the wind was even almost hot. It's gotta be rough on CalFire.

Las Vegas & Phoenix have no trees to speak of, so forest fires are not an issue. When someone makes decisions to cut good trees here and there, all around, doing slow deforestation day-by-day to build "new homes"💰💸 , put acres of asphalt everywhere, that is hot like a burning pan on a sunny summer day. Instead of shadowy trees... And then be surprised that everything around is dry and temperatures higher and higher every year... and this is not hottest months yet.
