Yes, yes, yes!. I can definitely identify with this. With the exception of the kitchen, one of the bathrooms (the wheelchair accessible one where the space has to be kept clear for the wheelchair) and the laundry alcove, when you enter every other room in our apartment, you immediately see a variety of cat items. They have various playgrounds and sleeping areas in every room. For example, even the tub in our second bathroom has been turned into a cat playground by putting a very large and very sturdy Amazon box in it it and filling it with the plastic wrappings from things like toilet paper rolls which our younger feline loves to play in. (I cut them open first so that she cannot get trapped in them). The box fits so securely in the tub that one cat can play inside of it without it slipping at all, thus leaving a cat sized space underneath it for our other cat to hang out in. Non cat people see it and wonder why we have a box of "garbage" in our tub but cat people "get it" immediately. A sturdy rug sold to be used outdoors gives the cats a place to relax on while they do their "snoopervising" duties when I use the bathroom. Since it is such a sturdy rug, it doubles as an extra scratching post for them.

For most cats, as long as they have their stuff around them and things that smell like them, and you, your kitty should be alright. The animals and their possessions are usually the thing I pack and move near the end. If you have the option, maybe take your cat back and forth with you, and bring some of their things each time. I would leave the carrier around out in the open so they can get used to seeing it. Their smell is hugely important to them. It’s not always easy but it inevitably needs to be done. Reassurance, treats, and attention. Best of luck.

When I was going to move without taking my ratty old furniture after grad school, a while ahead I made a piece of furniture for The Cat of the House to take with her. Just a wooden rectangular (ok, parallelepiped) box with one long side open and pieces of carpet tacked down on the top and sides and on the floor inside the box. I also took a piece of cloth and tacked it like a curtain over the open side. Decades later, generations of cats have enjoyed this box as their bit of home over several more moves. They get tired of individual cardboard boxes, but never this box. Now it’s next to my bed as an alternative sleeping space. Senior Cat and Junior Cat had their first real cat fight (contactless) with Junior next to the bed on a chair, me precariously in the bed, and Senior on top of this box on the other side of the bed. They screeched and then glared at each other for many tense minutes while I attempted to negotiate. (Negotiations were successful, fortunately, since the dispute was actually all my fault. Long story.). Memories. Senior also had growled and hissed at Junior from the same spot when Junior first arrived and decided to sleep on my bed (just as a warning, Junior knew she was all bark, er, hiss and no bite). So just take something with you that the cat owns and enjoys, besides toys.

Martin Kronström They'll be fine. My Harlequin hates moving but all she does is cuss up a storm. Just make sure they have a safe enclosed space while you're actually moving so they can't get out. Either their crate or a bathroom. I usually put mine in their crate then place it out of the way in the bathroom/bathtub. They don't like it much but it's quiet and I don't risk them getting scared and running out the door. Once done with the moving things in and out I let them loose to explore. Some cats will hide like my old cat but others explore. Mine do get just a bit clingy but then quickly settle down. A few pats and some treats like canned food help. By the time a day or two goes by they won't even seem to remember the old place. But if they're indoor outdoor cats don't let them out for about a week do they won't try to go back to the old place.

MUST BE FOR rent reasons, california has outrageous rent rates.

Carpet in Florida is NOT a good idea. Heat and humidity means lots of mold and mildew unless you can clean everything thoroughly - so sealed hardwoods.

Megan Rivera Carpet ANYWHERE is a bad idea, especially if you have kids, pets, or both! It’s way easier to sweep and mop wood, linoleum, or laminate floors than it is to vacuum and steam-clean carpets. Which brings up another point: whose hairball idea was it to put carpet in apartment DINING ROOMS? They are impossible to get completely clean because of all the crumbs and whatever getting in them!
