This got me thinking about the novel coming out written by an ao3 author who wrote a sequel fanfic and due to huge amounts of support and the great Gatsby coming into public domain got it published and I can't fuckingggg waaaiiit

My high school did a Great Gatsby themed winter formal instead back in 2012. It was pretty fun and I loved the theme.

Yeah, mine was also GG themed. I’ve also worked some proms and 1/4 were GG themed. And no one ever wears flapper dresses or spats. Its a shame.

Haha I.. I have never been to prom lol. AND PIXAR'S SOUL IS SO GOOD! God, I almost started crying during that movie - it's just so emotional and amazing and I love the more adult turn they took with it, that meaning they went for a look at the before and after of our lives.

god, it's so fun to hear you talk about this stuff!! it's so cool and informative!!! also, my prom was NOT Gatsby themed, but my semi formal WAS (and I DID wear a flapper dress) side note: I'm so happy at the mention of the black moon rising video because it's MAYBE my most watched video on youtube LMFAO

the theme for my prom was graduation, because covid got it cancelled. it's fine. I'm fine. More than fine actually, my high school is horrible at planning parties, so really it was for the best lmao btw I love the way you draw hands/ shoes, and also the posing and the lighting and the sparkles and kind of just the whole drawing? you know? ANd thx for explaing the public domain, I've been having a hard time figuring out the whole thing, it's such a big tangled mess with what's copyrighted and what's not, when it's copywrighted, who's it owned by fiuhgfdkjslkdfoi especially with music.

It can get kinda confusing where the fair use or transformative loopholes are, as I know several people who create their own merch (teen wolf, Hannibal, persona series, etc), and do in fact make a profit on it.

Ah yes,Great Gatsby themed prom,where I was still a girl and forced to wear girly things because I didn't know any better. I'm surprised to hear that my school wasn't the only one to have held a prom with this theme,though. Why did that happen? Why the insurgence of Great Gatsby proms in 2015? Also yES,I can finally write a sequel to GG and not be forced to having it be a simple fanfiction in AO3. I can s-sell i-it....!! And make it gay!!!

another important fact abt this is that the reason that the time it takes for works to pass into the public domain is that every time mickey mouse is about to pass into public domain, disney goes and lobbies congress to extend it lmao
