Slipknot isn’t the “up and coming” “struggling on the road” band anymore. They’re a business. I don’t know how many people are employed by Slipknot, but I’m assuming the 9 members are but a fraction of the people it takes to make this band what they are. From people that are making the shows happen to the people behind the merch and websites. Regarding the hyping of an upcoming album… they know the fans want it. That’s the point of them teasing it. The anticipation is what makes it work.

Hi AJ, thank you for taking the time to make this reaction. It's given me a crucial perspective on how my videos come across and how I can improve in the future. A couple of things: - The video was intended to be a "reddit-complaint-compilation" centering around complaints I have seen come up a significant number of times on r/slipknot. - Thus far, I have tried to keep my own personal opinion out of the channel and just report on the news at hand. - It is now clear to me that this combination led to a video that was ambiguous and not at all cohesive. Believe it or not, I'm actually a huge Slipknot fan. I've been listening to them since I was 9, dressed up as them for multiple Halloweens in middle school, and just last week I saw them live for the 6th time. You're right about them playing tighter than ever! So, again, thank you for your insight and thoughtfulness. It's going to help me create better videos. I'm also going to take this as a sign to get off of reddit lmao. Best wishes!

the only thing i genuinely agree on is that they do keep selling themselves into weird shit that doesnt feel like slipknot to me. the whole barcode thing they did, it feels like that whole statement they made was completely forgotten. but i understand, this is their career and they have mouths to feed.

Getting your opinions off of Reddit is almost worse than getting your opinions from Twitter. The only points i agree with are about the setlist, i'd rather have them take out Before I Forget and Psychosocial for something like Liberate and I Am Hated, but like you said, vocal minority. And then the NFT thing, because NFTs are just shit, period. But i don't have to pay attention to that and don't buy it, so it's whatever, i don't care. And doing a vid on model trains would be dope, mixing up content and showing off things you're passionate about is rad.

Just a quick mention about the live setlist, I have only gotten to see Slipknot once and it was summer 2016. Went with a buddy who had been to several concerts over his lifetime and he told me that they rarely if ever played "Pulse of the Maggots" live. I was bummed because I grew up loving that song. To both of our surprise, we heard the infamous air raid siren begin, and we moshed harder than ever to "Pulse of the Maggots" live. One of the best concert experiences I have ever had.

The thing that bothered me was how he called Smite a "moblie game" I don't play smite but it's clear he barely done any research in it because it isn't a moblie game.

I seen this video on Heavi, and I agree with you on it. This seems like the channel's opinions mostly, and not what real Slipknot fans are thinking. Also if you posted a model train video, I'd watch it. My dad is really big into them, and I think they're really cool too. So The House of Trains possibly?? Lol jk

Reflecting on the whole thing in regards to the upcoming album I have seen lots of negativity in the subreddit. I however say “did we forget how much better we have it now?” We waited four years for All Hope is Gone and 5/6 years for the last two records. Lets also not forget that when waiting for Vol 3 we had zero evidence that there was even going to be a third album for a while and we were left totally in the dark. I feel the real tragedy is WANYK not getting a true lifecycle as majority of the record has not been performed live…

Not sure if this happened every show, but when they were in Montreal Corey asked who was at their first ever slipknot show, and it was like 75 percent of the crowd. I would imagine that has an influence on why they play a lot of the hits on every tour (aside from that being what literally every other band has done since the dawn of time).

As someone who’s part of the Slipknot Reddit community, I completely agree, it’s pretty cancerous, on the verge of leaving the site entirely because of it, he seemed to have cited comments from there a fair bit, when in reality Reddit is a platform where people share opinions and think those opinions are what the real world thinks, they love to shit on anything they don’t like, even if it’s something small and doesn’t effect them, so big mistake on his part. I like and dislike certain things about some of my favourite bands and that’s ok because it’s called being human. Btw, model trains are awesome

Honestly about the Smite thing i wish they would have done past members like Joey, Paul and Chris and maybe some others and pick what era and mask for which member you want to play as i think it would have been even cooler also can't wait for the model train video.

People need to realize that WANYK came out a little less than 3 years ago and we're ALREADY getting a new album. Don't understand why some of these guys are so up in arms about it when they really could've waited more. As you said, playing as a Slipknot member is what i always wanted. These are just cosmetic. Nobody forces you to buy them, and it does not give you any advantages ingame. I can listen to the first 3 albums any day and love All Hope is Gone, but I kind of lost interest in WNYK after the first few months and the same with .5

Regarding the chapeltown reg, I agree with this dude, since I adore the clown's creativity. Pollution was something amazing, I repeatedly review it. Also with Neuro fort. It has symbolism and an art house that I adore. I like that people whine that they don't understand it because it doesn't need to be understood, you just need to get high from it. Therefore, I consider WANYK to be a token of genius and a new round of metal. That's all.

Four years between Vol. 3 and AHIG, six years between AHIG and .5, and five years between .5 and WANYK. We are currently three years passed WANYK, so if you are demanding a new album then just deal with it. You can't rush an artist to put out art.

As a smite player, when he got to that part, i knew the video was pure bullshit. Starting with the fact that its not a mobile game. Also, its received very good feedback from the fans. Even players who dont know much about slipknot agreed that it was a very welcoming addition to the game. As for its price, its very reasonable keeping in mind how many gems you earn on a monthly basis. Not to mention, the game had a gem sale when the update dropped and it made it very accessible to obtain all the skins for the game

I am not one to say they need to repeat “Slipknot” or “Iowa” but, chapeltown rag just sounds like left overs from the last album that they decided to release.

Been a massive fan since the self titled album, listened to them everyday threw highschool, seen them live 7 times.. I can atleast say that the music they release is good but I find it doesn’t hit anywhere near like what older material does. So I barely listen to them now. After seeing them live 7 times I can also say the set list is very predictable as it is usually the same songs and when before I forget and psychosocial are when I’ll dip for a beer or piss break (but I do understand why those songs get played) And the video for chapel town rag did suck, but from what I no it’s not going to be on the new album so why put much money into that. And they did make a point about the designer brand shit and David from korn. With all that being said Slipknot is still my favourite band just I don’t pay attention as much as I once did

Man it was my first experience at the slipknot show at 2016 in Lithuania, and is it me or they usually have a waayy better setlist in Europe? They haven’t played Before I forget, Vermillion, they played I Am Hated, Everything Ends, MetaFUCKINGbolic, Disasterpiece, Left Behind like plenty of Iowa stuff, in 2020 they played Eeyore, New Abortion, Birth of the cruel, I dunno seems like European fans usually get heavier meat rather than radio hits, yes usually duality, psychosocial is definately there, I’ll be seeing them this year in Estonia and I do hope to see some songs like they haven’t played in years, No Life, Only One even anything from Vol 3 like The Pulse of The Maggots, Three Nil or The Blister Exist would be sweet, less AHIG for me, more anything underplayed songs from any of their albums would be nice, and of course new stuff would be cool, also I think they should’ve played more from WANYK, most of that album is pretty fucking sweet, only Critical Darling doesn’t do for me.

I 100% with you, I have hardly seen the type of comments he shows on reddit, maybe a handful of times. In reality from just growing up on the internet most people are just gonna move on and forget about his video until something bad comes up about slipknot. I don't think that will happen.

I love Slipknot but didn’t like The Chapeltowne Rag. I hope the rest of the album is better. But I saw them live 2 months ago and they were amazing! Every time someone starts talking about how a band needs to stop playing their old songs and focus on their new stuff it angers half of their fans. The ones who like the older stuff and don’t care for the new stuff. I always believe set lists should be the songs the fans want to hear not just the ones the band wants to promote. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica have had tours where the Setlist was created by the fans voting online and honestly those were some of the best Setlist I’ve ever seen.

The only real complaint I have for the smite thing is the timing, because if there’s an album around the corner and they’re using the WANYK looks it’ll outdate the skins within a year. But other than that I feel like the NFTs and all that are valid, personally I don’t care too much for NFTs but I understand it’s really hard to make money as a 9 man act. Like you said we’re not forced to buy into all this stuff.

Not trying to bag on Slipknot as a band, however I noticed that the older these guys get, the more of a sellout they tend to become.

When I Went In April it was my first time seeing them live and hell I was blown away it was one the best shows I’ve ever seen and I wanna go again!!!

Regarding that NFT point: the thing about the Knotverse announcement is it was timed horrendously. The hype around NFTs was already starting to die down at that point, not to mention how bad they are for the environment and shit. The way I see it, Slipknot fans have every right to be angry about that one. NFTs are/were a horrible trend that everyone - Slipknot included - only followed because they were cool for like 15 minutes, but nobody looked into the environmental concerns involving them. They bought into a scheme that's contributing to the destruction of the planet.

The more I listened to the original video, I kept asking myself “is this everyone’s opinion or just his?” Because many of his talking points were factually incorrect or just very heavily opinionated. Also as a heavy fan of Smite and Slipknot, I was so fucking happy when I saw that they collaborated. Anyway great vid AJ, keep it up!

Completely doesn't seem to understand that SK always takes about 4-6 years before putting out a new album and that was even before Covid cut WANYK cycle short, which was not something they could control. I don't do a lot of internet and social media deep dives so I don't use Reddit but it sounds almost as toxic and up it's own ass as Twitter. The barcode thing was a comment on how music, at the time, was becoming a quick, consumable product, as opposed to a work of art. In no way have they contradicted this. The music video for Chapel Town is a nod to their early music videos, much like the song itself is a nod to their early music. There’s a point to it, for sure.

The only albums that grew on me after their releases are vol. 3 and AHIG. I grew up with the first two albums to me that IS SLIPKNOT. the drums, the melodic breakdowns, the drop tune riffs . Corey's brutal and unique af scream vocals. That is true slipknot to me. So if they play nothing but a mashup the first two albums for 20 years I'd watch whenever I get the chance.

Another factor people need to take in is that when going on a tour, whoever it is, most likely would want to play the stuff for every show so some people don't feel like they're missing out. Ofc there's people who go to multiple shows on a tour but if they complain about it being the same... I can't really justify that

Here we are two years out from matching that same time length, and all we have to go off of are 'whispers' of a new record. They find every excuse they can. First it was covid (which in the beginning of the virus was a viable excuse, but life is back to normal and has been for some time). Then, they tried to make the excuse of 'well, we're playing a lot of shows'. That's the problem. They keep booking shows rather than getting into the studio and cranking out this supposed new album.
