Soul was truly a masterpiece. It teaches so many important lessons through such a creative and beautiful way. Pixar have really got another absolute masterpiece on their hands. I loved every second of it.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36 And this is why Pixar's Soul is one of their greatest films.

Brian this was such a great video. So poignant & important. I’ve gone through a similar journey myself in the past few years. God had to take me to a place of losing everything, including my voice, to show me that my identity is solely as a child of God. And that that is enough. Now years later He has restored my voice & I am beyond thankful, but no matter what success or failures happen, I do my best to keep focus on what’s important, and rest in the knowledge that I am not what I do, or what I aspire to do. Or what I fail at. I am who God made me to be regardless of any of that. And my perspective has been forever shifted. I value every aspect of life more for it. Thanks for sharing this and being so open. I’m sure this video is going to help a lot of people!
Soul is my new favorite Pixar. It really effected me. I’ve seen lots that compare this to Coco and Inside Out but to me, this film was much more applicable and on time.
I see actors and celebrities this way: they are ordinary people who just happened to act or sing or whatever as their job to keep a roof over their heads and clothes on their backs. They earn every single cent of that money by working sooo hard at their craft.
I've been playing the guitar and the piano for years, but I've never thought about playing jazz. After seeing Soul I tried to play something... Now I can't do without it !
this is pretty interesting problem that many seems to have struggle at some part of life. For example, when your dream becomes obsession, it stops being enjoyable and you literally try to force yourself forward. Without love for the things that makes you dream, not even the most beautiful things you make, wont be enough for you. And that makes you frustrated and angry even when things dont go as you had visualized. Soul teaches this lesson quite well. Freedom to dream is one of the best qualities that makes humans unique.

I wanted to be an opera singer, then I wanted to write songs for children's TV but everyone in the music department was going to teacher and my parents were teachers so I became a teacher. I can't complain. It's a lot of fun and while I hardly got views on my RU-vid channel, now I have a captive audience that has to see all the videos I spend hours making, lol! I'm right there with you Brian. Before the pandemic I was a working actor and had become a bit dissatisfying. At one point I had done 4 shows in one year nearly back to back. Then the pandemic hit and all I wanted to do was hunker down even more, but as the pandemic went on life started to happen. I met my girlfriend, I discovered voice over work myself, recording music and mixing music. Getting deeper in to my faith and closer in to my relationship with God. I more recently have come to the same conclusion. I had been so focused on being a performer, that I let life just pass me by and realized there is more to me than just the performer. This film was fantastic and I'm glad that this message is getting out there! It's not that i don't still want to be a performer, i absolutely do, but now my life feels richer for the new relationships and experiences I've had. As horrible as this past year has been, i look back and I can see where the blessings have been.

Watching Soul definitely put my dreams and goals into perspective honestly...I've repeatedly expressed a late passion of going into animation, and wanting to make animation as a career. But Soul is making me realize that I'm very close to turning the dream into an obsession. Doing animation classes through animation mentor, I keep hearing about how a professional animator is somebody who eats, breathes, and sleeps animation and the animation principles, practically shifting their viewpoints to observe the world as an animator. There is honestly nothing wrong with that, but I personally feel now that I don't want to become a guy whose life is defined by just one obsession. I want to stay as me...doing things that I love and feel proud of doing in. And if I can make a living out of animation, that's fine by me...but becoming a professional animator will not be my end all goal honestly.

I’m in a funny position where everyone in my family tells me that’s how it is; that I must power every once of my being into it or I won’t succeed or be happy or whatever, and I keep telling them that’s not how it works and i know that from watching others who have gone down this path before me. It’s funny how much the people who want to help you be happy can hold you back

It's astounding that Pete Doctor has successfully made many people rethink their purposes and to think of Deeper and more Metaphysical matters. -All is Vanity- The Scriptures of Ecclesiastes describes that emptiness of ambition in this life yet it also describes, just like this movie, that happiness can be restored if one can have a more stable sense of Hope.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thought about the topic of depression while watching this movie. Young teens and even kids deal with this topic on various levels, and this film beautifully deals with this in a smart, eloquent, and creative way. Thanks, Brian, for this wonderful video. 🙂

I’m a teen and I feel like I might be going through this journey currently. For years I had nothing I was passionate about, nothing (that I realized at least) that made me happy but I found passion in entertainment as well. Novel writing, and art, and even trying acting (which is really hard for me because I have bad anxiety and stage fright). I feel like this is my only reason for living, to make others dreams become real, to make others happy, I’ve never enjoyed something more than when I tutor my peers and see them happy with their higher scores. Thank you so much for making this. It helps me see a future for me that isn’t bland and repetitive. I’ve always been scared of losing myself in passion ( which in hindsight might be why I never got passionate about all the things I did) but I think as long as I’m making others smile bright and helping them with a better future or even a better day I’ll be happy. Thank you so much for showing me and helping me not force myself to obsess over one thing. Even if I turn out to be that weird old person with 5 cats that kids like to come to for ice cream i think I’d be happy. I know this was long and a bit odd considering I’m still growing up, but I really am grateful for you, you’re such an inspiration for me and for many others. You really point out an amazing message from this movie! I've often said that we need to have goals and aspirations and dreams and work towards them. But we make the mistake when we relegate our happiness and fulfillment to when we achieve them instead of being happy throughout the journey and not putting the onus all on a completed goal or dream. I totally agree with your take on Soul and have dealt with and still deal with many of the same things that you mentioned. I loved the film so much that I watched it a second time immediately after the first. And not trying to plug myself here, but I did a livestream talking about the same things because I didn't see enough people talking about it. Keep doing what you are doing Brian. I love soul ..I cry from the movie ..it give me feelings of living ..because I have epilepsy and feel so sad of having it but i have beautiful feeling of drawing ..so when I draw I feel happy..and when I saw soul ..give me happiness knowing I feel great drawing and living of happiness
Soul left an impact on me too. As an artist and also an Internet deejay on the net I know I had to learn to scale back my passion considerably when I first started doing the latter. I literally capitulated during two years into doing my radio show five days a week because I was pushing myself too hard to get in the shows without slipping up, This happened twice and I got very sick because of it. The passion is still there but now I can concentrate on it at a slower pace which my boss has granted over the last 10 years or more. I want to live every moment as Joe does at the end of the film but I can't until I get my shots for COVID.
I just finished watching Soul today. I find it interesting that I had a totally different reaction to this movie. I actually related more to 22 than I did Joe. Maybe not as much at the beginning of the movie when she acted like she hated everything. But toward the end when she became a lost soul because she thought that had no purpose that hit me hard. I can't relate to Joe as much because I have never really had that spark and I've felt like 22 did. Sure I've had interests in things such as Disney but I've never had the passion to pursue that one thing that some people seem to have like Joe. But what the end of this movie made me realize is that It's ok that I don't have a spark because life is more than that. I may not have that dream job that I strive to achieve for but instead I can just be me.
I haven't seen Soul yet. But in my profession we deal unconcious biases and have had actual training on how to recognize them. During the training I kept thinking of Zootopia. Recommended it to the instructor just because of the message it had. I'm glad that you found yourself. You're one of the few youtubers that I actually wondered what had happened to you. My 10 y/o daughter and I both love watching you. I mentioned you were back on and she even said that you were gone for a long time.
AMEN, BRIAN! I too am guilty of doing this (I believe many people are). Too often, we set so many unnecessary expectations on ourselves that we don't pay attention to who we are and our own needs. All it does is cause us to live in fear and extreme pressure. We're free to chase any dream as long as it doesn't hurt others or ourselves, but at the same time, we need to respect who we are as human beings created by God. Just think: A scuba diver doesn't walk around wearing scuba gear 24/7, right? Nor does a doctor live life wearing a lab coat and a stethoscope around his/her neck 24/7. They have more to their lives than their careers (family, friends, other hobbies, etc.), they're human beings like you and me! ✝️
I feel that many people also similarly get obsessed with the idea of being in a relationship. Same thing applies; that a relationship is not a end all be all to problems, and thinking like that, being desperate for it, will most likely lead to a problematic relationship. Definitely not a healthy mindset; for anything.
I've always been one of those people who never had something they were good at or even really enjoyed doing. So I feel a lot like 22 in that sense. I am jealous that other people just know what they want, but also glad that they get to enjoy the journey of working for their dreams.
I loved Soul and have watched it at least 3 times. My brother actually helped do some of the computer design, which I thought was awesome. Speaking of passion, I am pursuing my passion of being an actress. Once Covid is over and the world is somewhat back to normal, I'm going to go to as many auditions as I can, both for plays and musicals. My boyfriend and I eventually want to be on Broadway one day and are writing some musicals, plays and one-act shows.
Hi Brian, I've watched your videos and bring smiles and good humor. I'm glad your back and can relate with this video and by watching Soul. For a while now, I've lost my drive to illustrate or draw/paint. Because I've been caught up in trying to challenge myself by using other art styles. I, unfortunately, have a very cartoony?? and/or need to use outlines. I've been trying to make my pieces more realistic but then the fun or the spontaneous energy becomes less exciting. From watching Soul and also speaking with my therapist, I'm learning to be patient with myself and stay on cruise control cuz I feel content and not needing to show what I am. And when I want to create, I do it for me. You absolutely right to run your channel how you want and enjoy life 😊.

I get really into things and I keep hoping for the day I really "feel it" - whatever that satisfaction is that I've imagined in my head. This movie was a step in a completely different direction for Pixar. Soul was a very strong philosophical movie. So much so that it is more grown up than it’s typical audience. I don’t know that many kids got it.
I was really passionate about art but my school art teacher was really strick on me in class and would control me on what I would draw next. Because of this I lost my passion for art, I started thinking that my art wasn't good enough and it was rubbish. Then I stopped, it's been 2 year since I lost my passion and after watching soul, it opened my eyes to all my passions for everything I lost. I started drawing again and started living my life again. I can be more myself then ever before. I believe in myself when I create art, I know that what I do is my own style of how I create my life.
I really enjoyed Soul and the movie really spoke to me. It's hard to put into words what I felt when that movie was over, but Brian, you said it perfectly. I just kinda realized that I've been lost for a long time. Thank you for making this video.
I love this movie because it's so relatable to me, having dealt with mental health problems as well as struggling with what career I want, taking a break from school, changing my major and having trouble finding my dream job because I don't have enough credentials. This movie was so comforting and enjoyable, it made my soul (haha) feel so good and I'm so glad that Pixar is back to making original films. Oh dude. I watched it and fought tears when the message was becoming clear. I messaged a few of my buddies who also have kids and asked if they had watched it, knowing they would. I said when you do, watch out. Another Pixar masterpiece that will go straight to the core of your heart. Pixar writers are geniuses.
This is really inspiring and I love this topic and how you explain it. Some of the people in my life discourage me for what I want to do in my life but this can help me end up in that job and it helps me ignore them.

Why am I the only person who thought this movie was SOOOO boring? I wanted to love it, everyone else seems to love, but I was bored to tears and that makes me sad. :-(
I don't have the money to get Disney+ so I haven't seen Soul. This is the closest I'm going to get. Also Brian, I'm sure if you do requests, but there's a song that has NO COVERS which I believe would work wonderful for your next Character singing smash. It's called Who You Really Are from Balto 2. It's a beautiful song about self-discovery. It's also a bit of a metaphor for also discovering your roots. I hope you check it out and one day you'll do a cover. If not, I completely understand. I'm an aspiring RU-vidr and musician and I've been thinking kind of the same thing you had been: once I'm able to quit my part time job or whatever and do RU-vid full time, I will have made it. I will have accomplished my dream of becoming a RU-vidr. And, I don't *think* I've been romanticizing it; I certainly can talk about plenty of other things besides RU-vid and music and video games (those are the two main things I plan to make content about on RU-vid), but it will definitely be good for me to be able to keep all of this in mind so that I don't *become* obsessed in the future. Thank you for this video Brian; I definitely don't want to lose my way and lose sight of the fact that this *one thing,* my career, whatever, isn't *everything.* And certainly if there's going to be only one thing I'm focusing on, only one thing I can think about, I want it to be God. I had A LOT of phases of stuff i wanted to do. From being an Artest, D.J., Animator, actor, and Game Dev. And trust me i still wanna do those things. I still love all those things. And i know i can somehow mix all those into one. But Soul helped me realize that if i am able to do those things, i shouldn't expect that its gonna be what i wanted it to be. The movie made me cry because i could relate to it
