We Need To Talk About Starfield (Spoilers)

Great podcast! I listen every week. I actually love going through Unity. I'm on my 2nd character and I've been playing since launch. I basically followed BSG's lead and used the death of my companion as fuel to proceed to the next universe both for vengeance and as a way to correct the tragedy of the past. However, I allowed my character to fall under the spell of the Unity and succumb to the Hunter's motivations to gain power, all the while keeping Constellation's mission in focus to gain all the knowledge I could along the way. My playstyle was never nefarious and I used each NG (skipping the main story every time) to kinda get to know my companion again, in this case, Andreja. We never reached "relationship" status during the NG runs but we travelled together before starting the whole thing over. I thought of my Starborn character as a protector, which also explains his need for power. NGs 8-9 were alternate universes so I travelled alone which added to the head canon and I genuinely missed Andreja and the rest of Constellation during those two universes. I've finally reached NG+10 and I'll be settling here after replaying the whole main story. We'll reach "relationship" status before reaching the Unity and then the full commitment will happen after refusing to enter Unity and returning to the home universe. Seems like the proper thing to do. The world building will begin in earnest. I gotta say, though, having all the powers maxed out is amazing. My Starborn is beast. I highly recommend it. On a practical note, replaying the shortened storyline and doing all the temple runs wasn't as tedious as you might think. You can space it out a bit if you'd like. I'd spend about a week or two on each NG run. The funnest part of it though is discovering the best methods for doing the NG runs, how best to collect resources and weapons, earn credits, build up a functional ship, etc. You get pretty dang efficient at the whole procedure. Oh, and the final Masada/Buried Temple battle is so freakin fun and exhausting. It makes all the repeats worthwhile.

Normal gamer girl here. Nice to hear normal talk about starfield, without all the crazy 😂 I also found it way more fun to play a pirate dealer dirty-cop (im in the UC and FS, but half the ships i pirate are theirs). I was a goody until I'd gone a few times through the unity. Then i met "You?", my twin, and they were totally cool with killling sprees. So we are bad now 😅 Sometimes i will still help people, if their ship isnt worth the effort of selling. But selling Amp and selling UC ships back to the UC (minus crew, plus bloodstains) entertains me more!

Minor Spoilers. The hunter talks about seeing earth, so some realities have earth intact. The man who was handed the first relic, made the decision to leave a flaw in the early grav drive that messed up the Earth. The alt reality would be one where he/they fixed the flaw.

I'm on my first NG. I told constellation and now I have no friends and my spouse doesn't want to be manipulated cuz they're not the one I know. I go everywhere alone sometimes with Vasco. Im depressed and addicted to stimulants. I hate the unity and regret ever crossing. So basically my character feels like they lost part of themselves.

I enjoy your podcasts. I am level 297 and been through NG+ 4 times with one Alternate universe so far. Collecting powers building ships and outpost in every play through. Currently in a universe with out Constellation members. Loving it and picking up other named followers along the way for crew. I also play with various mods in each NG+ to keep things interesting. Still love the game with over 700 hours and four main characters at various levels. Only one through Unity so far.

3:07 you use to be able to buy heroine and a syringe from a sears catalog around the prohibition era, I’ve seen one of the magazines in a museum.

It has been interesting exploring a bit into the new game plus stuff. It really has two main paths to start with the skip or repeat main quest, and both can offer a bit of new dialogue options. What is also very neat is that faction side missions and some other side missions can also have a little bit of new "Starborn" dialogue. For me, it has allowed for some slight experimentations with one created character. Although, starting a new character has benefits since background and traits can have slight impacts on gameplay and occasional dialogue bits. Background and traits cannot be changed in new game plus.

This game is boring

My play-throughs start as setting up a manufacturing start-up in order to take the financial pressure off Walter Stroud. I use the money to finance the building and upgrading of a new Exploration Ship to replace the Frontier. It also generates a lot of XP to grow my character. Finding the best locations for all my outposts requires some exploration and transferring resources and delivering products gets me into space trucking. Once I have my outpost set up and a decent ship, I start on the smaller quest and work up to the larger ones.

NASA & ENTANGLED are (2) of the Levels that are the Most Difficult to Complete, because you get 'Lost & Confused' so many times, trying to Exit these Facilities after Completing those Quests!

41:49 I came at starfield with that mindset, but because of the foundational sandbox it gives you I’ve only have one character that made it to ng+ 1, all of my hundreds of hours have been spent making a rpg character role playing till I get bored then restarting the character, I’ve probably built a dozen or more characters rp them for a while till I get my fill then come up with another concept I wanna try. I keep telling myself someday I’ll go to ng+10 and rp there but I’m happy having a very mundane character without special powers

So many tough choices. My main is on ng+6 I think, I finally got an alternate universe, and all I have for crew are jobbers. Every time I try to have a naughty game, I end up making many of the same choices. I still have a challenge for myself to embrace the pirate's life, we'll see. As for the starborn choice I have consistently stayed on my own every time, because i feel like that is my best philosophical choice. There's a persuasion check at a point that does make it easier sometimes.

I should do a space trucking character. I used to weave an interactive story for my little brother about a space trucking pair of animals.

In early of my game play.. like level 9.. I talk to the Hunter at the bar at New Atantis and the bar at Akila City.. did any gamers had the same experience
