the 2nd yellow was for the challenge. not kicking the ball away. conflicts of interest like going to Saudi in a professional capacity, should disqualify oliver from reffing city ever again
Full independent enquiry into PMGOL, restructure to have ex footballers in charge of the panel, rules to be re-written to make the game more enjoyable to the fan and less controversial
Improve the standards? No idea, but in the meantime we need to win matches comfortably, so idiotic decisions by referees do not influence adversely Arsenal. I can remember when Arsenal played superb football with the likes of Henry that refs would make daft decisions against us, but we smashed much if the opposition anyway, so it generally did not matter.
Usually issues like these come from the top because the refs don't have a proper understanding of how to apply the rules that's why their is inconsistencies
Michael oliver refused to send off kovacic last season in the same match for the same situation as trossard because he didnt want to ruin the game @masterchief1520
For the last two seasons dodgy referring decisions have cost Arsenal the title. Liverpool faced the same thing when they were challenging City's dominance. Something needs to be done, it just looks like blatant corruption.
Especially when Mr Oliver got a cool 20k for “freelancing officiating” a game in Dubai as paid by Manchester City’s ownership. As per usual, City can’t help themselves from cheating. Their foundations are built on cheating and so they know nothing else but to cheat.
I thought he kicked the ball to end the half by punting it out. It was already more than the minimum 6 minutes added on. I would assume every Arsenal player in that situation will want to punt the ball as far away as possible when they get to the ball to end the half.
It’s true. I’ve always thought they introduce more rules and want more control over rules not to improve the game, but to have more control over outcomes
He works for the Abu Dhabi investment as he’s paid to officiate their (UAE) games and also games in the KSI. So he’s used to oil money and willing to ruin his reputation to bend over.
Also, for the people that are complaining about the free kick that led to our goal, go back and look at who actually moved the ball 10-15 yards away from the spot. Hint: It was a City player 🤯
It's nonsense, anyway. In what world does the referee make the team take the free-kick from the exact spot at which the foul starts? It's always where the fouled player is on the floor. The free-kick was taken from about a yard away from there. In any case, does taking a free-kick from a few yards further forward INSIDE YOUR OWN HALF really provide that much of an advantage?
@@rld1982literally, and then walker gets back, his defence gets set, and they still get scored on. that was less of a fault with the ref and his negligence and more due to Califiori’s being HIM
There are so many instances of ref decisions that have gone against us that i cant help but feel we are refereed differently. The newcastle goal last season, the double yellow card to martinelli, the rice red card
I think by boycotting the major premier league distributors like Sky Sports is one of the only ways to get change. It’s all about money after all, and as long as that’s still coming in, nothing will change. I cancelled my Sky sports already before the season and just stream all the videos. I just couldn’t take anymore of the idiotic punditry. It’s all just one big censorship show where none of the UK pundits can criticise the PGMOL. The American pundits today were absolutely going in on Michael Oliver for the red card. I just cba with these frauds and cheats.
@@TheGoonerverse21:48 I didn't see it for myself but someone said that the ball was move forward by a city player on the free kick for the first arsenal goal
There needs to be collective movement into a complete investigation into the PMGOL, not even as Arsenal fan just for the sake of football itself. They are completely ruining the game. The worse thing about the Trossard decision is he was given the yellow for delaying the restart which was not even a 'full second' after Oliver blown his whistle but the PMGOL have now changed the reason he was sent off for 'excessive force' for the foul on Silva. I mean it's genuinely laughable what we are seeing needs to be a full enquiry. It will cost us for sure😂😂. You literally couldn't write it! We have lost 4 pts from refereeing decisions already this season, literally 34 games left to play 🤣
If you have seen the movie "Sully", there is a very sensible thing said in it that in situation where humans are performing work with immense pressure, there has to be a consideration for human factor or human reaction time, what I mean is that these players are not AI's which have been fed computer programmes so that they would stop if they heard a whistle, there has to be some reaction time consideration, for this is a sport for God sake not a military routine.
City's owner paid Michael Oliver £20k to ref 1 game in 2023. Since then he's; Not given Kovacic' a definite red card against Arsenal Ignored Doku's flying kick on MacAllister Didn't award Chelsea a pen after Grealish' hand ball He's indirectly on City's payroll, he needs to be investigated not just city.
@@dontstartmateodegard basketball? Ref gifted the first chance. Martinelli abusing ederson he couldn't even move. HOLD THAT. Johnny Johnny stones. You'll never touch what we've won. Cope harder

James let’s have it right now… We can go back to the Sokratis disallowed goal Vs Palace at home. Chambers is fouled, falls into Palace defender and is subsequently judged to be fouling player so last minute winner chalked off. McArthur booting Saka, nothing given. We had Tomy being stamped on his head Vs Holgate and Goodison. Nothing given. We have the Luiz red card where he clearly doesn’t attempt to make a tackle and still gets sent off. We had the Odegaard penalty Vs City Jan 22 that wasn’t given yet in the same game an equally debatable one is given for City. We have the Brentford goal. Can’t forget the joke of a decision Vs Newcastle… Not just the goal but the sending off or lack there of for Bruno. Opening game of this season someone grabs Havertz by the throat… Nothing. These are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. It’s a disgrace and keeps happening. The most hated club in the land of that there is no doubt.
I've been saying this for a while: Referees and officials need to attest to their decisions after the game. They need to be afraid of making severe decisions that wrongfully impact the game. In all honesty, if this became normal, I truly believe that people would start to understand and even empathize with their (refs) opinion. More importantly, they'd realize that there needs to be more transparency, even if it is not in real time.
Because you are such a tactical master im so happy this is coming from you in a constructive way. If i was to articulate how i feel i would be here questioning some refs parents choices in life 🤷🏾♂️
If referees are influencing the outcome of matches, then we should have a separate scale for their performances too. A league table, "top scorers", something equivalent to XG for refs etc. Here's another free idea: someone should start a yt channel "The Audit", solely highlighting discrepancies and biases in refereeing decisions. Eg Michael Oliver not sending off kovacic last season because he "didn't want to ruin an exciting game" and then this trossard decision. Go hard. Content will go viral. Guaranteed. And we need to start putting referees and their decisions out there. Put a name next to these decisions, in bite sized, shareable content.
After the 2 reds and still hearing nothing from the 115 charges, I'm starting to think that maybe the Super League wasn't the worst idea. At least control from the owners would ensure FFP isn't ridiculously biased and refs may face penalties for their fuck ups.
the solutions should be fines on teams or players. this way there is plenty of time to watch the footage and consider all the factors before issuing a verdict and allow games to be played. this creates a stronger incentive to follow the rules without directly affecting the outcome of games.
I need some Gooners who know Michael Oliver’s home address to do us a big favor. They should have a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of wine and a note saying “Thank you for always being you to us” with a subscription of “The Gooner around the World”. Honestly I’m tired of this league and it’s poor and inconsistent officiating. Why always us?? Those mfs (PGMOL) should be made to be responsible and having fans have direct conversations with them. They are getting away with things so easily that goes on to affect the outcome of a season for the victimized club(s).
Hi James, great content young man..I’ve watching Arsenal for 41 years and I gotta tell you yes, we’ve been refereed differently from any other premier league teams..if a rule is introduced, Arsenal is the first to feel the full brunt of it..which is an underlined biasness towards the club
James I think you’re finally on the right line of questioning. I’m amazed it took you so long to decide PGMOL isn’t impartial in the least bit. The Martinez example, imo backed by the state of game play at Old Trafford between an in form Arsenal and a rubbish MU, shows the refs know exactly what they want to do. If it’s not Man City then it’s the other Manchester club they want to c dominate. PGMOL has made the EPL not fit for global consumption. The whole league has become so cosmo yet PGMOL still has the same homogeneous demographic. Not being racist here but how can you trust a uniform demographic running an organisation to be impartial and fair?
We really do need a challenge system, managers should be allowed at least one challenge per half where the referee has to be forced to go to VAR even if it's not a red card offence. The referees have too much power.
I love this channel. Sensible discussion backed by facts and a holistic look on the game. Refs do like to make decisions against us to prove a point or to shine light on an obscure technicality. After rice was sent off, I said we'd never see a second yellow for that ever again. I was wrong. I should've said we'll never see it for a team other than arsenal.
The time keeping is what blew my mind most of all. I get the 6 first half extra minutes, but he allowed 8 and it was only then that Trossard got the bs red. But to give 7 extra minutes in the second half?! There was no goal, no reviews, no lengthy stoppages, even in the Brighton/NF match earlier in the day which had all the above, there was only 4 extra minutes. So, Arsenal stay resolute after these ridiculous 7 minutes but Oliver refuses to blow the whistle. He gave City as much time as they needed despite the game properly ending.
Case in point, Arteta said: "You didn't ask one single question about tactics", instead they focused on the red card. The referee made the game about him, a recurring factor with PGMOL becoming the centre of attention because of their lack of common sense, consistency and understanding required to govern a football match. It's easy to compare to, just look at any other league or the Champions League and see how the officiating standards differ. PGMOL is atrocious and we've all been saying it for the last two to three years now. How on earth does jumping on someone with two feet, handling a ball outside the box TWICE, grabbing someone's wrist pulling them back in the penalty box go largely unpunished. Yet, a player looking to pass the ball on is sent off. Trossard didn't even clear that away out of frustration or to time waste. It's clear as mud he had already committed himself to find Martinelli on the wing with a long ball and got caught by the whistle just as he was setting himself up to pass it. No time to register to stop himself from doing what he does automatically every single day of the week. This is what James means by a lack of common sense. Instead, ref provides a red and that's the end of an entertaining game, ruined by poor officiating. It's frankly beyond pathetic, it's become an ongoing joke.
It's time that the PGMOL come out and explain their actions, from how they select officials to why officials have made decisions in game. I have said for 2-3 years now that there is an abundance of officials selected from the north of England yet nobody from London and further south. The officials selected in big games where Arsenal and City are concerned often come from Greater Manchester which personally shouldn't happen. City fans would be the first to complain of potential bias if a London based official cost them points against Arsenal or any London based team, and rightly so. On the field, the officials should be micd up and explain their actions in real time. Also VAR should intervene in moments where the ref is acting in a biased manner and should stop with the look afyer yourself bs. The game is about the players and fans, not the bloody officials.
Pundits and pgmol justifying these second yellows as though delaying a restart by 5 seconds? warrants SENDING A PLAYER OFF the field of play and ruining the whole spectacle and one of the best games in the world. Meanwhile elbows in the face and 2 footed challenges aren’t even looked at. Bias or not, no other job in the world you can be this “bias”(poor or corrupt) without any reviewing or judgement and just continue to make these decisions. When rivals say that wasn’t a red you know Olliver the pomp can’t help but become the headline whether he was bribed or not it makes no difference. Both half’s he played about a minute and a half more than stoppage time. There’s no need for consistency. Pgmol has ruined my love for this league, and if we win anything it will always be despite everything going against us. A rival match with loads of challenges and he sends a player off for something that petty. Pathetic. If the law is this stupid it needs to change, someone tell these pgmol idiots we don’t care about how much power they have or much they want their assholes licked, we all want to watch highly competitive matches with everyone playing. They literally tried everything this week to make us lose with 2 ridiculous red cards, horrendous scheduling for only us and we still didn’t lose, super proud of Arsenal but not sure how long I’ll continue caring to watch this league if it feels fixed. Never see this letter of the law crap applied to Manchester teams surprisingly but I’m told repeatedly it’s bias or ineptitude. What a ridiculous farce to make this the line they’re drawing. Time fucking wasting about 5-10 seconds. Not sure when pgmol become this dictatorship or why but there’s nothing we can do about these? There’s literal proof of them applying the law differently to us. Arsenal should Sue the pgmol, I’m sure the other wronged clubs will come out and join. If you told me we’d go to the etihad get a red end of first half and walk out of there with 1 point I’d take that without hesitation but the way the game panned out makes it clear, we are always facing the refs along with the opposition.
Listening to Talk Sport this morning... it was ok that Halland barged into Gabriel, and for him to through the ball at his head after they scored. But Trossads challenge should have been a yellow in itself. It's amazing how these people are viewing decisions that go against Arsenal. Personally, I think they softening up football way too much. Obviously there should be a caution for delaying a game, but a guy that is in full flow and is making challenges gets a yellow for following through. Also, the Newcastle game from 2 seasons ago James. 3 inconclusive decisions that you wouldn't see anywhere else!
I cannot see a reason why the pool of referees isn't thrown open to Europe and beyond. If a Japanese referee speaks good English and has demonstrated good communication skills, let them live here and referee. Same for Netherlands, Germany etc etc. Let it be an open market. This will massively increase the standard across the board.
With any other ref that match ends 2-1. Trossard likely wouldn’t be sent off. The whistle would have blown after the proper first half added time. The whistle would have been blown after the absurd extra 7 minutes.
Also to say that IF man c fans wanna talk about where the free kick was taken, it was actually from where B Silva travelled with the ball AFTER the whistle went. Is that delaying a restart?
A win away at Villa and Spurs and a draw at City seem like a good return, though we now need to win the upcoming matches against relatively lower placed teams.
Arsenal is hated because we are different. We are gentlemen and classy. There is this aura around the team that is uncommon and attracts hatred. I love Arsenal for all that. Ladies love us for that. I am Arsenal forever ❤
Its not poor officiating or inconsistencies 😂😂, these blokes take us for a joke. I bet if an enquiry is done you'll see clear sentinements with a lot of thesw decisions
The ball placement for the free kick is a myth. There were two fouls and walker wanted it taken from the first one for some reason and the free kick was taken pretty close to where the second one happened.
There is no way the standard could possibly be this bad. It's not something adults could be this incompetent at. It's corruption it's so glaringly obvious but people are to scared to have that awkward conversation and dismiss it vigorously and without any explanation as to why they are ruling it out.
Also this time Trosard is with back towards play , also the Man C player is on The ground simulating injury , nobody is trying to restart the game and is 2 minutes after given extra time
I wish the Premier League hired the best refs from around the world. The best players from around the world play in the EPL , so why not get the best refs? I also think a sin bin might be a good idea for things like 'delaying the restart'. Red cards are simply too harsh for minor things like this and spoil the matches.
Why are only referees in charge of improving refereeing? They can’t be impartial, much less effective. They don’t put players or owners in charge of the FA. Ridiculous!
Michael Oliver was paid 20,000 pounds by the City owner and flown down to Abu Dhabi to ref a game. How is he still allowed to referee their games? How much more blatantly are you going to cheat us. Friendly reminder: Michael Oliver was flown to Dubai last year to referee games by the owners of Man City.
I was fine with Rice's card because I believed Rice could tell where the brighton player was and kicked the ball away. The reason Trossards should not be punished is because B.Silva was injured on the freekick spot. It was not a deliberate attempt to slow the game down or block a freekick. It should have been held at the same standard as Doku's and Pedro's. If a player is injured can't you kick a ball away when you believe they're getting treatment?
I have never seen a team have their hands held so much through out a season ever Man city are like league owners or something we all need to stand together and strike Infront of their headquarters .
I heard Pep congratulate Arsenal for the way we defended and admitted that he did not think that his team could have done that. I thought tha0t was magnanimous anyway.
Tbh James im starting to agree, I dont even like blaming refs but certain things need to be answered, like why are players against us not being booked for kicking balls away on numerous occasions? Why is common sense only being used in some instances and not others? What really frustrates me about this and what needs to be put to Howard Webb is why he came out last year defending Oliver after the Arsenal v Man City game after Kovacic should have been sent off, he said Oliver didn't want to "ruin the spectacle", so why did that apply then but on this occasion hes actively chosen to ruin the game at an earlier point? It literally makes no sense. Regarding the added on time, I didn't know about the opta stat so that will be interesting to see what is said around that, im also confused about how sometimes time is added on to the added time but in other games ive literally seen teams against us faking injuries, time wasting etc and the ball is barely in play in the added time yet the whistle goes bang on time? Dont get me wrong ive seen extra time added on for us too (rice goal vs luton for example) but its still another inconsistency. Finally on to this new 'directive', its another rule that seemingly hasn't be thought through because the people implementing the rules and how they are enforced have not played football, as Arteta said if this is to be used this way every game for every team and we are booking players for kicking the ball away on the whistle then we will have so many games with multiple sendings off. The rule should be used for enforcing what it's supposed to and that's 'delaying a restart', kicking the ball away when a team is breaking away and trying to take a quick free kick, standing in front of the ball deliberately stopping a quick restart, these are examples of where it should be used, however if there is a free kick given on the edge of the area for example and someone kicks the ball away is that delaying a restart? Not really because at the point the defensive team would need to make a wall and set up, the attacking team would have to set up whos taking the free kick etc so has the ball being kicked away delayed the game? No! So how can someone be bookef for it under that ruling? Same with trossard, city weren't looking to take a quick free kick so how was it delaying the game? The PGMOL now need to decide whether they are actually booking people for delaying a restart or if they are just booking people for kicking the ball at any point after the whistle is blown, they are 2 completely different things and they haven't thought it through by the looks of it.
Last season at the Emirates the same ref didn’t want to send Kovacic for a second bookable offense because he didn’t want to have a negative impact on the game. Common sense needs to be the directive. If not a lot of games this season by the letter of the law will see sending offs, not really something most want to see
none of it makes snese..... they just add the time on the end anyway. fine the player 100k for charity, and add 1 minute on, each time a player deliberately stops a restart or kicks the ball away.
Michael Oliver has given Arsenal more red cards than any other team in the EPL. Need I say more? Last season chief clown, Howard Webb said , “Of course, the referee, Michael, will no doubt review that and he doesn’t want to have a negative impact on the game by overreacting to something, What changed?
I thought the red was a red by the rules and the first goal should not stood. I think the reason doku wasnt given a card was because in the refs head he thinks city are attacking and therefore are not time wasting on purpose. Inconsistency is a problem but i think the result was fair in the end
At least Xhaka isn't the only player to get a red card for a professional foul on the half-way line, any more. Jack Stephens got one for Southampton against Man U the other week, to cries of "he connected with Garnacho's knee". Nobody actually knows what the laws of the game say. There's nothing that says if you connect with x body part that must be a red card for "serious foul play". It's about being "reckless" or "endangering an opponent". Neither of the tackles mentioned met those criteria.
It's impossible for PGMOL to be unbiased - they are an organisation of referees for referees. The performance of matchday referees needs to be independently assessed and regulated.
No chat about PGMOL anymore. This is how arsenal have to win the league. Arsenal will get this referee decisions - its because there is a cannon on our crest and we are called the gunners. Just think about that with american kids taking guns and killing people in schools and in public. Honestly most human beings don't understand that its a tube stop. They also hate us because Arsene Wenger was French and changed the game. Arteta is changing this lets please just trust in him and I am sure Wenger will soon come and back him after the 115 charges. It will happen again and again - Liverpool and Manchester are basically music.
James, let's get back to basics which overrules all things. The job of the referee is to ensure the safety of the players on the pitch. This is a paramount and what every ref is taught. The refs are not even doing this basic thing every week and makes a mockery of every other decision and non-decision that comes thereafter. It has become a talking point with all fans every week about refs rather than the game, with a side note of ref decisions. Fans 15 years ago didn't have a platform to express their thoughts, but now they do. Unfortunately the bigger content providers on a whole, who have the opportunity to be on the "main stream" peeps just fall in line with the programme script and agenda.
For starters stop calling it inconsistency when its blaitent Curruption. City where not meant to lose yesterday by any means. Hence the red card and the city scoring in the 99th min when there was only 7 mins. If City hadn't scored they would have still played on.
Now that the dust has settled anf reality is sinking in, we must remember that we are now 2 pts behind City. Reason being 2 poor refereeing decision. We have to get our beast mode on and realise that we are playing against 12 players.
Only me James… just would really appreciate it if you could maybe chat or look in to this opinion of mine. Do you think haaland knew how bad the Rodri injury was and he was looking at where he could/would really hurt Arsenal. And knowing parteys injury record not being great a with the amount of football being played he targeted partey at full time maybe to injure him. Ive waiting on this opinion to see if anyone has spoken about it, but they haven’t. Could you please maybe give it some time in your next show please. 🙏🏼
also he could of blames partey for the challenge on Rodri even tho it wasn’t his fault at all. Just feel like once they had the goal and he was safe he took that opportunity with both hands.
Its called PR for good reason considering there is an actual guide-book authored by an American Propaganda and Marketing pioneer named Edward Bernays and also happens to be a "firm"favorite at SKY Sports and most mainstream media outlets. If the lie is said enough it slowly starts to gain traction until it wound like there is some truth to the least aware.
Refs have corrupt since the beginning of time. Research retired NBA refs who come out after they retire and talk about it. Just the other day a Copa America ref came out and finally admitted he didn’t give Nessi a second yellow and send him off in a massive game in exchange for his jersey afterwards. Which Messi did in secret in the dressing rooms. Messi went to the final against Brazil and won a championship in a game he shouldn’t have been playing in. For a jersey let that sink in! For a jersey! Mic the refs at all times problem solved because he talked to him about it in the moment on the field!
The health and success of the game will suffer. It looks like they seem to do it to create clicks when they review it afterwards. It's not savvy, and it's at our expense atm. But it happens to other teams too, like wolves, last season. It's actually biased to give out yellow cards to one team for behavior that you don't call a foul when the other team does it in the same game. There is no way for players to know what's going to be called. And VAR intervenes on yellow cards when they want to (like the Declan Rice one).
I feel like fans complaining will acheive nothing, i feel like when a seriously bad decision gets made from now on the players instead fighting each other and arguing with the ref both teams just walk off and refuse to play again until its refed properly get a new a team of refs, its a joke the players must be super frustrated more than the fans are ffs
15:32 James, the tribalism in football means nobody will ever answer that question honestly. And that's why we're stuck here. I blame the fans for this and then the pundits.
What's the net result of these decisions regardless of the reasons? WE ARE ALL TALKING ABOUT THE PGMOL - if this was all part of their PR strategy, then it has been a success.
Im only a couple mins in but i have to say with these decisions were getting: arsenal are the team that everyone in the country, in fact the whole world, is looking at the most and studying the most and praising the most and scrutinising the most, the football world is going crazy about arsenal and watching closely so before games the refs must be having a talk and saying things like: " arsenal keep trying to get an extra few yards in throws and corners every time we better keep a close eye on that and stamp it out early" or " they keep wasting time in every game we have crack down them" and more, whereas other teams are not watched so closely so the refs think "oh theyve done this one time just let it slide for now", if this is not the case then there is clearly an agenda like wenger was saying for many years it started straight after we won the invincibles, again ots eveeyone in english football got in a room and said "right, never again is this happening, we will collectively do everything we can to stop them winning again". In both cases this is the definition of a conspiracy (a group of people planning against someone or to do something)
Last year they did not send Kovacic off twice. There explanation was that they didn't want to ruin the game. Clearly that logic was not applied today🫡🫡🫡🫡
