Hats off to Josh and Jakob for making this a refreshing and fun era of middle distance running. Everyone has their opinions but in 10-15 years we're all going to look back at this time as special.
Agreed.... People might call Jakob childish and maybe that might be right. But this is exactly what Track & Field has needed for decades to increase viewership and excitement for the sport
Kinda think his injury might be a way of avoiding indoors and focusing on outdoors without getting the spotlight of “skipping indoors” kinda like some athletes I races in high school would get injured a week or two before a peak race then show up and race perfectly healthy 😂
I think everyone forgot that Kerr was trashing Jakob and saying every big win he was paced for. But anyone watch the race? Kerr had a pacer and then let Fisher carry him until the last few laps. Bozo.
kerr is a bozo. kerr has been trash talking nonstop, he started it all. He beat Jakob when he was sick and Jakob has beaten kerr over and over and over again. kerr is nuts.
The difference here is Kerr was just pointing out a weakness in Jakob's racing strategy, he never said having a pacer was bad, just that that is the only situation where Jakob seems to run well.
The key being "every big win". Josh Kerr won the World Championship. He wasn't saying he wasn't himself going to use pacers in other races, just that Jakob looks less special without them.
I think Jacob is great but I don’t think he has the kick that kerr has and I don’t think that Jacob can run from the front the whole race because you lose a second a lap front running. 1500 I mean. Jacob 5k yeah and maybe 2mile also indoor but I don’t know. Think 4-5 could win the 1500. I’m not sure how Jacob can win it without a pacer. I’m not saying he’s not a great athlete and he might even be capable of 1500wr (with a pacer) which kerr possibly can’t break (although this last race of his maybe raises that possibility). I like Jacob’s confidence, but I’m not sure if responding like that is the best way unless he can really back it up. However, maybe he 4:33 can and we shall soon find out. I still think Jacob’s got quite a bit better chance in the 5K though. My 5k is 25 mins aged 53 so what the heck would I know!
It's getting pretty crazy and it's only February! Let's be absolutely clear about one thing........Men's 1500m Olympic Final is; Tuesday 6th August at 9.00pm (Paris time).
What I think is stupid is that Josh Kerr poked at Jakob for using pacers for his world records, but Josh Kerr's 2 mile he was behind Grant Fisher the whole time till the end.
Would be a shame if netflix or Amazon does not pick up this Story no matter the outcome in Paris. This is pure gold for running sports on track. They know what they do. Good boys 😉
Why is this being blown out of proportion? The only reason people claim there's beef is because of the media and not themselves. People keep asking them, and eventually, they end up saying something, mostly because they get tired of more questions about it. It's the same phenomenon with Ronaldo and Messi. They actually get along fine. But it's the fans who create a rivalry atmosphere, not the players themselves.
That is true, the fans are absolutely a nightmare to deal with, I actually would have been fine with Jakob before (but then I saw the video of that 1 5k championship race or whatever it was, where Jakob waved his hands to the crowd in a cocky way 150 meters left to go and then I realized Jakob isn't this "amazing angel" guy people think he is) but the fans made me absolutely wanted Jakob to lose. It's the same with Katelyn Touhy fans, they all talk trash about every one else aside from their favorite. I like Josh Kerr but I don't go around saying "oh look at that he made Grant Fisher look like he was jogging ahahahahhahahha"
Kerr started this beef. He's been talking sh*t for like 2 or 3 months now, even down[playing Jakob's Olympic Gold medal. Jakob remained quiet for most of that time, and since he's not a big social network person he may not have even been aware of it till it hit Norway papers. He was probably like WTF, and it's on after that. So Kerr started in and in one interview he said I hope Jakob here's this. Well Kerr got what he was asking for so now lets see if he can handle what he gets. Plus you in the press have been praying for this, so this channel must be very happy! But one thing I know from following Jakob for so many years and watching every one of the Team I. is that Jakob doesn't get intimidated and he's always been cocky confidence since he was 11 and he thrives on competition, he got that fire from competing against the Africans from and early age and he's been competing in World Championships since he was 15. What Kerr did with all the talk early on just became bulletin Board material for Jakob. So now it's on! and lets not forget it isn't like Jakob failed in the last two World Championships. He is after all the double 5k Champ against the best of Africa and he won two silvers. Much more impressive than Kerr's one win in those two world championships!
@terraflow__bryanburdo4547 That said, once an elite becomes "made", they will rely more on racing as a calibration tool rather than an establishment tool, and therefore, reduce reliance on racing.
Really seems like they are making up the back and forth banter just for the extra spotlight on both of them. Which is working and kind of fun to follow.
I’m not sure he is at 1500m I mean he can run it fast but can’t front run as you lose a second a lap and can’t oit sprint kerr on a slo race. I think above 2k yeah but not sure he’s got the absolute speed at 1500. That’s not to say he isn’t world class. With a pacer he might break the 1500wr but the olympics can be won running slow….
Kerr's beaten Inge once, right? Who's that blabbing nonsense @ the 3-min mark? Hello? Does anyone remember Kerr promptly getting outkicked by Nuguse in Kerr's next race after the WC? Kerr even had 2 pacesetters in the Zurich race specifically to help him break the Brit record in the 1500 - after the pacers fell off, Kerr couldn't keep up with the pace lights and got outkicked by Nuguse for Nuguse's 2nd DL win of the summer. And after Inge broke another WR the next weekend, Kerr was suddenly "too tired" to run in the Pre Classic, where Inge narrowly missed his 3rd WR of the summer and set his 2nd ER of the summer in the 3K. Kerr's probably been running double thresholds ever since he got smoked in the Oslo 1500, where he finished...9th?!?
Ngl I love me some trash talk, especially when it is between some of the best. I'm a newer fan to Josh and love how well he has been doing, but I do think Jakob will go down as one of, if not the best ever.
Really need the rivalry in the sport right now. Both athletes are exceptional. Coe and Ovett in the 80s were brilliant to watch. Coe the record breaker, Ovett the gutsy runner. Let’s hope they race each other a few times and don’t dodge.
I remember watching Kerr at the NCAA's a few back and thinking, "that dude have some dog in him". The way he went to the well to win was amazing to watch. I knew, if he stayed in the sport, he'd be an Olympian and/or WC someday.
@troys1480 .....Sure did; but had to pull it back up to refresh my memory. Funny thing, the 1600/1500 collegiate recond holders historically don't win the NCAAs.
With statements like this coming out through the written press, you do have to be careful about jumping to conclusions. Being a journalist myself, I know that journalists often make statements seem more exciting, or take them out of context. Josh Kerr said it himself the other day in an interview with Letsrun: "If we (athletes) talk to you for an hour, you offcourse will find some Interesting quotes.” Clearly, with the ‘trash talk hype’, journalists are now fishing for juicy quotes from these two. So don't take everything Jakob or Josh say too seriously until you hear them say someting on camera.
Kerr is the instigator. Kerr's slander is full of personal attacks. Jacob's comment was about what he could do and did not remark anything slanderous about Kerr. Clearly Kerr is an asshole and he is one of very people at this level who is so disrespectful toward another competitor. Social media pricks are trying to turn this into something they can monetize. It may be good for your pocket book, but it is not good for the sport. Keep it professional children.
Sorry, never giving credit to anything your competitors do, is being an asshole. Kerr wins World Championship gold, Jakob claims injury, despite running 3.29. Kerr breaks a world record, Jakob claims he could run under 8 minutes for 2 miles, indoors (usually about 3 to 5 seconds a mile slower), blindfolded. Just makes Jakob look super needy.
Amazing coincidence: Last year we had a beef between KERley and JACOBs. Now we have a beef between KERR and JAKOB. I just hope this doesn't end up like last year when neither was present in the final
Idk who is aware of the plot of Surfs Up, but this is it. Josh Kerr is the main penguin (Cody) who is alright, and Jacob is the big guy with the trophies (Tank). These two will be battling head to head at the Olympics to decide the best 1500 runner. But the guy who wins the surf contest in Surfs Up is Chicken Joe, and you may be wondering who that is. It’s Yared Nuguse. I’m done with the trash talk, I just wanna see Yared show them up.
I think that Jakob has historically proven himself stronger (ie quicker) but defeats to Kerr and Wightman in recent championship finals show that he is less versatile if the race becomes tactical. Kerr currently has the momentum but if this carries on to Paris is anyone's guess.
2022, don't you mean Wightman? He lost to Kerr in 2023. My point is track racing is not about 'the clock'. Jakob tries to grind his opponents down but that makes him vulnerable if the tactic doesn't work.@@RUNISFAST
Could not care less about the drama, anyone who has seen gym rats on too much testosterone injections knows the exact same behaviour in Kerr, some athletes are too obvious with it and lack a bit of self control, a bit like some UFC fighters in the past especially during the TRT exemption era The real takeaway point here is that an enhanced athlete is overachieving, his consistency cannot last long and his mouth is trying to make the most of what he has now before he gets caught etc Never liked Kerr , overconfident from doping and a narcissist, this from an Englishman who always cheers on the UK athletes but some people just give you the bad vibe and in athletics thats really quite rare, who else do I dislike in the sport over the last decade? cant think of anyone to be honest
Indoors....SO WHAT! Kerr is peaking early....thats good for Jakob.....lets not forget a healthy Jacob has yet to be beaten....he's still the danger man!!!
Kerr literally said he wasn't running particularly well, when he ran the 8.00.67, hence why he sat behind Fisher so long. Because it was his first race of the year.
The trick being that he's now a 3.29 runner (potentially 3.28 the way he looks this season) with a brilliant final Jakob can't compete with. Sounds like a pretty good trick. One Ingebrigtsen's got a way harder task than his fans pretend, getting the better of.
I'm predicting that Ryan Crouser is going to stop doing the shot put and is going to win the 1500, 5K, 10K and marathon at the 2024 Olympics, setting new world records by massive margins in every event. And he's also going to take the gold medal in the pole vault, but not with a world record. Additionally, he's going to take medals, but not the gold, in breakdancing and equestrian show-jumping. Furthermore, after these devastating losses, I predict that Ingebrigtsen will rage quit and retire in shame, and Kerr will identify as a woman and begin competing in rhythmic gymnastics. Those are my predictions, and I am 100% certain they will happen exactly as I've described.
Just bring it 🎉. WR, your turn. Talk the talk, walk the walk. He’s hurting, tripping on the fact that a WR was done. I’m waiting for you at the Olympics!
6:19 Damn, Kerr running a 1.01.51 half marathon is impressive. Mo Farah's European record is 59.07. But Andy Butchart's PB is 1.02.15 and he's the Scottish record holder at 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m (and holds the world Park Run record).
I have learned that any negativity directly at other athletes in our sport has never been a good thing. Having two athletes at this level is good for the sport. Treating each other like children is not. The level of sportsmanship in track and field is what differentiates track from the trash talking high gloating team sports we see on mainstream media.
Expect trash talk from sprinters. I don’t necessarily expect trash talk from middle distance and distance runners. Does this make the sport better? I don’t think so.
If anything you'd expect it more from middle distance runners, since they can actually interact with each other and impact each other's strategy and race, on the track, by how they position themselves and when they go.
Kerr’s starting to act like he did back in ‘18 when he was @ UNM after he broke the NCAA 1500m record - watch/rewatch the 2018 NCAA men’s 1500m final to see how that season finished
Jakob is still a kid and improving each year just because he’s getting older and of course due to accumulative training. He will always win a time-trail style world record attempt. Jacob will beat this WR next indoor season and better his other PB/WRs.
This is great 😂 definitely all round good for the sport even though there will obviously be people that just prefer friendly sportsmanship at all times, this will greatly bring up excitement for the the Paris 1500m
I hate how people act like indoor and outdoor are completely different worlds. Kerr ran 8:00 indoors, Jakob ran 7:54 outdoor, solo… why are we acting like Jakob couldn’t beat the shit out of Josh. Even if you convert the indoor record to outdoor, it’s still not even close to Jakob…
Trash talk is trash talk. There is no "crossing the line". That''s what trash talk is all about. If you are not "crossing the line", its not trash talk.
Waiting for you to talk about yared. Naguse going from 3:53 to 3:43 in one year while missing two drug tests - compare this improvement to any other athlete in the history of the mile - help me understand the anomaly- I’m listening
How is it impressive to beat a man with an injury, who broke with his coach, who is also his dad and accused of abusing Jakob and his brothers? There's no way that Kerr was facing peak Ingebrigtsen.
This is not healthy for sport. This is ruthless competition. Unfortunately is one of the true faces of athletics. Hope it does not end like Fred Kerley and Lamont Marcel Jacobs.
The fact Josh Kerr has a faster half marathon PB than Andy Butchart is wild. Given Andy's Scottish 3,000m, 5000m and 10000m records. Could Kerr actually hold the Scottish record for every event from 1,500m to 10,000m if he wanted. Maybe Jakob isn't the only one with endurance.
You don't understand this humor, Kerr has slaughtered Jakob without a comment, here he answered people in Norwegian press that he know well, and Jakob often to them has short comments with a sence of humor and twinkle in his eye, but when you don't have the pickture and the situation, but here you have just translated the short comment to English and taken this a bit to serious I think. Calm down, Jakob is a unusually kind and considerate young man with a big sence of humor and practicle jokes who don't want to hurt anyone.
Kerr's beef is only 'unprevoked' if you consider JI's 'just the next guy' comments from Budapest to be too long gone, otherwise Kerr's comments about him being arrogant and surrounded by yes men are actually pretty sound, Tokyo comments aside which forget full race. JI's 2023 comments were actually really silly because he hasn't won a world 1500 title yet and he should know that being ranked fastest counts for little at championships. 55 men, including 2 Norwegians, actually ran faster than him over 5000m in 2023 so his 'next guy' comments were irony free! He was 'just the next guy' and then some in the 5000m by his own logic. Maybe the question about the record scaring him rubbed him up the wrong way and produced a sour response. JI knows the pro game, Kerr picked the 2 mile distance for the exact reason JI did in Paris, it was kind of an exhibition distance due a good overhaul. He clearly rates Kerr's run, or else why say he can run with him now, but wasn't given a leading question to express that. If he broke his 1500m indoor world record, he'd be worried.
