I'd put Kipyegon on top. 5000m world record followed by the mile world record by 5 seconds is pretty outstanding to me. Yeah, the 5000m record got broken but she still had it for a bit.

The Arkansas women's relay record is also interesting bc it happened at altitude! The Albuquerque Convention Center is somewhere around 5300 ft. The origin of this track is also interesting. It was apparently purchased 3rd-hand, in New/Unused condition, from cold storage in Canada for half the track's retail value. The Canadians apparently acquired it from the LA Staples Center who purchased the track originally but rejected delivery.

I would like to mention one thing, of the ten only two are not raisers, and none of them in the top five.Armand Duplantis dominated the entire indoor season and set a World Record.He did not enter the EC indoor in Istanbul .He dominated the summer season ,defended his WC title,thereby becoming the third men pole vaulter in history to do so.He not only set a World Record in the Diamond League final, but also won with 41cm over number two and atleast a half of a meter over the rest.That should have given a better place than number 8.

TRP. Many thanks for the amasingly high quality of your videos/production this year. I've been telling people I know to watch your channel. (Just to ignore the headlines. Ha!) Yes, I've been a dickhead at times when pointing out things I don't agree with. But I do attempt to be constructive. Great list of performances. I liked that you included both Shot Put and Pole Vault performances in the list. No, I don't agree with you re Mixed Country Relay performances. I'm not putting down the individual performances in the relay but at almost any time a promoter could organise a group of top runners from different Countries to race a Relay... and possibly break a World Record. Get a couple of athletes sprinters from US and Jamaica together and presto! An issue with Marathon World Records is the different Courses. Essentially, we have a whole host of Course Records. Providing the Course remains EXACTLY the same, we can plot improvements. But comparing the top Marathon course eg London, Berlin and others, there are always going to be aspects that favour one over the other. eg Tarmac, camber, elevation rise/fall, wind protection etc Re Indoor Track. Again, all tracks are not equal for Indoors. Some are quite a bit faster than others, due to the different types of construction and materials used and thus the assistance given to the athlete. Plus, a huge percentage of World top runners simply do not run Indoor Track. The 200m Indoor Track requires a different balance to a 400m Outdoor Track. That is why the performances on Indoor Tracks cannot really be equated with Outdoor times. The USA puts a much greater emphasis on Indoor Track due to their College/University programs. Most Countries don't even have Indoor Tracks! These nuances seem to be overlooked by the viewers. Anyway, Cheers TRP. Go 2024 Olympics!!

@_MicZ_
@_MicZ_ 4 месяца назад
It's also unfair to say Britton's 4x400m split time would have beaten Femke's WR, as split times shouldn't be compared to full 400m times, especially when you're not starting from the blocks. But I guess we shouldn't complain as most US-based T&F RU-vidrs wouldn't even mention Femke Bol...

All these efforts are tantamount to an otherworldly out of body experience if indeed there is such a thing in athletics. However, Tigist Assefa’s WR exceeds an on par with that of Kelvin Kiptum’s. With earth shaking performances by women like this we find the men scrambling to stay ahead of their epic strides, and to think they were once banned from this event. They should allow women of this caliber to start with the elite men. It’s all about fairness and equality in the sport now, so high time we show it. Why have male pacers when they could be in lock step with elite men from the start if they prefer? This WILL happen again until the bar is raised appropriately in recognition of women.

i dont really like the 1 cm world record at a time by duplantis, cuz of the same reason you said, he can go higher the problem i have with this and maybe Duplantis will regret it too later on, is that there will come a time that his abilities will go downhill, so when that happens he will have a world record at a certain height that couldve been higher had he tried to go to the max when his form and abilities were at his top. but yea its kinda tradition as Bubka also did it this way. who knows Bubka could also have had a higher jump had he tried going to the max when he was on his top.

@fionnbracken
@fionnbracken 4 месяца назад
This year he improved his WR twice, each time by 1cm. If he had attempted to improve it by eg. 5cm in those competitions, he might not have cleared it at all, and the WR would be 2cm smaller. So you could say he could go higher, but this way he is actually more likely to maximise his potential over his lifetime. Slow and steady improvement is better than risky vaults that can lead to not clearing it.

Duplantis could be doing it for the usd100k price money, every time a world record is broken. Some billionaire//sponsor should guarantee him usd100k x the number of cm he breaks the record. 7:02 on the one hand this is a stupid rule, these women _are_ on the same team. But on the other hand, I suppose this rule would preclude some gazillionaire or some sponsoring corporation from just paying the fastest athletes to be on a relay for a few days. But it is an NCAA record, and it’s wild that the NCAA record is faster than the WR. This almost like the INEOS 1:59 challenge with Eliud Kipchoge. There have to be some rules to standardize the events in athletics.

I get this channel is called Running Productions and the fan base is likely biased around that, but to not put Crouser in a minimum of top 5 is bonkers. This man has been crushing it to a degree that puts no one even close and on top of that only gets better and better. He hasn't broken a record once or twice but several times only having himself as an opponent to challenge. Not enough recognition on his accomplishments.

Another thing Duplantis set three World Records last year, this year he only set two.That’s not good enough, he can do better and higher , that’s what you’re saying.So what if he dominated the whole year, he always does.Come on are you being fair? Look at his age, what he has done and don’t forget about it, and don’t use it against him.

Duplantis he has in last two years only beat his own record by just enough each time so he could get extra money from World Athletics and Dimond League meets.

IF I WERE SYDNEY ID ALSO BE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER EVENT FOR PARIS ,I THINK FEMKE WILL WIN THE 400H

Oh please, she's almost a full second ahead of Femke and has superior foot speed. She could give Femke a half second lead and still beat her by 3 tenths of a second. Ridiculous statement.

So beating a two mile world record by 4.5 seconds is better than beating a one mile world record by 5 seconds and beating a marathon world record by half a minute is better than beating a marathon world record by over two minutes. Yay, go men.

Jakob Ingebrigsten's World Record is much more impressive than Faith Kipyegon's World Record, and don't get me wrong, but both of the world records are absolutely out of this world, but he chose Jakob's world record over Faith's World record because of how insanely hard it is to do two consecutive miles under 4 minutes. It is not always about the gap, it can be about the performance. But I do agree with you that Kelvin Kiptum's World record is not as impressive as Tiget Asefa's, in a physiological manner because she did not just smash the world record, she destroyed it, and as Kelvin Kiptum still had one of the best performances of all time, if he were to break the 2 hour barrier, it would be much more impressive. But Jakob was going at an average pace, that most people cannot even get close to in a 100 meter sprint! It was incredibly fast, and Total Running Productions also pointed out how he looked extremely smooth while running. All four performances were very important, and thats really what matters. Why bring in gender?

Total Running Productions is getting better, but there is definitely still a male bias.

Its almost like the mens world record is more prestigious or something. I wonder why that is? Is it that the mens world record is also the fastest time ever ran by a HUMAN in history? Or is it that more men have competed for these titles for a longer period of time giving the titles history and importance. Just a tiny bit of brain power is all thats needed to understand.

There would be less controversy if the list divided into male and female.

Some of these athletes like Bol were ranked pretty high in competing for the European Sportsperson of the Year Award too, but Novak Djokovic won it for the 5th time (rightfully so).
