We need to talk about Twitter

My recent thoughts on the whole twitter and social media situation as relating to freelance furry artists, the TLDR is I just know it's gonna suck for a lot of us artists for a while and hopefully if twitter does go under the splintering that's gonna occur isn't for too long.

Thank you for speaking about this, I agree on your points. Like a small freelance artist myself I have to really push myself to have a presence on art sites and its taken me years to even get to barely 200 followers on Twitter, restarting because clients and artists alike are leaving the platform feels like being hit with a truck signed "all your efforts dont matter lol" Lets hope things get better somehow...

I honestly hope they do get better, trust me i've been at that point fighting for commissions and it can be an actual struggle, so seeing it all crumble just, is concerning, I really do hope it doesn't come to an end though honestly. I'd be sad to see all of us loose what we've gained

Personally as someone who's used Tumblr and Twitter and a bit of Cohost, the latter is pretty similar to the first. It functions as a very similar blogging site but with some more reliable tag tracking. I think its worth posting on but it is a long haul thing that isn't going to be efficient for full time artists like us right now. That's a problem with posting to any new platform in general unfortunately. Apps like postybirb are extremely useful for getting works posted to multiple sites at once without the hassle of dealing with each site's individual posting system. That way as an artist you can focus more on creating works or checking in on those sites for the community. Ultimately with posting art I think its always good to be somewhat spread out, so when these sort of huge disruptions happen there's some established sites for people to follow your works. It still all absolutely sucks and is terrifying as a freelancer though.

This whole situation makes me sad. Not just because we might be losing an important meeting place for our community that's been growing over years, but also because so many are not even willing to look for alternatives, and instead cling desperately to that one place run by someone who clearly does not have our interests as a mostly queer community in mind.

It's honestly so saddening to see and I really do hope Im over reacting but like, it's hard to see it doing anything but collapsing

Thanks foe your speech on this. The best thing I usually do to build a community is interacting with and getting to know with other accounts as if they were a community channel formed on Discord. Plus retweeting and support shout-outs are another best approach.

I honestly don't see much of a problem with Mastodon. It's meant to keep everything modular. Art-centered servers may be more strict on what may be posted, but others may be more lax with the rules. At the end of the day it all depends where you post what. Helps keeping things more organised, letting the artwork pop out more than the shitposts. Personal beef with others should be kept... well... personal, not really on the same account as your commissions tbh

This was a really good video! Was interesting to hear your perspectives of other website options, too. :> We'll just have to wait n' see where Twitter goes from here, yeah... =v=

It really stinks. I worked hard to get my audience to grow and then this happens. I suppose I'll wait to see where this all lands in the end. I wonder if we can class action sue Elon Musk? :P

It actially sucks for people that really sued Twitter to share their creation, they'll prob loose a mot of follower

@@Kosakate Honestly yeah, if it's anything like when I moved from tumblr to twitter, maybe 10-20% of your current audience moves over to a new platform, it's a heavy loss

@@Kaideart it kinda reminds me of vrc few month ago with the security update or even halo when 343 took the lead, it just kills the comunity and the platform
