We need to whip this boat into shape before we do our next long passage down to Curacao. We have a LIST of things to get done and a VERY SHORT time to do them in. So it’s time to get to work. We are currently in Brewers Bay in St. Thomas, USVIs

Ah, the joy of boat maintenance! When I bought my first boat I thought I would be occupied with boring things like sailing, entertaining friends, and such. Then I discovered the good stuff like wiring, engine rebuilds, tensioning the rigging, etc! Congratulations on getting your checklist done, well, at least this day's checklist. The good news is that there will be a new checklist tomorrow! Thank you for another fun video. Fair winds!

You should get a hard sailing dinghy. They tend to last longer and if the motor gives you trouble you can hoist the sail. They are ,also, easier to row. I've seen designs for a nesting dinghy that doesn't take up too much space on board. If you build it yourself it would make a pretty cool episode and wouldn't cost so much.
@BeauAndBrandy
@BeauAndBrandy 3 года назад
we actually started out with a hard dinghy. We didn't have a sail for it, but it rowed like a champ. but for what we want to do and to go, its just not viable. For example, when we were in Saba we had to dinghy about 2 miles upwind in rough waves to get to the dock everyday. now that we are dive certified, we want to be able to get out to the dive spots and such. So we will have to just suck it up and patch this bad boy up here and there 😜

Bau, don't you have a hacksaw? You can unscrew the end and cut off what you don't need. Than drill new holes and attach the end piece and ta-dow you have the perfect size wisker pole.

Sorry, I forgot somethings about Curacao on your last video. If all your paperwork is shipshape, there's a big advantage in stopping at the Seru Boca Marina, at Santa Barbara Curacao. Simply Rob, the manager here arranges everything, including getting cover testers to visit you. This saves heaps of time. But ring and book in ahead. One thing about the Spanish Waters entry - it's strictly daylight only as the channel is complicated and has no markers. I came in using my plotter and Navionics and I was fine. Brilliant video! Totally enthralling and exciting! We sat with our home-brew mead and enjoyed every minute. I'm both a check box and a crosser-outer with my lists (a check is called a Tick in England). Hannah loved your rope-work Brandy - particularly that splicing'lashing you did on the netting - lovely. So great that you repair and reuse stuff (Repair if you Care..) it's the best way to be. Thank you again for being the best thing on YT all week. We haven't got a television so YT is our viewing: you're always our No.1 channel. I tune in like I used to with Cheers or Friends!

Another great video guys. But using a screw driver to tighten the shrouds...oh no... I would have been thrown over board if I had done that when I was training. Always use a spanner across the flats. This ensures even pressure rather than pressure being applied to one spot while using a screw driver and so reducing any chance of cracking the turnbuckle. Good luck with the trip SV Feeling Groovy.

Hello Folks, I hope everything is going well. We have a quick question. We are heading down next year to FL from NY to eventually head to the Bahamas. One of my wife's biggest concern is the heat. How do you guys and others that do not have A/C handle the heat? Being able to sleep at night must be challenging? Any info you have would be a big help. Great job on your videos!!! We will send a few bucks your way.
@gymcoachdon
@gymcoachdon 3 года назад
I don't have a lot of experience, but on our recent charter in the USVI's, it was warm at night, but we both slept great. In the trade winds you get nice airflow through a forward opening hatch when anchored out, and we had 12 volt fans mounted in the berth that helped a lot.
@BeauAndBrandy
@BeauAndBrandy 3 года назад
Hey Guys! Thanks!! I was surprised how well we did without an ac. We have 2 camframo (cageless) fans in our vberth and one in the salon. Also we only have the two hatches that let air in throughout the boat, so a windscoop definitely is a great thing to have. Also do some research into the right bedding/foam you use, it helps with heat. We have found our body temperature tolerance has changed quite a bit and we prefer no A/C. They only time I whine about the heat is when we have to close the hatches for rain at night in the summer. For example as I type I am practically in South America and im a little cool. The day however all I can say is pray for wind and seek shade. BLACK OUT the windows. Shade the cockpit. Basically live like a vampire during the day. LOL Hope that helps :)
